UK Mobile Phone Networks

Cut down version of visually stunning commercial for the mobile phone service provider uses a bubble as a metaphor for a phone call as one man sends a bubble out across the city where it bounces all over the place before arriving at its destination.

27 Mar 2009
This excellent piece has film critic Mark Kermode interviewing Mr Dresden and his sidekick as the duo from Orange discuss their remake of Saving Private Ryan which includes the innovation of issuing World War II soldiers with mobile phones.

Fonecta
"Immigrant"
90s
27 Mar 2009
This Finnish ad introduces us to a self-made man who is looking back on his long and financially successful life. He's come to the conclusion that he must track down distant family members so he can give them his money... if only they knew.

Magners
"Catch"
40s
27 Mar 2010
One of two lovely new commercials for the Irish cider introduces us to a cricket team who've been unbeaten for seventy-five years. The secret of their success? You'll have to watch it if you want to find out. A wonderfully silly idea delivered with considerable aplomb.

Dulux
"Son's Room"
30s
27 Mar 2012
This amusing ad has an elderly couple redecorating a room with a plot in mind. Only at the end do we understand their Machiavellian reasoning and celebrate their success with them. The decision to make all the protagonists fifteen years older than they might have been was a master-stroke.

Navidul Ham
"Explorers"
90s
27 Mar 2013
This wonderfully bonkers and terribly un-pc ad depicts the pitfalls of buying the wrong ham; especially when you're in a foreign land. Two hapless explorers are captured by a tribe of cannibals and led to the village elder who will determine whether or not the ham they're offering up is an adequate substitute.

Coors
"Romance"
60s
27 Mar 2013
This lovely Spanish commercial directed by Miguel Campana has a man recognising that a woman stood in a bar is the one he's been waiting for all his life. Together they can have a life of unparalleled happiness combining compatibility on every level... but how will it work out for them?

Islazul
"Valentine's Day"
55s
27 Mar 2013
This fabulously simple concept shows a series of distinctive-looking men as a reminder to all male partners not to take their loved ones for granted. Instead, it urges, buy her something nice for Valentine's Day because at some point the rose-tinted specs will fall off and she'll see you for what you are. Quite literally.

Samsung
"Charge"
90s
27 Mar 2013
Directed by the formidable Romain Gavras, this has a host of 'armies' joining forces and charging towards a destination unknown to us until the end. It's gorgeous to watch, and the use of Kill It Kid's 'Run' is perfect - but there is a sense that the ad has sacrificed a bit too much product information in the process of achieving such a build-up.

Vodafone
"The Call"
60s
27 Mar 2014
This powerful spot shows fire fighters at the scene of a car crash, fighting a blaze that threatens to get worse before it can be brought under control. As we watch, the wife of the main fireman talks in VO about life with someone whose job is so dangerous, and how you always wait for a call or a text to say everything's okay. It transpires 77% of the emergency services are with Vodafone, and this is a highly memorable way to impress on us that if it's good enough for them, it's good enough for us.

Marks & Spencer
"Adventures in Chocolate"
30s
27 Mar 2015
Another faultless display of startling food photography for M&S. If this campaign has a weakness, it lies within its slavish devotion to the aesthetic - having said that, if any food lends itself to this treatment, it's chocolate. This is a sublime exhibition of skills which really persuades you that the posh store is by far the best option if you want to impress with your Easter Eggs this year.

The Simpsons
"Title Sequence"
60s
27 Mar 2006
What a superb idea. Take one of the most frequently seen animated sequences of all time and remake it using live footage. The result will be recognisable to anyone who loves the show... but just how much bigger is Bart when he skateboards across the parked car?

K-Swiss
"Spin"
30s
27 Mar 2006
Various attractive youthful types strut their stuff with 'spinning' appearing to be the motif as they variously turn on the spot, bounce up and down and so forth. However cool the shoes may look the fact that they are available at JD Sports undermines everything. Just kidding.

Reveal
"Daniella Westbrook"
10s
27 Mar 2006
If you have to make commercials for crappy gossip magazines and, let's face it, an alarming number of agencies do, then you might as well send up the whole genre as Clemmow Hornby Inge do here with a simply marvellous animated film for Reveal magazine.

ITV Play
"Getting Ready"
30s
27 Mar 2006
People are shown getting ready for ITV's new proposition... ITV Play... which will exploit the interactive dimension of digital television to enable viewers to take part in a variety of different games with prizes attached. Neatly composed collage.

Homebase
"Swimming Pool"
30s
27 Mar 2009
Another unlikely location is used to demonstrate that Homebase can make "anywhere a home for less". This time comedian Dave Gorman does the talking as a team build a kitchen in a vacant swimming pool.

Stella 4%
"Dial Hard"
3 mins 50s
27 Mar 2009
An affectionate spoof of French films from the 1960s has a Łber-cool Frenchman showing how you deal with a dominant woman. The protagonist manages to turn the tables on Simone as she attempts to secure his unbending obedience.

Morrisons
"Freddie"
60s
27 Mar 2011
Andrew 'Freddie' Flintoff proves a charming and adept performer in this ad for yellow supermarket but the ad is stolen by a magical moment from two of the children. The supermarkets seem to be trying to gauge the mood of the nation before getting carried away by the Royal Wedding.

MTV Anti-AIDS
"Changing Partners"
60s
27 Mar 2012
The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face is an appropriate musical backdrop as a couple wake from a sexual tryst to glimpses of different characters from their intimate family trees who don't look quite as sweet as the person they chose to take to bed.

Aldi
"Pixies"
20s
27 Mar 2012
Another charming performance in this winning series has the little girl from a previous ad trying to pin the blame for her malfeasance on to the fairies. If we were being really harsh, we'd say it's slightly undermined by the fact that she visibly checks the script with a glance at one point but that's only because our expectations for this campaign are now sky high.

Aldi
"Nice Buns"
20s
27 Mar 2012
There's a bit of unexpected homoerotic banter in the latest ad in this excellent series. As one fellow explains that he and his companion enjoy Aldi's hot cross buns as much as they enjoy those available from Marks & Spencer, his pal makes a complimentary remark about his "buns".

Alton Towers
"Nemesis Sub Terra"
30s
27 Mar 2012
A marble gets away from two girls playing in a semi-animated fantasy world and falls through a grate. There it encounters a grimy underground world representative of the terror felt by those who take a ride on Nemesis Sub Terra at the advertised theme park.

Orange
"Phone Fund"
40s
27 Mar 2012
What we really like about this commercial is the way they eschewed a slice of time technique in favour of asking the actors to sit as still as possible. The flaw of this approach is manifest but makes it charming rather than impressive and, let's face it, for a lot less money.

Samsung Televisions
"King of TV City"
90s
27 Mar 2013
The protagonist in this commercial for a Samsung demonstrates an extraordinary mastery of his surroundings. With a mere sweep of his hand he's able to divert a herd of charging bison before similarly stopping a dinosaur in its tracks. It all translates to a new way of controlling your television set.

Healthier Scotland
"Second Hand Smoke"
40s
27 Mar 2014
This film out of Scotland urges parents who smoke to make sure that they're not inadvertently filling their houses with harmful chemicals even when they're doing their best to avoid smoking near their children. It's a powerful message... not least because of the subtext - if the contents of the smoke are this harmful when breathed in second-hand, what the hell are they doing to someone who deliberately inhales them?

Marks & Spencer
"Adventures in Berries"
10s
27 Mar 2015
Ten seconds isn't long to create an appetising film for hot cross buns but MichaŽl Roulier and Philippe Lhomme have delivered with aplomb. Starting with fruit and ending with the completed bun, this manages to give a sense of a lovingly made delight that looks better - in fairness - than any currant-infused seasonal treat you're liable to eat this week.
