UK Washing Powders / Liquids

Shoppers are amazed by the revelation that their sparkling-white clothes have already been thoroughly stained - and subsequently washed with Ariel - in this neat hidden-camera ad. The small print informing us they were invited to the pop-up store by the brand (under a pseudonym, presumably?) begs some questions, but this is an effective piece of work regardless.

McDonald's McCafé

20 Feb 2017
When did a cup of joe become so complicated? The sheer variety of sizes, roasts, and finishes available is enough to leave anyone's head spinning. So this entertaining McDonald's McCafé ad offers salvation for all those who - in the face of overwhelming choice - have ever uttered the phrase: "I just want a coffee".

McDonald's
"Steve"

9 Feb 2017
This quirky spot for McDonalds has Steve - an employee at the fast food chain - trying to persuade Will (sitting next to him on the bus) that beef, the whole beef, and nothing but the beef goes into their burgers. When Will doesn't believe him, both they and the other passengers are transported to the processing plant which proves Steve's assertion. Stylishly done.

Co-op
"The Co-Op Way"
3 mins 50s
25 Jan 2017
‘This is England’ director Shane Meadows directs an extended look at various community schemes supported by the Co-op. It follows the supermarket’s Christmas campaign, which highlighted their commitment to local projects. Far tamer than some of Meadows’s cinematic efforts, but it’s still a diverting portrait of community spirit.

McDonald's
"Leaf Blower"
20s
10 Jan 2017
McDonald's appeal to customers who like to get their money's worth with this funny ad for their saver menu. A wife finally gets some peace and quiet to dry her hair... only to find her husband turning the leaf blower on her now he's finished with the garden. Like the rest of the ads in this campaign, this is short, punchy, and gets a chuckle in an effective 20".

Kellogg's Corn Flakes
"In My Bowl"
30s
6 Jan 2017
There's a focus on diversity in Leo Burnett's new campaign for Kellogg's. We're reminded there are endless possibilities for tarting up the breakfast classic, as a cross-section of the public shares their opinions on everything from milk temperature to toppings (thankfully kale is only mentioned in passing). There's even a hashtag where you can share your own #perfectbowl with the world.

McDonald's
"Lift"
60s
1 Jan 2017
McDonald's show how a broken lift becomes a sweet bonding experience for two women. Trapped alone together and awaiting rescue, the women share water, shoes, a scarf, secrets, stories, and a pair of headphones, but not even their new found friendship compels them to share the McDonald's Chicken Selects which is handed to them by their rescuers.

The Co-op puts community spirit at the heart of its Christmas campaign. We watch the good times roll in for friends, families, and workmates. Smuggler’s Joshua Neale creates an appealing medley of festive moments, from a passionate kiss to revellers enjoying a chilly Christmas swim. Yet that’s only half the story. We think we know what Christmas is all about, “but what if it could do more?”

Co-op Supermarkets
"Southport Lifeboat Rescue Station"
72s
1 Dec 2016
This Co-op film is one of two which focuses on community projects. We're introduced to Tony Masters - one of the volunteers working for Southport Lifeboat. The crew relies on donations to help keep the Sefton coastline safe, and by joining the supermarket's loyalty scheme, shoppers can help essential organisations like this stay afloat.

Co-op Supermarkets
"Meanwood Valley Urban Farm"
87s
1 Dec 2016
One of two thoughtful Co-op films shining a light on community projects across the country. We're given a tour of Meanwood Valley Urban Farm - a Leeds charity which brings the countryside to the city. The supermarket's support of ventures such as Meanwood Valley ensures more people have the chance to enjoy new and enriching experiences.

Betsson
"Estate Agent"
30s
24 Nov 2016
Who knew estate agents had a fun-loving side? Online betting site Betsson aim to show everyone's a player in some shape or form. This couple is impressed by their dream home's storage space - though they didn't anticipate just how roomy the upstairs cupboard is. It's a fun pay-off, and the brand's play anywhere mentality comes across with a jolt.

Betsson
"Rubdown"
30s
24 Nov 2016
One of two Betsson ads encouraging us to indulge our childish impulses. Here, a locker room attendant makes things very awkward for the physio by swapping aggressive rap for sensual R&B. It's a familiar gag - sweaty men, touching, a subsequent misunderstanding - but the online betting site stays just on the right side of cheeky.

McDonald's
"Juliette"
90s
21 Nov 2016
McDonald's give hope to toys nationwide with their Christmas film. We're introduced to Juliette - a vintage doll who's never experienced playtime and has learnt to endure her loneliness with silent fortitude. Each day from her toy shop window she wistfully watches people meet up to share food and laughter in the McDonald's across the street... and she resolves to act.

McDonald's
"Chicken McNuggets"
40s
10 Nov 2016
McDonald's aim to set the record straight on Chicken McNuggets... again. The fast food restaurant has tackled what does and what doesn't go into their McNuggets once before, but they want to make sure everyone's got the message with this new execution. Forget beaks, bits, feet, innards, and feathers, says the VO - it's chicken breast through and through.

McDonald's
"Mexican Stack"
20s
9 Nov 2016
A woman misguidedly attempts to start a Mexican wave in this ad for the last of McDonald's globe-trotting limited edition burgers - the Mexican Stack, available for two weeks only. Someone ought to tell her about the British attitude to commuting... not likely to get any participation there; just a loud tut and the disapproving rustle of a newspaper at most.

McDonald's
"Swiss Stack"
20s
26 Oct 2016
McDonald's suggest your local multi-storey car park is an ideal substitute for the Swiss Alps. This motorist is surprised to see a blue-clad skier enjoying the exceptionally dry slope conditions. Shame about the lack of ski-lift, though. Those looking for a more low-key taste of Switzerland can try the chain's new Swiss Stack burger for two weeks only.

Kellogg's Special K
"Strength"
30s
18 Oct 2016
Kellogg's appear to have listened to criticism, returning with a re-cut of their latest ad for Special K 'Nourish'. There's not a lot to write home about, but they've changed their clips up a little and made things more diverse (women of different body types, a pregnant woman, even two women kissing) as opposed to the overwhelmingly vapid, white-bread feeling of the ad before. DAVID thinks it's a definite step in the right direction.

McDonald's
"Speaker"
30s
13 Oct 2016
McDonald's presents another good-natured example of life when the body is willing, but the mind is asleep. This chap suffers a communication breakdown while trying to order a drive-thru breakfast - ordering through the speaker rather than a bin would be a good start. Director David Kerr coaxes some lovely, groggy frustration from the lead actor before his mistake dawns on him.

McDonald's
"South African Stack"
20s
12 Oct 2016
A bloke wearing an elephant mask bumbles his way to his car keys while his partner appears non-plussed on the sofa. Takes all sorts, we suppose. The visual gag promotes the latest globe-trotting menu from the fast food chain and first up is the South African Stack burger. Meanwhile, how's this guy going to explain himself to the traffic police?

End Youth Homelessness
"The Wall"
60s
10 Oct 2016
End Youth Homelessness uses stark animation and harsh sound design to remind us that each step a homeless youngster takes pushes them further into despair. For the charity, there has to be another way. A graffiti figure navigates a wall as spray-painted phrases tell a distressing story of domestic abuse, fear, and uncertainty. The silhouette clambers over these words, forced to make endless leaps of faith.

The diverse casting in this film is what really stands out for us at DAVID. The Co-op have done a stellar job of showing a wide variety of human beings in their new ad; people of all ages, races, and sexualities all need ethically-sourced products 'fairly priced and just down the road'.

Flash
"Dog (Signed Version)"
30s
16 Sep 2016
Another of the signed versions of current commercials which appeared in a single ad break during Channel 4's The Last Leg. This time it's the Flash ad that has a dog 'miming' the words of a Queen classic. The ad is camp enough as it is but why not add a signer for the deaf dressed up as the canine protagonist. Why not indeed! Great fun.

McDonald's
"Judo Legend"
30s
30 Aug 2016
This curly-haired gentleman willingly enters a world of pain each and every time his judo instructor asks for a volunteer from the line-up. Sparing his fellow classmates the discomfort of a well-applied arm hold or a face-first rendezvous with the mat, Elliot earns legendary status amongst the West Heath judo community... and one participant knows exactly what kind of chicken sandwich is worthy of his efforts.

McDonald's
"Summer of Good Times"
60s
17 Aug 2016
Come rain, shine, or a maddening combination of the two, McDonald's aim to help foster lasting memories of summer with a range of community activities and stunts. This ad features some appealing outdoor photography as punters young and old enjoy themselves whatever the conditions, while select items from the restaurant's menu are shown to be the ideal accompaniment for such carefree antics.

Co-op Supermarkets
"Park Barbie"
10s
17 Aug 2016
Percy the Park Keeper might take umbrage with folk setting up disposable barbecues on his turf, but the peckish duo in this 10" Co-op ad look to have everything under control. It's the latest nudge towards picking up something unexpected from the store's shelves this summer, so we've only got a couple of weeks to do so until we're presumably advised to lock our spontaneity away until next year.
