Tesco
"Mum's Day Out"
50s
24 March 2017
UK Supermarkets

Scott’s a good lad, isn’t he? With Mum relieved of her Tesco checkout duties, he treats her to a surprise day out. It’s a rather eclectic itinerary: massages, pottery, and even a trip to the local driving range. The supermarket reminds us that spending time with our mums is the most important thing… though a bottle of Prosecco and chocolates can't hurt, either.

Whatever next? Mumm-Ra struts to Hot Chocolate? Dungeon Master and Venger do the Macarena? What's Cyril Sneer up to these days? Yawn.

Co-op Supermarkets
"Mother's Day"
90s
20 Mar 2017
The Co-op aren’t shy about embracing the past. Since reviving their 1960s logo last year, the supermarket have emphasised traditional values and community spirit - the kind of things you see immortalised in grainy film footage. Such thinking inspires this affectionate Mother’s Day ad as a woman treats mum and the whole family to a filmic trip down memory lane.

Sainsbury's
"Red Noses"
10s
17 Mar 2017
Those who crave variety in their novelty schnozzes are in for a treat this Red Nose Day. To celebrate the biennial charity drive, shoppers can nab one of ten characterful noses from Sainsbury's. Meanwhile, rapper MysDiggi makes a brief cameo as he wonders where his own red nose has gone - always in the last place you look, eh?

Aldi
"Teddy Bear"
30s
15 Mar 2017
A teddy bear has come to life and decided to use his newfound voice to compares cheaper Aldi nappies and wipes to a more expensive brand. Deciding that either brand will do the job, the bear places particularly strong emphasis on his passion for extra sensitive wipes after going through the pain of having batteries... inserted.

Sainsbury's
"Mother"
30s
15 Mar 2017
Sainsbury's Mother's Day ad combines the campaign's black and white home video style shots of families baking together with more carefully constructed shots of food in colour. The contrast allows the colours in the food to really jump out, and the slick editing ties everything together with a great choice of music. We're a bit baffled by the endline though: Was "making for mum... is living well" written by one of these AI programs taking over adland?

Tesco
"The Cheese Fortune Tellers"
30s
14 Mar 2017
This 'Food Love Story' features a passionate cheesemaker who, uh, uses cheese to tell the future. Well, sort of. 'Richie Cheeseman' (as he's known to his friends) is responsible for selecting the young cheeses which will eventually grow up to be Tesco's finest mature cheddars, and we see a little of his process here. Dairy divination at its best.

Farmfoods
"Len Goodman"
30s
12 Mar 2017
Oh Len, where did it all go wrong? From the sweat and sequins of Strictly to the frozen food aisle. The former judge delivers upbeat claims about the amazing properties of frozen veg with the silently screaming eyes of a man reconsidering the career moves which have led him to this point: standing in a fake kitchen, wearing a tuxedo and chef's hat, and proclaiming his love for Farmfoods.

Asda
"Mother's Day Plan"
30s
13 Mar 2017
This amusing ad from Asda features a boy whipping the family into shape for a Mother's Day planned with military precision. Mum gets a lie-in, breakfast in bed at ten sharp, 'loads of flowers', and a chicken dinner - he's got all bases covered. The performances here make the ad: both kids are outstanding.

Aldi
"MiniRoos"
60s
9 Mar 2017
Aldi let us know they're proud to partner with MiniRoos - Australia's biggest football programme for kids - in this inspirational ad. The beat-heavy soundtrack and crisp visual editing come together to capture the energy and tenacity of the kids, who are determined to play against all the odds. No goal, no pitch, no team? No problem.

Tesco
"Magic Soup"
30s
7 Mar 2017
Another warm ad from Tesco's Food Love Stories campaign explores the relationship between a boy and his grandmother through food. The kid might not like carrots or peppers, but the veggies are just the ticket when they're blended up as part of Nana's Magic Soup... complete with a star-shaped cheesy crouton on top.

Tesco
"Cupcakes"
30s
6 Mar 2017
Tesco’s latest Food Love Story sees Alice attempt to sweeten things after a family argument. She regrets what she’s said to her stepmum… but luckily, the teenager is a dab hand when it comes to baking cupcakes. A more serious tone compared to previous instalments, though it’s good to see this campaign depicting different family dynamics.

Aldi
"Washboard"
20s
3 Mar 2017
This ad for Aldi's Super Six healthy eating promotion has double Olympic medallist Jack Laugher doused liberally with water as a lusty voiceover gets distracted by his washboard abs. She managed to recover herself long enough to tell us about the fruit and veg on offer, but another glimpse of Laugher soon sets her off again.

Asda
"World Book Day"
20s
24 Feb 2017
Asda have a wide range of classic characters available in costume form this World Book Day. Time-pressed parents will be pleased to know they can dress their sprog as Harry Potter, Alice in Wonderland, or Paddington Bear from only eleven quid. Makes the tea towel-based school play costumes from David's childhood look a bit shabby in comparison.

Walmart
"The Gift"
60s
27 Feb 2017
One of three Oscar spots created for Walmart, this film by Antoine Fuqua had to include the six items on a provided shopping list. Turning bananas, a scooter, and a baby monitor into a compelling narrative is no mean feat, and this extra-terrestrial film pulls it off with style. We're getting a Stranger Things vibe too, which only enhances the intriguing feel of the ad and makes us want to know more.

Walmart
"Bananas Town"
60s
27 Feb 2017
With a 30" commercial slot during the Oscars carrying a two million dollar price tag this year, brands could be forgiven for playing it safe in terms of content. Retail giant Walmart didn't get the memo, apparently, because they went all-out experimental for a whopping three 60" spots during the ceremony. This film, directed by comedy veterans Seth Rogen and David Goldberg, is the wildest ride of the three.

Sainsbury's
"Bowls"
10s
24 Feb 2017
Sainsbury’s must be sifting through their favourite clips from January’s ‘Food Dancing’ film. Having recently released a Valentine’s Day-themed montage, the supermarket moves on to 10” morsels. This particular cook demonstrates an unorthodox use of crockery... perhaps think twice about accepting a bowl of soup served up here.

Sainsbury's
"Dance"
10s
24 Feb 2017
This brief instalment of Sainsbury's 'Food Dancing' campaign features a chap playing fast and loose with a grater while he grooves. The ubiquitous orange shopping bag in these otherwise black and white ads creates a distinctive look which stands out during any commercial break. The brand are encouraging everyone to get involved and boogie in their kitchen - just watch your fingers while you're at it!

Aldi
"Bubbles"
20s
24 Feb 2017
This ad comparing Aldi's Magnum range of dishwasher products with more familiar brands features two lovely performances from some bubble-clad tykes following a washing machine mishap. It's nice to see Aldi return to their tried and tested comparison format, allowing the price of the products to speak for themselves - whether they end up being used correctly or not.

Aldi
"Nicola Adams"
20s
16 Feb 2017
Boxer Nicola Adams stars in this brief ad for Aldi's 'Super Six' deal, during which the supermarket slashes the price of six items of fruit or veg for a week. There's a nice bit of food photography and some slow-motion shots of the Olympic champion standing in front of a British flag made of fruit - making her the seventh 'winner' of the week.

Aldi
"Fire"
20s
10 Feb 2017
Dave won Valentine's Day by going to Aldi to purchase his premium pink plonk, hand-finished card, and the ingredients for his candle-lit meal. He's truly 'on fire'... no, really, the straight-laced young man is transformed into a shirtless, glistening fireman. Woo hoo! Lovely bit of tongue-in-cheek humour.

Lidl
"Valentine Offer"
20s
13 Feb 2017
Lidl have plenty available for romantics (hopeless or otherwise) this Valentine’s Day. The supermarket promotes Valentine’s staples like roses, confectionary, and Prosecco, with prices suggesting romance needn’t cost an arm and a leg. So long as your date doesn’t find the receipt, you should be fine.

Lidl
"Pizza"
20s
9 Feb 2017
Lidl continue to prove they can provide literally every meal cheaper than their competitors - this time pizza. They offer the whole meal, including drinks, for less than a branded version. But let's talk about the real issue here: is it right or wrong to eat coleslaw with pizza? This ad raises more questions than it answers...

Sainsbury's
"Love Dancing"
30s
8 Feb 2017
A commercially-contrived event February 14th may be, but at least Orange Supermarket suggests we embrace the mood of the day rather than imply we're losers in love if we don't buy perfunctory gifts for our significant others. Better still, there's no discount price points cancelling out the thoughtfulness behind the limp flowers / battered chocolate box / bottle of Lambrini flogged by everyone else.

Lidl
"Steak and Chips"
20s
3 Feb 2017
It seems Lidl has every meal catered for in this campaign; next on the menu is steak and chips. For the price of a Sainsbury’s fillet steak, shoppers can fill the entire plate thanks to Lidl. With rising sales and an increased market share, the supermarket will be especially keen to, erm, chip away at its rivals this year.

Tesco
"The Bread Perfectionists"
30s
6 Feb 2017
Tesco's latest 'Food Love Story' is a baker's love-in. We join the supermarket's dedicated breadmakers as they turn flour, yeast, and water into fresh loaves. One chap even confesses: “I eat probably too much bread.” It aims to show Blue Supermarket’s staff take as much pleasure from making the food as we do eating it.
