This intriguing film for Mitsubishi's Outlander PHEV by Golley Slater and director Bugsy Steel offers an unusual, highly creative take on car advertising tropes. There are loving shots of smooth driving and a visceral soundtrack, yes, but something strange is lurking near the road...

Featuring a centaur, minotaur, mermaid, and a take on Medusa, this ad explores the mythical hybrids living in the twisting landscape the car winds its way through. It takes a couple of watches for the connection to become clear, but the strong, involving visuals hold up to multiple viewings well. The grungy character designs are absorbing - Medusa in particular is just plain cool.

The UK's leading hybrid car ends up 'leading' the hybrid creatures literally - something which could have been bungled by a less astute touch. Compelling work from all involved.

There will come a point in your life where you'll look at yourself and think: I'm not the same person I was five years ago. Which will be a good thing, according to this promo for Mitsubishi Outlander. It's rare to have an ad which celebrates growing up, in a sea of products all geared towards hanging onto youth - or at least creating the illusion of it - for as long as possible.

It's all about the numbers in this visually accomplished ad for the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. In both subtle and obvious ways, the world turns numerical as clouds, lampposts, and even the road itself help to illustrate the car manufacturer's confidence in their figures. Even if the VO doesn't quite meld with the on-screen fantasy, the eye is drawn in a way other car ads often struggle to achieve.

A demonstration that a special effect should never be the whole basis of a commercial. There is nothing meaningful about the fact that the pair who climb into the Mitsubishi become visible so it doesn't matter whether the technique is impressive or not.
