UK Price Comparison Web Sites

moneysupermarket.com have introduced a new character into their well-choreographed mix as a gaffer turns up to urge the construction workers back to their building site. In keeping with the brand's motif, she's on the larger side and we can't help worrying that some will feel they're being invited to laugh at her because of it.

One would be forgiven for thinking moneysupermarket.com's dance-off between builder Colin and shorts 'n' tie strutter Dave earlier this year marked the peak of this campaign's drive for epicness. As this latest outing shows, the price comparison site believes there's plenty of mileage left in shaking booty and misappropriating building site equipment.

Peter Dickson's epic voice will forever be associated with The X Factor and he's the perfect choice to ramp up the dance -off orchestrated by Noam Murro for moneysupermarket.com. The unlikely shapes thrown by the competitive duo continue to entertain and you can't argue that Mother have got their money's worth from this idea.

Now that Simon Cowell's other ratings juggernaut The X Factor has lost its, well, X factor, an advertising slot during Britain's Got Talent has becomes our island nation's equivalent of a Super Bowl spot. Keen to cash in on the show's returning viewership, moneysupermarket.com bring together their gyrating trinity of dancers - Dave, Colin, and Gary - for a dance-off which pushes the stitching on Dave's denim shorts to the limit.

A little bit of Gary goes a long way as this fun 10 ad for Money Supermarket demonstrates. The bodyguard gives us a brief reminder of his body-popping prowess to celebrate his hefty savings, while Michael Buerk's matter of fact VO once again lends the work a degree of gravitas that only enhances the silliness.

moneysupermarket.com's ongoing campaign seems to grow in stature with each execution and the latest instalment adds to the sense that this advertising will run and run. It must now be starting to compete with the meerkats in terms of awareness in this sector and that's quite an accolade. They aren't altering the formula much but the scale seems to edge up each time.

We've had Dave's Epic Strut... now here's Colin's Epic Booty Shake. What could have been an example of the law of diminishing returns is in fact a triumph as a burly builder embraces his inner pole dancer and uses the construction site he's working on as his own personal stage. If only his fellow builders had shoved twenties down his bum cleavage.

This campaign has delivered some memorable ads, but this has to be the best yet for sheer eyeball-grabbing, attention-seeking mischief. A guy gets out of his car and strides down the street with a purposeful twinkle last sported by John Travolta in Saturday Night Fever. What's he looking so pleased about? He's saved money with the site in question. But that's not all...

Happy chap Graham has saved so much dosh with the price comparison site that he feels like he's driving around on an elephant. The pachyderm sashays along with a certain swagger as people gaze up admiringly and a small boy with a rich baritone tells 'Gram' just how moneysupermarket he is. It lacks the panache of 'Phil' and his invisible car, but it certainly gets your attention.

This ambitious spot for the comparison site takes the campaign to a whole new level. Technically brilliant, it stops you in your tracks as you watch nonentity Phil imagining he's a blinged-up sex god doing donuts in a gas-guzzler and surrounded by laydeez. The fact there is no car is inspired: to all intents and purposes it's as real as Snoop Dog Lion who pops up at the end to endorse the coolness of being "so moneysupermarket".

The campaign's smoothie tells "Alice" to "hang on a minute" - if she just takes five minutes of her time to compare prices on moneysupermarket.com, she could save cash and feel as good as "that kid". That kid is a youngster diving into an improbably large cake. She'll feel a bit suffocated, then.

Another ad comparing comparison sites (a perfect example of meta-selling going on here, surely) hits our screens, and the best bit about it is that it's only 10 seconds long. In this instance, ferocious women karate-chop blocks in half to show how efficiently their particular site chops prices - and guess who wins?

"Cheaper than any other leading comparison site" say the words in the blue circle. 'Cheap' being the key word here. This is a budget companion piece to the new ad that aired a couple of weeks ago and it's paltry by comparison - it'd be a bit harsh to describe it as 'pony' in the Cockney sense but it wouldn't be entirely wide of the mark.

This is huge fun, and with the almost total ubiquity of lolcat videos in inboxes around the world, it's no wonder this came up as a concept. What a shame, then, that 02 beat the comparison site to it with their 'Be More Dog' campaign, which just has the edge on this. Nonetheless, it's beautifully done and Bill is perfectly cast.

To soaring power ballad ''Take My Breath Away', chubby Alan saves over 300 and feels so indomitable that he trumps Tom Cruise in Top Gun by roaring off into space. He watches his emotional family wave him goodbye before realising he's got their car keys. Why moneysupermarket.com thinks their customers aspire to be chumps remains mystifying.

More amusing tomfoolery on behalf of the price comparison site. The man behaving like a character from the 1980s action series in previous commercials returns in a new ad which has him eating cake while dressed as an animal. When he discovers a bomb in the cake box, he has to run for it. It's hard to imagine the meeting at which it was decided to film this.

Another helping of 1980s detective show parody on behalf of the price comparison site. Wearing the kind of hairstyle that's contributed to the infamy of that much-maligned decade, Gary continues to look triumphant because of the money he saved by switching insurer via the advertised service.

The latest addition to this series suggesting that saving money by using the advertised service can make anyone feel epic parodies the opening titles of American action series from the 1980s (in particular, Magnum PI because of the music but it uses familiar bits from other series too) to illustrate its claim. A fun nostalgia ride.

These ads are like 30s long episodes of Ricky Gervais's Extras.
