Skeletor saved with moneysupermarket.com, and now he feels epic. So epic, in fact, that he's ready to renounce a life of universe-conquering and dance triumphantly through the streets to Irene Cara's 'Fame'.

The villain quickly wins the town over with his hip-thrusting moves... which we can't quite imagine Frank Langella busting out. Even He-Man is impressed, showing that sometimes all that's needed to bury the hatchet - sorry, Sword of Power - is astutely managed finances.

It remains to be seen whether the brand has retired the 'squads' conceit but this feels like a shrewd move even if it's only to provide a bit of respite from a well-loved but relentless campaign. Epic Skeletor has a weirdness factor and nostalgic twist sure to inspire the Twittersphere. Mother and Fredrik Bond have certainly made this one #epic.

Boots eschew the usual cards and flowers in favour of pampering a mum who spends most of the time getting her hands dirty mucking out cows. It's a smart move to put the kids front and centre in this documentary-style film, especially when one tyke declares his mum can now have 'a good old scrub' and get 'shiny'.

Long associated with the likes of Michael Parkinson offering free Parker pens “just for enquiring”, the insurer flips the script in this all-action commercial. The entertaining script encourages growing old disgracefully with some well-staged beats.

This 10" look at one of the website's cookery classes suggests singletons can improve their chances with a little culinary mischief. The real story is taking place in the background, however - the blonde woman can't take her eyes off the smitten couple. Potential love triangle?

We’re back in the Ritz kitchen for another flavoursome balancing act. This time, it’s the brand’s Bakefuls variety in the spotlight. Freefalling onions are drenched in vinegar, while feathers glide downwards to sell the snack’s healthy credentials. Michel Legrand's 'Di-Gue-Ding-Ding' once again complement the neat visuals.

Once these scales are activated, we watch a selection of sliced and diced ingredients hover in mid-air, showing us just how precise their Crisp & Thins recipe is. Together with Alexander Armstrong’s glib VO and Michel Legrand’s ‘Di-Gue Ding Ding’, the product comes across as a classy snack option.

In keeping with the brand's motif, she's on the larger side and we can't help worrying that some will feel they're being invited to laugh at her because of it.

Ikea turn the struggle to get a good night's sleep into a competitive sport in this rousing ad. Featuring the vocal stylings of motivational speaker Derrick Moore, sleepers are framed as athletes gearing up for the biggest test of their careers: eight full hours. The small details are particularly satisfying here: including the 'Snoozin' Jo' boxer-style robe and night cream applied in the manner of warpaint.

We're waiting for the commercial where a woman falls for a man whose irresistible flaw is gambling... she shrugs at him with an adoring smile as he emerges from the bookies with his life in tatters and a newly acquired debt to a man whose middle name is "the".

Halfords sum up the reality of going away for the weekend with your mates in this frenetic ad. The script's staccato barrage carries us along on an exhausting but exhilarating ride, once again smartly implying that a trip to the retailer beforehand ensures we can take spontaneity for granted.

No doubt many will subscribe to the Baileys vision of extreme cosiness. Despite the log fire and soft furnishings , this sofa looks unattended... until a hand reaches out from under the cushions to grope for a fistful of popcorn. Now that's fast track comfort. All that remains is to pour a glass of the advertised liquor and pure indulgence is yours for the night.

Knock a hole in the wall, shove them in, you're done. Joanna Lumley's VO suggests vandalism can seem like an act of classy irreverence so long as you keep it in the home.

This festive ad for Bailey's features a syrupy pear playing hard to get as a diner chases it round her dessert plate with a fork. Eventually it shoots off and meets an untimely end, at which point the anonymous diner improvises with a glass of the liqueur. Joanna Lumley's dulcet VO and Yello's 'Oh Yeah' give the whole spot a strange 80s vibe.

Ads featuring elves are not unusual at this time of year. However, as always, it's not what you show – it's how you show it. And Not On The High Street's festive offering this year is a excellent reminder. Hand crafted, customised, or bespoke, presents from NOTHS say you're thoughtful and value the person on the receiving end. So when jewellers and joiners pause in their work to seemingly echo this sentiment we don't notice at first that there's something... well, different about them.

Boots use their Christmas ad to pay tribute to those keeping us safe and healthy over the festive period. Firefighters, nurses and ambulance staff all receive their moment in the spotlight thanks to the retailer's mobile beauty section.

Things get far too dark for a pair of goths in this sharply-edited short when they realise one of their headlights has died. It succinctly gets across the idea that a pit stop at Halfords should mean only a brief diversion thanks to the store's on-the-spot fitting service, although, in our experience, you might just get sent away with a "computer says no" kind of response from the staff.

Another 10s spot for Halfords, this time featuring a couple on their way to a fancy dress party. Unable to agree on music and unable to drive in silence due to their annoyingly squeaky windscreen wipers, a quick trip to Halfords is requires in order to resolve the issue. Although sadly it also robs us of the chance to witness a cat vs lobster fight.

Halfords subverts expectations with this amusing ad for their on-the-spot fitting service. You expect this chap to be a nightmare - he calls his car 'the beast' - but he's actually a nice young man who apologises for disturbing the neighbours and pops into Halfords to get a new car battery on the way to see his mum. Bless.

IKEA tug the heartstrings with this understated, affecting ad for its lighting range. The ad opens with quiet shots of a woman heading home after work at night, walking through poorly lit streets while her son waits up and worries. A look around the room gives him an idea, and the next day he canvasses the neighbourhood and borrow lamps from as many friends and neighbours as possible to light her way home safely.

You never know when a Boots optician is going to appear at your workplace, eh? This chirpy woman 'surprises' a make-up artist with a demonstration of the retailer's eyewear range. Despite Victoria's initial reservations, she soon finds her ideal pair of glasses. Even if the joviality feels a touch forced, the ad puts spectacle shopping in a positive light.

The ad does a decent job showcasing the retailer's beauty range, though 30" struggles to convey this jaunt as a transformative experience.
