The era of having to pretend to like terrible Christmas presents is over. Put down the socks, Auntie June: this year you can gift your family virtual reality headsets to whisk them away from stilted get-togethers, or webcams and smartwatches to enhance their future adventures. They're probably all extra fireproof by now, too.

This film is a compilation of some of the bloopers and outtakes from Samsung's campaign around the Olympics this summer. Jack Whitehall is at his funniest unscripted, trying - and failing - to learn to behave like an Olympic athlete. Particular highlights include the wee man annoying Bradley Wiggins. No swans were harmed in the making of this ad... we hope.

Another of the amusing retreads of familiar ads which appeared in a single ad break during Channel 4's 'The Last Leg'. This time, one of Jack Whitehall's amusing examinations of paralympic sport is given an extra layer as three signers describe what's going on for those who can't hear the words... adding their own play-acting into the bargain.

Jack Whitehall again confirms he's, erm, a Jack of all sports and master of none in the latest Samsung commercial celebrating the Paralympics. This time, the comedian joins Natasha Baker and Lee Pearson for a dressage tutorial. Despite looking the part and displaying some equine reversing skills, it's safe to say Whitehall is unlikely to be picking up any medals.

Having tested the patience of Team GB's Olympic heroes earlier this summer, Jack Whitehall now joins Susie Rodgers and Ellie Simmonds at poolside ahead of the Paralympic Games. The duo prove to be more than a match for Whitehall as he questions why only he's compelled to sweat on the exercise bike, while his efforts in the water are more sink than swim.

Samsung and Leo Burnett are to be applauded for an ambitious idea even if it does err on the side of corniness. It's racked up a huge number of online viewings so it must be doing something right but you don't have to be a cynic to feel uneasy at a purified vision of the world being promoted by a corporation during a year that's bound to go down as one of the most divisive in all human history.

"Jack Tries Boxing"

Round three of Jack Whitehall's Olympic trials for Samsung appropriately sees the comedian enter the boxing ring with Team Ireland's Katie Taylor and Joe Ward. Chivalry doesn't get Whitehall very far as the comedian feels the full force of a Taylor onslaught before 'landing' a glove of his own. While the advertised Galaxy S7 Edge isn't as fortified as Whitehall's midriff, it's still got enough in defence to sway smartphone buyers.

Samsung
"Jack Tries Rowing"
90s
26 Jul 2016
Jack Whitehall shows he's without a paddle when it comes to rowing... or recognising five-time Olympic medallists. After narrowly negotiating a conversation with Sir Steve Redgrave and fellow Olympic champion Helen Glover, it doesn't take long for Whitehall's stint as coxswain to result in a, erm, career-ending injury. Another amusing execution from the brand, and a neat way of communicating their tech's water-resistant credentials.

Those who enjoyed Jack Whitehall's tragicomic attempts to mix it with the England rugby union team last year won't be surprised to learn the comedian has opted for alternative pursuits. In a new series of films by Samsung ahead of Rio 2016, Whitehall now throws himself into various Olympic disciplines - and this sterling ad set in the velodrome sees him come face-to-face with Sir Bradley Wiggins.

South Sudan's Olympic bow inspires this rousing Samsung commercial shot by Academy Films's Martin de Thurah. As 400-metre runner Margret Rumat Rumat Hassan prepares to hit the track in Rio de Janeiro, a little girl's gentle encouragement becomes the opening note for a nationwide chant of support back home.

"The Food Blogger"

This ad emphasises the interactive qualities of the new Samsung tablet as we follow food blogger Jack Monroe through their food shop. The tablet plays a key role in each element of preparing the meal, from ticking off ingredients on a list to receiving emoji-based messages of support when sharing pictures of some particularly aesthetically pleasing peppers.

1st Avenue Machine's Asif Mian and Bob Partington direct this clever historical romp through Samsung's product past, starting with the days when a mobile phone smaller than a person's head was the stuff of a mad man's dreams. Like Russian dolls, each gadget and gizmo hides the smaller, more refined leap in technology within.

If you think this style of advertising has been done to death then think again... Biscuit's Chris Riggert is here to prove there's plenty of life in it yet. His beautiful representation of the odyssey towards Olympic greatness features battles with self-doubt evolving into something more hopeful in a fashion that puts you on the edge of your seat.

While on holiday, a man saves a beached dolphin; and his wife films the moment it spurts water into his face through its blowhole. She christens him 'the dolphin whisperer' and back at the resort the clip gets passed from Samsung phone to Samsung phone with consummate ease. This speedy groundswell of interest sends it viral, creating memes everywhere and making our chap an internet hero.

"Accidents"

This lovely ad for Samsung reminds us of the Currys PC World commercial where a dog is framed for a crime it didn't commit in the name of its owner getting a new laptop. The gag is multiplied here and it's just as amusing. This lot seem strangely relaxed about potential threats to their TV sets. In fact, they try their best to steer them towards their telly boxes.

Samsung
"The Master Of Payments"

23 Nov 2015
Well, Samsung settles it - even warriors with mystical powers need to do a weekly shop. This fun commercial depicts a master pushing his apprentice to the limit by filling his trolley to the brim, but great evil then strikes in the form of his card being rejected at the till. Luckily, the clued-up pupil simply uses the Samsung Pay app to restore the balance... though it doesn't look to do much for his promotion prospects.

"School of Rugby"

Jack Whitehall must be enjoying the restorative effects of an ice bath as it's up to England's current crop of players to continue Samsung's 'School of Rugby' campaign. Maintaining the irreverent tone of the comedian's ads, these online bumpers see the likes of Joe Launchbury and George Ford firm up our knowledge of the sport. Potentially invaluable snippets for those still coming to grips with the sport as the World Cup reaches its climax.

"How Does That Sound?"

4 Oct 2015
It's not often an ad for white goods has so little to say, but the almost total silence in this spot for the Samsung Ecobubble™ washing machine is used to great effect. That's because its key feature is its unbelievably quiet spin cycle. To demonstrate this, the machine is set up in a white space with thirty microphones being assembled around it - a simple but very strongly executed conceit.

"Bumpers"

3 Sep 2015
This series of bumpers advertising Samsung's sponsorship of programming on Channel 4 is a bit perplexing. Plainly they are revealing there's some interesting technology in their latest range of washing machines but there isn't enough here to indicate what the touch panel is for or where a gardening option fits in.

4 Aug 2015
A new set of bumpers for Channel 4's Better Living programming showcase Samsung's range of feature-laden appliances. The first effort - a fun play on new show, "The Three Day Nanny" - is promising, but the rest settle for gentle domestic goings-on, such as a dad sneaking a potato wedge out of the oven. The brand will be content with their starring role though.

"Wireless Audio 360° Speaker"

16 Jul 2015
This spot for Samsung's innovative new 360° speaker is pretty nifty. Arresting imagery suggests the all-round sound it provides wherever you are in a room, along with the array of different tonal and textural qualities of the audio itself. The choice of bass-y electronic track feels like a challenge: if you think it sounds this good on your tellybox, wait till you hear it in person.

Samsung
"Cycling"

14 Jul 2015
Cycling enthusiasts will love this stunning film for Samsung which demonstrates there's more than one way to be a winner. Meticulous preparation and determined riding from an athlete armed to the teeth with Samsung technology appears to be a recipe for the man who'll cross the line first wearing a jersey in the colour of his choice. But there's more to this story than that.

An ode to the surfing community as well as the sport itself, this gripping film from Samsung dives head first into what makes a surfer. As it turns out, it takes more than the efforts of the individual. Through a montage of both professional and amateur surfers alike, we're given a tactile insight into the rituals and traits of the sport.

According to this commercial, updating your domestic appliances will leave you with significantly more time to spend with your loved ones and this idea is presented in an attractive before and after sequence. Mind you, those dinky little robot vacuums are amusing but you try getting stubborn cat fur out of the carpet with one.

Real-life couple Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard bring likeable chemistry to this otherwise safe offering from Samsung. With a dinner party looming, the two go about preparing their home with Samsung's range of home appliances. It doesn't matter that the guests cancel in the end; Kristen didn't really like them anyway. Let's hope they weren't watching - awkward alert.
