"I want to get cancer because my mum had it," says one of the people in this spot for the Irish Cancer Society. She's not alone - everyone else in the ad wants to get it too. But not in the way it initially sounds... because as we quickly suspect, it's revealed they want to get it back for the pain it's caused in their lives. Controversial, yes, but the concept certainly gets your attention... and that's the name of the game.

This ad for the International Woolmark Prize features director Issac Lock trying to create a 'three-hour live art immersive experience' celebrating merino wool, the overlooked 'foundation of our civilisation'. The event is beset with problems - budget cuts being less of an issue than nobody understanding the creative vision of the project. It's all a mockumentary, of course, and hugely entertaining to watch the 'creative process' in action.

This ad featuring fashion stylist Martha Ward is surprisingly un-stylish. A model exclaims "Martha, why don't I wear what you're wearing? We could be twins!" in manner supposed to suggest Seven Seas supplements keep Martha in such good nick she could be mistaken for someone a lot younger... but the lack of enthusiasm behind the remark makes it feel somewhat insincere.

A diverse cast describe what the holiday season means to them, from bringing friends and family together to a karaoke session with mum. Director Justin Hackney puts his subjects at ease and lets their personalities shine through.

At a time of year when many of us are focused on our appearance, Reebok are bringing back their 'Be More Human' campaign, which carries the message that being physical unlocks the best version of yourself. A series of cinematic ads get the point across, with 'Hands' focusing on the physical changes which accompany the mental.

"Food Dancing (Extended)"

This extended version of the new Sainsbury's 'Food Dancing' campaign features some interesting additions, including dance instructions and a colourful 80's rap video-style segment. Despite the campaign causing health and safety concerns in some quarters (dancing with sharp knives or flinging around tea-towels near open flames... maybe they have a point), this extended version is an effective promo for MysDiggi's specially-created song.

Gorillaz explored environmentalism in 2010’s ‘Plastic Beach’. Now they’ve got President Trump in their sights. Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett’s animated posse are joined by London artist Benjamin Clementine as they pay ‘tribute’ to cold, hard cash. The lyrics are laden with references to wealth and protecting one’s interests - whatever the cost.

They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. In that case, Under Armour should be very flattered by this Chinese Adidas commercial. The ad riffs on Under Armour’s sublime ‘Rule Yourself’ ad from 2015. Yet there's more to it than that; it also challenges notions about Chinese conformity.

That's the pressing issue in this ad for Mini, showcasing five different models aimed at young, outdoorsy people who embrace adventure like the rest of us would embrace a hot water bottle on a cold night. If you like rock climbing, surfing, ping pong (yes), and being uber-fashionable while you do it all, this is the car for you.

This short film follows a band as they travel to and prepare for a gig. But this is a band we - the population in general - would not expect to exist. Because of our prejudices, we tend to assume folk with learning disabilities and differences such as autism aren't capable of coming together in this way. 'We Rise' challenges this assumption with energy, skill, and consummate grace.

The latest is ‘Ghost Recon: Wildlands’, and this live-action ad directed by John McTiernan sets the scene with some feline help. While three hardmen play cards, a cat notices a red dot dancing around the room - which doesn't bode well for these three gents.

This energetic spot from Subaru taps into the trend for rapid-fire editing popular in car ads at the moment. A tight 30" is just the right amount of time to show off the vehicle and create a sense of adventure, presenting 'the few who dare to keep moving' (teachers, inventors, scholars, artists) while the voiceover tells us to 'never sit still'.

Harveys plonk “extra savings” on top of their existing winter discounts. We’re shown three sofas worthy of having their prices slashed while the VO emphasises each saving with terminal enthusiasm. Still, at least the retailer’s recent ads featuring mischievous customers angling for a new sofa are fresh in the memory.

There's the germ of an idea in this ad for Herbal Essences' 'Daily Detox' collection - the animated illustrations of hair stresses (pollution, hairspray, sweat) which add a layer to the run of the mill script. Sadly things quickly fall back on cliché, with the glossy swishes, hair-smelling, and random dancing shots typical of shampoo advertising everywhere.

Some Channel 4 viewers will have been caught off-guard while watching ‘A New Life in the Sun’ on Wednesday afternoon. After all, it’s not every day you see a live colonoscopy take place. Eager to remind audiences how the charity is tackling the disease in real-time, we’re shown how a potentially cancerous bowel polyp is removed.

This ad for Holland's largest shopping centre - Hoog Catharijne - is about as stylish as it gets: it's also a huge amount of fun. Against a bouncy soundtrack and colourful pastel backgrounds, actors jump, dance, and play while showing off some of the products available in the centre's 160+ stores. There are also some lovely bits of quirky stop motion work added in for good measure.

A woman hitting the treadmill and a man enjoying some light reading are joined by hip hop artist Michael Ellison and and cellist Edgar Moreau respectively. Skilful transitions and lighting convey how music fans can enjoy immersive sound with the advertised audio format.

This surreal film by Oscar Hudson is 'about staying indoors'. It explores the Japanese phenomenon of hikikomori - young people so overwhelmed by life that they retreat to their bedrooms for years at a time. All the effects were done practically in camera, with the production team building eighteen almost identical rooms and props in multiple sizes.

North London Waste Authority
"A Message From The Netherlands"

This funny ad for the North London Waste Authority features a hapless young man explaining how he can't buy decent trainers since the Netherlands ran out of plastic. Instead he has to wear wooden clogs... which get him soundly rebuffed by a potential date at the bar. If only people had recycled more - then at least he could get knocked back with cool shoes on.

This trail for the programme is skilfully animated, getting its point across with a cut paper effect and jagged graphics which sync up effectively with the soundtrack.

'Flying Without Wings' accompanies shots of this year's batch of celebrities flying over a snowy landscape, with appropriately transcendent expressions as they perform improbable acrobatic feats.

This slick ad for Virgin Media Ireland takes us through a technological graveyard where obsolete TV sets go to die. Cleverly chosen film clips create an eerie atmosphere to show that this technology's era has passed... while a mysterious red cable snakes its way through the carcasses. The 'way of the future' turns out to be a huge pulsing orb depicting the new era of TV on Virgin Media. Intriguing stuff.

This is an interesting approach to car safety from New Zealand. While we watch a young man endure physiotherapy after a traffic collision, the older-sounding narrator describes how the incident occurred. Turns out the young man was at fault and suffered the worst. Is he bitter? No - he’s thankful his life was saved by the narrator travelling at a safe speed.

Something interesting always happens when an agency like W+K gets into bed with a client like Sainsbury's and so it proves with the agency's début TV work for its big new client. Orange Supermarket has been placed at the forefront of a new movement called #fooddancing by an ad with an earwormy soundtrack from MysDiggi combined with a montage that's been made to look as though it's been clandestinely filmed in our actual kitchens.
