'Fast & Furious 8' - or 'The Fate of the Furious' for Stateside readers - partners with Castrol Edge for this action-packed simulation. Stuntwoman Debbie Evans is challenged by series veteran Michelle Rodriguez to evade tanks and Russian submarines on an icy lake - just your regular Sunday afternoon drive, eh? Good to see the stunt driver take top billing for once.

Halfords sum up the reality of going away for the weekend with your mates in this frenetic ad. The script's staccato barrage carries us along on an exhausting but exhilarating ride, once again smartly implying that a trip to the retailer beforehand ensures we can take spontaneity for granted.

"Darkness"

3 Nov 2016
Things get far too dark for a pair of goths in this sharply-edited short when they realise one of their headlights has died. It succinctly gets across the idea that a pit stop at Halfords should mean only a brief diversion thanks to the store's on-the-spot fitting service, although, in our experience, you might just get sent away with a "computer says no" kind of response from the staff.

Halfords
"Wipers"
10s
2 Nov 2016
Another 10s spot for Halfords, this time featuring a couple on their way to a fancy dress party. Unable to agree on music and unable to drive in silence due to their annoyingly squeaky windscreen wipers, a quick trip to Halfords is requires in order to resolve the issue. Although sadly it also robs us of the chance to witness a cat vs lobster fight.

"Battery"

Halfords subverts expectations with this amusing ad for their on-the-spot fitting service. You expect this chap to be a nightmare - he calls his car 'the beast' - but he's actually a nice young man who apologises for disturbing the neighbours and pops into Halfords to get a new car battery on the way to see his mum. Bless.

"Get Going"

24 Oct 2016
"Going" is the key word in this montage of people taking part in different sports. Quick shots depict several different activities, characters and situations, hoping to emphasise the variety of uses for the featured Tom Tom watch. Although the scenes are short and the pace is fast, the smooth editing ensures that each transition is smooth, preventing the ad from feeling too rushed or becoming confusing.

"For Life's Journeys"

Whether it's a family break or a weather-based impulse, the great British getaway is beautifully encapsulated in this ad for Halfords. After all, who isn't familiar with that sense of there being only a finite window to have fun outdoors? Time is of the essence, and to extract every last ounce of enjoyment from our holiday takes military-level planning. Well, sort of.

Kwik-Fit
"Mr Shah"
30s
25 Apr 2016
Portraying the Kwik-Fit team as heroes riding to the rescue once again proves a worthy conceit in the latest instalment of the new campaign. Mr Shah needed help getting to his wedding on time and he knows who to thank. Once again, any portentousness is offset by understated voice work... though, on this occasion, it's a little indistinct.

Kwik-Fit
"Hamster Rescue"
30s
25 Apr 2016
George & Dragon's opening gambit for Kwik-Fit depicts the chain's mechanics as heroes receiving the gratitude of a little girl whose pet hamster they rescued after it went AWOL inside the family car. It exploits the familiar 'power walk' trope to suggest these personnel mean business but this turns out to be a set-up designed to reveal their warm, human side as they thank the little girl for her lovely letter.

Kwik-Fit
"Christmas"
2 mins 30s
22 Nov 2015
This seasonal helping of festive fun from Kwik-Fit plainly involved fooling young children into thinking they'd encountered the real Santa Claus. The big fella was having a bit of sleigh trouble and had decided to get it fixed at the notoriously fast repairers. Cue entranced children whose parents are clearly in on the stunt. Lovely.

Tom Tom
"King of the Mountain"
1 min 45s
23 Jun 2015
The goat at the centre of this high octane TomTom ad isn't content to stand around on a mountain all day like the rest of his flock. But he's feeling more than a little gruff at his poor video editing facilities. That's where TomTom's new action camera comes in. In an ad that's about pushing it to the limit, the ungulate action ensures maximum fun.

"Freewheeling"

A smiling old chap cycles along a track in the deepest countryside, accompanied by his trusty dog. As he freewheels along, we hear a version of 'Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head' and see him change into younger and younger incarnations of himself because that's how cycling in such a scenic location makes him feel.

Halfords
"Great Summer Offers"
20s
28 May 2015
With summer about to rear its - hopefully bright - head, Halfords want us to know they've got us covered with offers on the usual bikes, tents, and sat navs. Seems like every brand is getting in on the drone-based approach, but this price-driven ad is enlivened by some nice airborne shots of the lush British countryside.

Total Quartz
"Forever Young"
45s
9 Mar 2015
This bonkers ad has a robot hunk that climbs out from under the bonnet of a car and starts demonstrating his superfit athletic skills while women scientists simper and overheat. The production's great and it's rather amusing, although RoboHunk does have a slightly unnerving face partially hidden by metal. What's he doing this for? To show how stunningly effective Total Quartz motor oil is.

"Christmas Bikes"
60s
29 Oct 2014
This lovely ad for Halfords feels really thoughtfully judged. First, it's true that despite the appeal of various games consoles and teccy gizmos that even the youngest children clamour for these days, there's still something fundamentally special about a bike - combining the novelty of freedom and independence with the physical connection of the outdoors

Halfords
"The Bike Whisperer"
3 mins 05s
30 Jun 2014
Canadian comic Tony Law gets into character as The Bike Whisperer in this online video for Halfords. Nonplussed and vaguely apprehensive customers are approached by him as they bring bikes for servicing, come to collect them, or check out the range available. It's gentle and amusing - Law is an excellent choice - but this would be improved by more self-discipline when it comes to running time.

Kwik-Fit
"The Love It Deserves"
20s
25 May 2014
Obviously inspired by the road trip in Little Miss Sunshine (right down to the styling of the little girl as Olive), this pleasant ad reminds us how integral our cars are to our lives, and what a vital role they play. As such, we should treat them with the care and attention they deserve, which they'll enjoy at Kwikfit along with some promotional football-related offer.

"Born to be Wild"

Halford's companion piece to the beardy cycling family has another family, this time taking to the road in their car. To the same gruff, yet softly-spoken VO reciting Born to Be Wild, mum, dad, and their boy and girl all sprout the same straggly facial hair and pass the cyclists with a mellow wave of recognition at fellow existential travellers.

"Halford's Angels"

30 Apr 2014
In this fab new campaign for Halfords, cyclists and bikers alike are urged to get all Easy Rider and see the temperate landscape of Britain as an exotic vista to be conquered. This particular ad focuses on the cycling family, who sprout beards and tatts and studded denim as they head towards Bodmin while a Welsh VO tells us we were "born, born to be wild".

"The Love Your Car Deserves"

It's true, isn't it? We use our cars as a versatile (albeit snug) room in which to perform all sorts of routines as shown in this spot. In fact, it would be fair to say that the car belonging to the DAVID household extends to being a shanty town in its own right. We're not sure how our affection for our vehicles equates to a £30 MOT with Quickfit, but it's nicely observed.

Halfords
"Acupuncture"
30s
24 Oct 2013
Another excellent ad in the current 'favours' campaign. This time a young woman agrees to be an acupuncture guinea pig for the male neighbour who mends her windscreen wipers. They're beautifully cast - he with a vague New Age menace; she with a hapless naïveté - and the shot of her face from under the massage table is inspired.

Halfords
"Brother-in-law"
30s
18 Oct 2013
We all know the type portrayed in this ad - over-hearty, overbearing and over the top. Just the sort you don't want to be in debt to at the Favour Bank. Halford's new campaign has loads of potential for fun while keeping that fundamental core of truth that makes us immediately relate to the proposition.

Halfords
"From Memory"

17 Oct 2013
There's something peculiarly British about the conceit behind the new campaign for Halfords. After all, what other nation's citizens would sooner pay money to get their car fixed than risk the possibility that something might be asked in return by a friend or neighbour? And it strikes a truthy chord... many of us really do prefer the cold anonymity of the business transaction to the unknown price of asking a friend to help. This ad cleverly reminds us of the kind of quagmire we may enter if we choose the latter.

Got a handbasket-sized dog you need to get home in a hurry? Don't worry - your bicycle can be repaired and serviced within 48 hours at Halfords and you and your canine chum can be on your way. Just don't ask us what you're supposed to do in the meantime. Busk, maybe? A cute Yorkie might earn you enough loose change to pay for a new tyre.

"Mid-Race"

This post script to the impressive Tour de Britain commercial boasts that Halfords will build a new bike for you and even check it after six weeks. The depicted cyclist clearly had a great need for one and can't even be bothered to complete all the paperwork as he rejoins the race instead.
