Metcalfe's
"Electricity"
30s
9 March 2017
UK Popcorn

This fun Metcalfe’s ad depicts some shocking developments at the popcorn maker’s factory. A woman in a pink fur ensemble does her bit for snacking science by conducting static electricity. Once sufficiently charged, her new-found electric touch is enough to create a new batch. Who said laboratory conditions had be dull?

Directors Fatal Farm do a good job realising the lab’s retro aesthetic. Meanwhile, the sound of balloons bobbling against one another is equally satisfying as popping corn. The brand wants us to know they’re always looking for new breakthroughs in popcorn production - and we can imagine a few requesting a factory tour as a result.

Seat
"Race Car"
90s
10 Mar 2017
This commercial represents a massive improvement for a brand whose previous advertising has been so lacking in ambition it suggested the car's manufacturers didn't have any confidence in it. Gone are the hoary clichés of family life - instead we're given an emotional glimpse of the car's inner life. The vehicle in question is a racing car and as it's removed from storage every day to see if it can improve on yesterday's times, it yearns for a more fulfilling life on the open road.

Telia
"Cats"
30s
8 Mar 2017
Real cats aren't as funny as cats on the internet, a sombre voiceover informs us, so we shouldn't bother getting one. Instead, we should spend the money earmarked for litter and cat food on really good broadband from Swedish provider Telia, so we can watch funny animal videos to our heart's content. The faux-serious tone feels spot on here, as man and cat stare at each other with mutual disappointment.

Telia
"Married Men"
30s
8 Mar 2017
Swedish telecom outfit Telia cast a wry eye on our internet habits in this 30" commercial. While hubby drones on about Nietzsche and American politics (“Look at what’s happening in America”, eh?), his wife takes advantage of Telia’s superior broadband speeds to ogle some hunky spouses. Somehow we don’t fancy this couple’s long-term prospects.

Metcalfe's
"Skinny Popcorn"
30s
4 Mar 2017
This ad for Metcalfe's range of 'skinny' popcorn flavours explores some alternative methods of making the stuff pop. Featuring a gent with an impressive set of pipes, it shows him straining for a glass-crackingly high note as dogs flee the scene with the force of his warble. It kicks off an eye-catching campaign for the snack brand, sure to grab attention with its quirky humour.

Doritos
"Baby Dragon"
40s
6 Mar 2017
As fire hazards go, a baby dragon ranks among the cutest. Doritos nab one for this fun commercial which evokes 80s critters like Gizmo and ALF. Dogs, beware - looks like man’s found a new best friend. Biscuit’s Jeff Low ensures an idyllic bond between man and miniature beast, including trips to the park and go-karting.

Jose Cuervo
"Last Days"

7 Mar 2017
It's the end of the world as we know it... and with a little tequila we'll feel just fine. Jose Cuervo encourage us to live in the moment in this poignantly defiant film, set in a remote dive bar as the apocalypse looms. Some of the bar's patrons flee and take their chances in the storm, while others decide to stay put and wait for the inevitable.

Halifax
"Top Cat Bloopers"
40s
3 Mar 2017
Here’s a selection of ‘outtakes’ from Halifax’s Top Cat ad which gives us a glimpse into how animated the feline gang get when things go off-script. Of course, Top Cat remains the consummate professional while his fellow cast members fluff their lines. These bloopers accompany the main ad in cinemas, which should give audiences a chuckle before the main feature.

Road Safety
"Designated Driver"
60s
1 Mar 2017
This road safety film reminds us that dangerous driving comes in many forms. A woman picks up her sozzled partner from the pub. She shows commendable restraint while he regales her with hazy anecdotes… that is until she picks up her phone. In a darkly comic twist, they both agree the drunken one is in a better state to drive.

Camilla Elphick
"Digital Dreamland"
64s
27 Feb 2017
Fans of old school technology will be pinching themselves just now. As the Nokia 3310 enjoys its second coming, Windows 95 is back too. Well, sort of. Designer shoewear brand Camilla Elphick pays tribute to the venerable operating system in this frenetic ad. They may be promoting their spring-summer 2017 collection, but we’re slap bang in another era.

Time To Change
"Mates"
60s
24 Feb 2017
Mental health charity Time to Change launches a punchy film designed to encourage men to support a friend in need. Everyone’s got eyes for these three blokes as they swagger through the estate. Are they off for a post-work pint? Actually, they’re off to the local garage. Turns out their pal John's in need of a time-out.

Experian Credit Expert
"Next Steps"
30s
15 Feb 2017
First steps turn to next steps in this latest Experian commercial as it builds on last year's promise to provide free credit scores permanently. Having obtained that all-important number, consumers can now use CreditMatcher to find compatible loans and credit cards. Shots of moving feet create a suitably progressive tone.

Adidas
"Creativity"
30s
7 Feb 2017
Adidas unleash their creativity in this 30s ad championing 'more than hard work'. Starring supermodel Karlie Kloss and athletes Candace Parker and Becky Sauerbrunn, among others, the action-packed film builds on the brand's 2016 'Here to Create' campaign and reinforces the idea that creativity, along with hard work, is necessary to push the boundaries of sport. An intriguing concept and compelling visuals really hammer the message home.

Xerox
"Brother Dominic"
2 mins
8 Jan 2017
This short for Xerox is sumptuously cinematic in its sweep, with each detail and element lovingly considered. From the moment it opens on a remote monastery overlooking a rural idyll, it's obvious this is going to be something special... and it doesn't disappoint. The action focuses around Brother Dominic, who is creating pages of an illuminated manuscript with laborious care.

Open University
"What's Stopping You?"
30s
10 Jan 2017
The Open University appeals to those sitting on the fence about their futures. This lot decided to take the leap by studying with the advertised institution, allowing them to learn, grow, and eventually earn. The ad is pacy and positive, though the campaign arrives at a tricky time for the OU. Will staff unrest and tutorial centre closures concern potential applicants like these?

Iceland
"The Giordano Family"
30s
4 Jan 2017
The irony of this seasonal volte-face isn't lost on us, as Iceland entices with healthy food the same family who - a few short weeks ago - they were plying with prosecco and party nibbles. Now it's all low-calorie quinoa and Slimming World pasta salad to ring in the January hangover. Happy New Year, indeed.

KFC
"Brexit Nativty"
60s
5 Dec 2016
This commercial for KFC certainly has the 'huh?' factor. So much so that - on first viewing - it prompted a lot of puzzled faces and a certain amount of head shaking. But the idea of a traditional head teacher being thrown by one of her teacher's politicisation of the annual Nativity play has grown on us. It's an ad of our time.

KFC
"Unrequited Love"
40s
5 Dec 2016
The Colonel narrates an unexpected love triangle in this ad for KFC. A pair of geriatric lotharios who caused a stir in their retirement home fighting over a 'fine young filly' are reconciled by their mutual fondness for KFC. And a good thing too, because their fair lady was busy "mutton-busting" another chap while they slugged it out, the floozy.

Carphone Warehouse
"Christmas Elf"
30s
1 Dec 2016
It seems Carphone Warehouse sank the last of their budget into their Dubai-based ad, because Keith Lemon is in markedly more restrained surroundings for his Christmas outing. It's not exactly Lapland, but the malfunctioning lights and shabby backdrop are an inspired move and create a fitting end as the globe-trotting campaign returns home.

Iceland
"Party"
30s
28 Nov 2016
The Giordano family put together a ten-person party at the speed of light thanks to Iceland's frozen party food range. It's a diverse spread - sushi, macarons, and chorizo on the same table - and the ad takes a cheerful, conversational tone which makes the most of the subject matter.

3 mins 14s

One of two films from electric car maker NIO demonstrating their engineering prowess. NIO
"Nürburgring"
2 mins 30s
29 Nov 2016
Germany's famed Nürburgring has been at the centre of a F1 storm recently with the circuit's owners unwilling to host next year's German Grand Prix. Luckily for racing fans, Chinese electric car start-up NIO puts the track to good use by test driving their EP9 supercar. Fluid visuals and aggressive sound design sell this eco-friendly car's power.

KFC
"Difficult Daughter"
30s
28 Nov 2016
The Colonel brings feuding families together with KFC's first Christmas Burger launched in the UK (featuring no turkey, weirdly). Kids may throw tantrums and teens may bring their obnoxious boyfriend along for the ride, but peace and serenity can be restored for the price of a burger - it's a Christmas miracle.

Subway
"Festive Feast"
50s
17 Nov 2016
it's the morning after the office Christmas party, and you have The Fear - what was photocopied? Who was snogged? Will those pics of you and Ken... Len... Ben?... get sent to your entire friends list? Happily, Subway has the answer - a nice chunk of protein to kill the hangover and help brace you for the inevitable walk of shame back to your desk.

Sky Store
"Own It"
30s
15 Nov 2016
Idris Elba continues to flex his considerable charm on Sky's behalf in this latest ad for Sky Q. He tells us that, as with movies, we can now buy and own our favourite box sets three ways; popping up in various scenarios to illustrate this - including in a hot tub filled with tablets. The minimalist bling of the set design ensures nothing distracts us from either him or his message - smart.
