UK Health Insurance

These compelling ads for BUPA promise to help you get back to the things you love with pay-as-you-go physiotherapy. Two top-notch performances - first from the Dad-o-saurus Rex, second a woman who really likes a cold bath - illustrate a couple of life-affirming ways in which we take our physicality for granted.

Department for International Trade
"Invest in GREAT Britain"
90s
31 Jan 2017
The Department for International Trade extends an invitation to global investors with this beautifully shot film. Where do you begin when showing Blighty at its best? Well, a cameo from James Bond’s Aston Martin DB11 is a good place to start. Dan Gifford and DP David Luther ensure a polished outcome as various UK industries receive their moment in the spotlight.

B & Q
"Mandi"
20s
21 Nov 2016
B & Q add a festive spin to their in-store heroes series as we’re introduced to Mandi a.k.a. The Queen of Christmas (sorry, Mrs Claus). Trolley brimming with decorations, Mandi helps customers find everything from the right tree - be it magical or musical - to a glowing snowman. Perhaps Leicester City Council should've paid a visit before decorating their tree.

B & Q
"Louis"
30s
13 Sep 2016
B & Q introduces another in-store hero wearing the retailer's orange apron like a boss. Louis struts through the kitchen department in slow motion while the VO uses a variety of cooking-inspired terms to describe his prowess. While Louis walks the walk, he's also got the right attitude when it comes to helping customers with their kitchen design queries.

Sky Broadband
"Dinner Plans"

31 Aug 2016
Sky enlist the cast from 'The Secret Life of Pets' again for this commercial, which focuses on their line rental packages offering free calls to mobiles. It's sweetly done and once again emphasizes Sky's clout by reminding us of their association with the biggest box office films, even when that's not the point of the communication.

B & Q
"Clark"
20s
18 Aug 2016
B & Q change course from their cast of animal DIY enthusiasts to focus on the in-store heroes who make our home improvement whims a reality. This execution introduces us to Clark in all his slow-motion glory as he helps customers find the right shade and the right brush for the job. A less furry direction for the retailer, but it should help remind punters to get their painterly essentials ready for the bank holiday weekend.

Sky Broadband
"Lazy Broadband"

Having trumped 'Independence Day: Resurgence' at the UK box office, you'd think the cast of animated flick 'The Secret Life of Pets' would have earned a reliable broadband service. Alas, Basset Hound Pops has his eyes opened in more ways than one by the buffering screen in front of him. To make sure this dog has its day, his companions unsurprisingly recommend switching to Sky Broadband.

"The Secret Life of Pets"

Sky attach themselves to another highly-anticipated animated movie to promote the merits of their broadband service - this time, it's the cast of 'The Secret Life of Pets' struggling with lag. With no humans around, Gidget the white Pomeranian attempts to coax her furry companions into a dance routine - a feat made difficult by their lousy router. Unsurprisingly, it's Sky who prove to be the mutt's nuts in the reliable broadband department.

Royal Navy Reserves
"Wednesdays"
60s
17 Mar 2016
More than any previous recruitment film for the reserve wings of our armed services, this portrays the visceral excitement of the time you might spend with them. But it does so with responsibility... there's no glorification of combat here. It's about taking self-fulfilment and creating an area of your life which differs from the humdrum of day-to-day living.

Royal Navy
"Submariner"
60s
15 Dec 2015
The final instalment in WCRS's excellent series of Royal Navy films focuses on the camaraderie recruits can experience during their stint. While this submariner admits the prospect of working with advanced technology pulled him in, it's the bonds developed with his fellow sailors that have made him stay. Another strong and persuasive piece with personal development at its heart.

Royal Navy
"Pride"
60s
10 Nov 2015
Another strong entry in the Royal Navy's impressive series of recruitment films employs a neat visual device to chart this young man's shift from an uncertain future to gracing the pitch at Twickenham. As with any big decision, it's the first step out the door which matters the most. That's the one that starts him on his way to a Royal Navy recruitment office, then on to aircraft carriers, foreign lands, and the home of English rugby.

E.on
"Whenever, Wherever"
30s
8 Oct 2015
This fun spot from E.on loudly and clearly gets across the message that it allows you to control your energy supply wherever you are, and pay for it as you go. A chap on a horse is reassured by an E.on spokesperson - facing him on the same horse - that this is the case, and this spokesperson pops up in increasingly bizarre situations to continue to reply in the affirmative to his customer's incredulous queries. Lovely.

Royal Navy
"Tom"
60s
26 Aug 2015
Another excellent spot commandingly convincing us that a stint in the Royal Navy will turn recruits from ditherers to doers. Tom's mum reads out his mediocre school reports and marvels at how her apparently unremarkable son has turned into such a capable adult. It's beautifully done, and the filming allows the results to speak for themselves.

Now TV
"Big Date Night In"
20s
20 Aug 2015
A big date night in isn't a mug of tea in front of the tellybox; it's a small glass of wine in front of the tellybox. Granted, though, the difference is that you can settle down to watch any number of things that aren't on terrestrial channels so it can feel like you're at the movies. Well, it is if you believe this spot for Now TV.

Royal Navy
"Shantel"
70s
13 Aug 2015
This film from the Royal Navy is designed to chime with those looking to hone their culinary skills in a way they may not have previously considered. The personable Shantel relates how her cooking prowess has grown from making pasta and corned beef at home to preparing food for an entire crew. It's a clever way to show how joining the forces can do more for your personal growth than simply teaching you how to deal with emergencies.

"Made in the Navy - cinema"
90s
7 Apr 2015
This version of Ed Morris's "Made in the Navy" film has been specially extended for cinema release, and does what we didn't think could be done - it improves on the original. It's a bold decision to do away with the narrated script that was so effective first time around, but "You'll Never Walk Alone" as the soundtrack is an inspired choice.

"Made in the Royal Navy"
60s
30 Dec 2014
This powerful commercial for the Royal Navy delivers on many levels. A superb script conveys its message directly and with impact, yet never feels forced. The correlating imagery is creative without being contrived. The pace - dictated by the script's rhythm - is impassioned but beautifully devoid of machismo. Grace and resourcefulness win the day: a triumph all round.
