UK Broadband Providers

Continuing their 'Masters of Entertainment' campaign, this ad for the TV bundles included in Virgin Media's V6 box features some cool animation. The 'full on, full throttle, full house bundle' offers the ability to record six shows at once and super-fast fibre broadband, all for £55 a month. The voiceover and music are a bit intense, but they certainly create some excitement about the product.

This slick ad for Virgin Media Ireland takes us through a technological graveyard where obsolete TV sets go to die. Cleverly chosen film clips create an eerie atmosphere to show that this technology's era has passed... while a mysterious red cable snakes its way through the carcasses. The 'way of the future' turns out to be a huge pulsing orb depicting the new era of TV on Virgin Media. Intriguing stuff.

A collection of precocious little scamps are getting a head start in the workplace by taking over at a Virgin Media store for the day. The brilliance here comes from letting the youngsters take the lead and shine on their own merits, their natural weirdness and humour coming to the fore as they charm their potential customers.

This postscript to Virgin Media's recent ad focuses on the way their TV service is easily searchable across multiple platforms, which is pretty important for parents who don't want to be left at the mercy of their children's programming whims. Quirky as she might be, there's only so much Peppa Pig an adult human can watch in one go.

In 1933's Duck Soup, Groucho Marx's character exclaims: "Clear? Huh! Why a four-year-old child could understand this report! Run out and find me a four-year-old child, I can't make head or tail of it." Not much has changed since then according to this cleverly-scripted piece of work for Virgin Media. It's still children we need to unravel certain kinds of complexity and the youngsters in this ad are very much masters of their domain.

9.58 seconds. It's arguably one of the most famous times in the world (sorry Chico Time) thanks to Usain Bolt's imperious efforts at the 2009 World Athletics Championships. As the man primes himself for another surge at glory, Michael Johnson asks, "Do you know what 9.58 seconds feels like?" Thanks to this kinetic piece of work for Virgin Media, we've got plenty of definitions to work from.

Virgin Media Business launch the 2016 edition of their entrepreneurial contest with this purposeful film set in the snowy wilderness. There are no DiCaprio-shredding bears to worry about here, but a selection of business owners (including 2015 winner Jeff Paterson) describe the grit required to survive the harsh realities of starting a new venture. This year's crop will be hoping to join Sir Richard Branson at the summit.

When BBH need a love story, they turn to Sara Dunlop - and who can blame them when she's able to conjure the unlikeliest of romances from thin air? DAVID has reached an age where he looks at the youthful goings-on depicted in a commercial like this and worries about things getting out of control, but he needn't fret... this is a collection of responsible young people exploiting the technology to have some good, clean fun.

Setting aside the ghastly soundtrack, this glimpse of a mother and daughter comparing heroines is really rather sweet. While the youngster admires current England footballer Steph Houghton, mum once longed to be Romanian gymnast Nadia Comăneci (which looks unlikely, unless Mum is quite a bit older than she looks) and the pair then take a look at other great women in history.

Wolves howl, stags lock horns, cowardly ostriches hide under rugs... Virgin Media has, er, doggedly sought out a whole extra bunch of feathered and furry creatures to depict our viewing habits. This time it's sport they're all watching, and the suggestion is that with the broadband provider in question we can enjoy bonding over our favourite team more easily.

Sofa bear indulges in a spot of conducting to compare Virgin Media and Sky's broadband performances. When a bear gestures at you to start playing, you'd better do it. Alas, Sky musician Tobias can't cope with multi-tasking. The Virgin Media trio, however, are far more pleasing to ursine ears thanks to the brand's DOCSIS 3 fibre-optic cables.

Virgin Media's animal kingdom receives another new addition in the form of Steve. As well possessing beautiful plumage, he's also a footie fan, and he has no problem boasting when his team scores. Alas, his colourful display is a little premature on this occasion. Thanks to Virgin Media, however, he'll have plenty more chances to strut with their Sky Sports and BT Sport coverage.

Sofa bear gets all technical on our asses in this spot for Virgin Media; rousing himself from the couch to tell us that Virgin's DOCSIS 3 cables are better and faster than the competition's. Then, info imparted, he sheds his white lab coat and reclines once more to resume watching his programmes. Wouldn't want to be the one prising the remote from those paws.

An epic ad for Netflix on Virgin Media which bravely concentrates on one topic: the return of prison series 'Orange Is The New Black'. Revolving around box-set addict Ally the Owl, it shows her being denied viewing privileges after a transgression in her past catches up and puts her behind bars.

Virgin Media Business has created a competition aimed at budding entrepreneurs who are looking for a platform for their business ideas. Richard Branson tells us that fear is a key component in start-ups as images flash past from close calls in his life. It's moody and atmospheric, although the model of him at the end looks like he's been surgically removed from the prow of a ship.

We need to wait until March 24th to see what this enticing teaser spot for Virgin Media Business represents. Over to you now, Sir Richard.

More anthropomorphism for Virgin Media as dad takes on the literal embodiment of a Navy SEAL while playing a video game. Large, impassive, and totally in the zone, he's enjoying not being dad for a little while... but his peace is shattered when his family returns and he's unable to continue wreaking virtual carnage on the screen.

Usain Bolt's charm has been deployed to excellent effect again in this sixty-second spot for Virgin Media. Poor old Usain - he comes home after a hard nine seconds' work and quite reasonably just wants to kick back with a bit of online gaming. However, he can't - because all the chill-out zones are taken up with creatures glued to their various devices. So he seeks refuge in the attic... only to be chided - by the Night Owl, of all things! - for being noisy. Lovely.

Ally the Night Owl likes to stay up into the wee small hours for "just one more episode". We're introduced to her watching Orange Is the New Black while her chap - a normal human - marvels at her still being glued to the telly. We like this campaign featuring people as various creatures, even if the sight of a man sharing a bed with an owl is frankly a bit weird.

The world has been gifted a new creature: the Sofa Bear. Sporting the same sort of well-upholstered indolence seen in middle-aged men who never quite left their student years behind them, Ed (as he is apparently known), is content to lie in front of the box for days so long as he has plenty to watch - which is the case, because the household he belongs to has Virgin Media. DAVID is bracing himself for the cry 'That's YOU, that is!' from his three eagle-eyed daughters.

The problem with Usain Bolt is he's just too watchable. This lovely ad has him showing off his football skills in his modest suburban home and looking adorably cheeky, according to Mrs DAVID. But while he shoots to different people in different surroundings to demonstrate where you can get Virgin Media, it's hard to take in the message because you're too busy wondering if he is spinning that ball.

This visually arresting viral for Virgin Media has a real flavour of Tango about it. The running commentary, the random situation, the build-up to a denouement you're not quite sure is coming... all these are trademarks of the classic campaign. While you could argue that the spot implies Virgin's bundles may not be very reliable, the fact it's so memorable outweighs this. A few more virals in the same vein would simply serve to impress upon you that these are very big bundles indeed.

A smart move to take David Tennant and Mr B out onto the open road away from the static awkwardness of the studio. This visually arresting spot has Tennant explaining the new, very versatile bundles offered by Virgin Media (though how simple they'll prove to be is another story). Most impressively, Richard Branson manages a full-throated "Whooooooo!" of enthusiasm at the end - a first ever, we imagine.

David Tennant sits in a trio of very different vehicles which act as metaphors for the different types of broadband out there in this cheerfully frenetic ad for Virgin. It's just the right side of information overload and offers an attractive proposition (although it's really irritating that broadband companies resolutely use the lure of a lower price for the first part of the contract).
