Car manufacturers love telling us to seize the day... so now Seat go one further, insisting: “This is the moment to live any moment”. At least this extended cut lets the idea gather momentum. There are some neat transition shots as the protagonist shifts through various scenarios … though perhaps he should lock the bedroom door next time.

Mum promises her small boy an ice cream when they next stop off for fuel in this ad for Seat Leon. He's a cute little tyke, and his face lights up at the prospect. However, he (naturally) hasn't take into account the fact that the car is so economic to run that it's an eternity before they pull into a petrol station. His grumpy face is a picture as he shows the car what he thinks of it.

Such a shame this isn't better - the idea is, in itself, lovely. A father helps his young son navigate a straight line when the child's natural inclination is to veer to the left, and then we discover that dad has in fact passed his wonkiness gene on because he has his own tendency to veer... which the car automatically corrects. If the ending hadn't been so twee we'd have praised this fulsomely.

Son comes home early in the morning after a night shagging in the car, only to be confronted by dad as he gets in. Dad is obviously going through his mid-life crisis as it's only 6.15am and he's in cycling gear. Son pretends he's also ready for the trip and, despite obvious scepticism, dad takes him along for the ride. Clearly, we're supposed to notice that this car suits both of these contrasting characters equally well but we had to try quite hard to realise this.

Two couples are dining together when one of the women stalks off. One of the men throws his car keys to her boyfriend, and off he goes to catch up with her taxi and persuade her to get in beside him. Then they drive past the generous friend who is now struggling to get a cab and ends up taking the bus with his blank lady. How mean.

A little boy plays with his toy rocket until dad shows up in a new car. As is often the case, beloved toys are callously dumped to make way for the new; and on a drive to show off said car the boy lobs his rocket out of the window, showing a lack of environmental awareness we can only hope will provoke a violent response from dad.

"German Technology, Spanish Passion"

Although this commercial exploits national stereotypes, it is nonetheless effective in drawing our attention to the idea that the new Seat Leon Cupra combines German technologically know-how with Spanish passion. The Spanish protagonist is so passionate, she seems mad as hell.

"Who Owns Who?"

20 Apr 2007
A man contemplates the nature of car ownership as we see him bestowing love on his new Seat Leon. He wonders who owns who as he realises his life revolves around his automobile. He may be better off catching the bus rather than following this course of spiralling madness.
