KFC
"Removal Van"
30s
27 Mar 2017
This KFC ad reminds us that age doesn't guarantee wisdom. Jim and John are travelling along a country road when the latter tells the former not to risk the tight squeeze ahead. Boss knows best, of course, and it results in their own removal van being, well, removed. So kind of the roadside recovery truck to bring some KFC for the pair, eh?

Direct Line
"Onward Journey"
30s
24 Mar 2017
The last thing Judith and Keith need after a long flight is a nasty bump... but alas, that's what exactly what happens travelling home from the airport. Enter Winston Wolfe and Tony the taxi driver to ease their post-holiday blues. The insurer challenges motorists to find a better service elsewhere - as Harvey Keitel's character might say: "Lotsa luck, ladies and gentlemen."

Suzuki Vitara
"Happiest Test Drive"
30s
24 Mar 2017
Despite 'surprising' plenty of Suzuki customers already, Ant and Dec's enthusiasm shows no sign of waning. Here they take Craig on the "happiest test drive" ever, where Ant manages to clear a traffic jam through sheer force of personality. Suzuki dealerships across the land will be wondering how they can perk up their own test drives. Novelty horns, perhaps?

Apple iPad
"Tweets"
50s
24 Mar 2017
A trio of commercials for the Apple iPad takes a leaf out of Lidl's book by presenting challenges issued on social media and then debunking them. In each case, the ad seeks to demonstrate that the tablet is more powerful and business-like than you imagined but - this being Apple - it's all presented in the smarty-pants tone they favour.

HSBC
"Swimmer"
60s
27 Mar 2017
A heart-warming tale of parental devotion is used to illustrate the support offered by HSBC when you need a mortgage in a hurry. The protagonists are a father and daughter who rise early each morning so the former can get the latter to the local swimming pool for her daily training session. It appears to be an eye-wateringly exhausting regime but they are each dedicated to it and they plough on despite the tiredness.

Ford EcoSport
"Perfectly Sized For City Life"
30s
26 Mar 2017
To illustrate how the advertised car is the perfect size for the city, this neat commercial focuses on some of the things that aren't. An outsized chandelier and an enormous garden statue demonstrate the perils of making the wrong choice before more prosaic comparisons are drawn. Historically, cars with these properties have been aimed at women but we assume Ford were keen to show this vehicle is big enough for a male driver.

B & Q
"New Brothers"
60s
23 Mar 2017
B & Q's spin-the-bottle approach to appointing advertising agencies has made Leo Burnett the latest custodian and this film is the first TV work this new relationship has produced. It's a modern take on sibling rivalry as two boys roughly the same age are thrown together by the coming together of their parents.

Nationwide
"Mother's Day"
2 mins
26 Mar 2017
Th latest instalment in VCCP's campaign for Nationwide featuring young poets is a really moving piece of work. Filmed just twenty-four hours before it was broadcast, it has Laurie Ogden articulating the feelings of Gavin - a young man from Belfast - in a specially composed poem for mothers day.

Sixt
"The Cult"
30s
26 Mar 2017
There's a very strong idea behind this irreverent commercial for car rental company Sixt and it grabs your attention with both hands before nutting you in the face with it. A funny script from Grey London gave the directorial team an awful lot to work with and they largely deliver: Keith and his new wife are on the money but mum and dad are a tad stilted.

Leroy Merlin
"Life's Adventure"
1 min 51s
23 Mar 2017
We're going to forgive this its talkative voiceover explaining every little thing because it can't have been included on the broadcast commercial as it was made for the French market. Besides, the rest of it is really rather good. A couple sets sail through adult life when they purchase a cliff-side house and their journey is rendered into an impressive metaphor through some convincing VFX which redefines the notion of a house boat.

Nissan Micra
"Partners in Crime"
30s
23 Mar 2017
Nissan have decided to appeal to the slightly niche target audience of those shopping for a new getaway vehicle. A young couple are shown stealing a suitcase and using the Micra to escape via a very scenic desert, stopping only for a quick posing break. The car will be an "accomplice" for those who choose to drive it... though more likely an accomplice on trips to the supermarket rather than dramatic car chases.

Lidl
"Daffodils"
20s
24 Mar 2017
Another mysterious challenge which looks as though it was issued on social media (but almost certainly wasn't) is flatly contradicted by a documentary-style commercial. This time daffodils are in the spotlight because 'Samantha' doesn't think Lidl's look as though they'll last longer than a couple of days. Au contraire, you fictional mischief-maker... they'll last way longer than that.

Aldi
"Mothering Sunday"
20s
24 Mar 2017
According to this ad for Aldi, the average mum only gets seventeen minutes to herself each day. So, one way of demonstrating your appreciation on Mother's Day is to give her a couple of hours of peace and quiet... as well as a hand-finished card, a glass of wine, and a slice or two of roast beef.

Subaru
"Bobsleigh"
1 min 58s
24 Mar 2017
Bobsleigh purists may take umbrage, but a Subaru Impreza proves to be more than a match for the St Mortiz-Celerina track. Dark Energy's Adam Kaleta captures some impressive footage as the advertised vehicle slams its way downhill - even defying gravity at stages. And we thought driving after an overnight frost was dicey...

Virgin Media
"Non-Stop Entertainment"
90s
23 Mar 2017
Sometimes more is more, and Virgin Media prove it with this full-throttle commercial. A stampede of cinematic archetypes race against one another in a high-tech tunnel; Supermen, cowgirls, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are all along for the ride. We don’t fancy the Prohibition gangsters’ chances, though - they’ve got a right Muppet at the wheel.

Tesco
"Mum's Day Out"
50s
24 Mar 2017
Scott’s a good lad, isn’t he? With Mum relieved of her Tesco checkout duties, he treats her to a surprise day out. It’s a rather eclectic itinerary: massages, pottery, and even a trip to the local driving range. The supermarket reminds us that spending time with our mums is the most important thing… though a bottle of Prosecco and chocolates can't hurt, either.

Barclays
"Deposit"
30s
23 Mar 2017
Barclays once again retreat to go forward with another well-shot ad. This woman moves backwards while describing her fears about her housing prospects. Fortunately, the advertised bank offers her a Family Springboard Mortgage, using her (willing) parents’ savings as the deposit. The device cleverly ensures we pay attention to the proposition.

Microsoft
"Bryson DeChambeau"
30s
23 Mar 2017
PGA Tour pro Bryson DeChambeau explains how the Microsoft Cloud allows him to dissect every shot and keep his swing in check. As technology plays a greater role in the game, should caddies be worried their expertise will soon replaced by data nuggets and augmented reality? At any rate, we doubt this will capture anyone's imagination.

Marks & Spencer
"Mother's Day"
10s
22 Mar 2017
10" is all Marks and Spencer need to demonstrate the quality of their Mother's Day flowers. While the cheap and cheerful approach may work for their rivals, M&S showcase their bouquets with unerring sophistication. So if you want to treat your mum with a touch of style on March 26th, you know where to go.

moneysupermarket.com
"Skeletor"
60s
23 Mar 2017
Skeletor saved with moneysupermarket.com, and now he feels epic. So epic, in fact, that he's ready to renounce a life of universe-conquering and dance through the streets to Irene Cara's 'Fame'. The villain quickly wins the town over with his hip-thrusting moves... which we can't quite imagine Frank Langella busting out.

High Contrast
"Questions (ft. Boy Matthews)"
3 mins 15s
23 Mar 2017
They say you should always put your smartphone to one side at bedtime. Give the brain a chance to switch off. Well, someone forgot to tell this young man. This hyperactive promo for High Contrast’s ‘Questions’ shows what happens when desire refuses to rest. Starting with his dream woman, the film dives deeper and deeper into the protagonist’s subconscious.

Joe Goddard
"Home"
4 mins 56s
23 Mar 2017
Hot Chip's Joe Goddard pays tribute to those hazy cab rides home with his latest solo effort. This clubber's all tuckered out after pulling an all-nighter... but the party's only just begun. His imagination (possibly chemically-enhanced) takes flight as early morning London morphs into a Technicolour discotheque with an animated Goddard on the decks.

The FA
"Casey Stoney"
30s
23 Mar 2017
Footballer Casey Stoney movingly discusses the sexism she's faced throughout her career in this inspiring spot for the FA. It's heartening to hear that women's football is gaining recognition and respect and that the FA have made a commitment to double the number of female players by 2020. But with an insane disparity in wages - a top female player earns less in a year than a top male player earns in a day - there's still along way to go.

The FA
"James Blackwell"
30s
23 Mar 2017
As Gareth Southgate becomes the latest man tasked with bringing glory to English football, the FA signal a belief that bringing more players into the game is just as important as anything achieved by the national team. This 30" profile of England midfielder James Blackwell shines a light on the body’s support of cerebral palsy football. It's a support which has allowed Blackwell to be defined by his talent, rather than his disability.

Lipton Tea
"Keala Kennelly"
60s
23 Mar 2017
With all the dramatic and hard-hitting sports-based ads around, it's nice to know that sometimes even the athletically gifted enjoy a cup of tea and a sit down. The connection between surfer Keala Kennelly throwing herself into treacherous waves and caffeinated beverages may be tenuous, but this beautifully-shot film feels inspiring nonetheless.
