Hilton
"Weekenders"
30s
1 March 2017
UK Hotels

This rhyming ad for Hilton takes a look at the different kinds of guests who stay at their hotels. Whether your passion is golf, shopping, or trying wacky new sports, the hotel chain encourages you to book directly on their site so you don't miss out on any of the fun. Referring to their guests as 'weekenders' does remind us of the Inbetweeners though... we know which gang we'd rather join.

money.co.uk
"Check"
30s
5 Jan 2017
Money.co.uk eschew a spokesperson in favour of exploring more universal moments with their first major ad campaign. To reinforce the claim that the site checks more financial products than any other, we're shown a montage of situations where people could - or should - check things. Be they horoscopes, shoelaces, lottery numbers, or, uh, prostates.

Audible
"Juliet Stevenson"
30s
5 Oct 2016
The latest ad in this winning series for Amazon's talking books service has Juliet Stevenson suggesting we let our imagination enhance the daily commute. Her description of such fantastical images as a newborn dragon and an intimate murder has us picturing impossible things, once again demonstrating how "when we listen, amazing things happen".

Audible
"Eddie Marsan"
30s
4 Oct 2016
Eddie Marsan sounds slightly threatening as he plays with our imagination in this commercial from Audible, Amazon's audiobook branch. The actor delivers a boatload of gravitas as he conjures surreal images which demonstrate the power of words to enliven our lives... even when we're enduring the most boring commute imaginable.

Magners
"Hold True"
60s
5 Jun 2016
Anyone out wetting their whistle recently will have noticed Magners have undergone a bit of a makeover. It stands to reason the cider-maker wants to make a song and dance about it, but as this genre-hopping commercial shows, they wish to embrace as many interpretations as possible. 'I'm Free' by the Rolling Stones encapsulates the brand's new zest for individuality as the film flits between various musical styles.

Carlsberg
"Pessimism for Optimism"
2 mins
23 May 2016
We've previously observed how the actor in this patriotic Carlsberg ad has become a familiar face during ad breaks, and now he gets the chance to do Shakespeare... sort of. "People of England, lend me your ears", pleads this pub-goer as the national team run fans through a traditional gauntlet of emotions on the TV. This isn't the time for work, DIY, or negativity to divide us - it's time for all of us to stand together with hope in one hand and a pint in the other.

Carlsberg
"Seat for a Seat"
70s
9 May 2016
Chris Kamara goes deepish undercover as an old man on behalf of Carlsberg to find the London Underground's most generous travellers. When passengers offer Kammy their seat on the subs bench as it were, the Sky Sports pundit shows his gratitude with a pair of Euro 2016 tickets. While it's clear Kamara isn't a method actor by any stretch, his charm shines through the prosthetics and the ad further emphasises the brand's positive association with football.

Audible
"Alien"
35s
26 Apr 2016
To mark the launch of 'Alien: Out of the Shadows', Audible remind us why space-faring sorts should never turn their back when a Xenomorph is at large. This Weyland-Yutani employee takes a moment to record a video message for his family back home. Alas, he's interrupted by an unwelcome visitor lurking behind the door. While no one in space can hear you scream, audiobook listeners certainly can.

Wonga
"Hamster"
30s
7 Apr 2016
If your finances make you feel like you're trapped in a hamster ball whose progress is thwarted at every turn, you may want to call on Wonga for assistance, we're told in their latest ad. It suggests that rather than trying to scale impossible heights in one go, you can clear all obstacles in manageable steps and make shorter work of getting where you want to go.

Gumtree
"Jobs"
30s
10 Mar 2016
Gumtree round off a fine trio of ads with this upbeat film focusing on a foodie chasing the sweet smell of success. Spotting a vacancy on the advertised website, he quickly envisions how a gig as a kitchen assistant could soon mushroom into something far greater. Respect from the head chef, searches for evermore exotic ingredients, his own culinary enterprise... for now, best just fire off that application.

Gumtree
"Convertible"
30s
22 Feb 2016
This sweet ad features a grey-haired couple spotting a Karmann Ghia on Gumtree and deciding to throw caution to the wind. Does it enable them to relive their youth, or just throw into focus the fact that they've never really grown out of it? The only thing we'd like to see more of is what makes Gumtree the go-to place to look for stuff - although the ad does intrigue you enough to consider checking it out.

Hilton
"Stop Clicking Around"
60s
17 Feb 2016
This bustling commercial for Hilton depicts hotel room seekers from every walk of life swiping, tapping, and clicking their way to what they hope is the cheapest rate. '(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction' isn't playing for nothing, though. Instead of getting caught up in the search, the hotel chain recommends coming to them direct.

Gumtree
"Piano"
30s
18 Jan 2016
This beautifully composed 30" commercial for Gumtree has a dad speculating about the chain of events he could trigger by buying a second-hand piano for his daughter. In his mind's eye, the endless practice that follows her delight leads to fame, success and a bright future. He's quickly brought back down to earth but his flight of fancy is really quite charming.

Audible
"Science Fiction"
20s
11 Jan 2016
Audible purport to bring your favourite literary genres to life without you ever needing to turn a page. While we've never been asked if we've heard any good books lately, audiobook sales remain healthy at a time when eBooks appear to be faltering, and this ad plays to the form's strengths with Steven Berkoff's dramatic narration of a sci-fi tale.

Samsung
"Accidents"
1 min 35s
25 Nov 2015
This lovely ad for Samsung reminds us of the Currys PC World commercial where a dog is framed for a crime it didn't commit in the name of its owner getting a new laptop. The gag is multiplied here and it's just as amusing. This lot seem strangely relaxed about potential threats to their TV sets. In fact, they try their best to steer them towards their telly boxes.

Doddle
"Black Friday"
45s
25 Nov 2015
The shopper's battleground that is Black Friday has proven to be fertile territory for advertisers and Doddle enjoy depicting the frenzy as much as they enjoy providing the solution. Rather than risk receiving a toaster to the face, the parcel service allows customers to pick up their online bargains from a variety of convenient locations - no doubt a tempting alternative for many.

Pandora
"Christmas Sparkle"
30s
1 Nov 2015
This campaign for jewellery brand Pandora must be doing the trick for them, as it continues to use the "wherever life takes you" theme backed by Gabrielle Aplin's specially-written track 'Moments'. While it may not appeal to us, we appreciate it's a very stylishly-made idea that the target audience - teenage girls and young women who fervently believe they'll wear a charm bracelet forever - will wholeheartedly embrace.

San Miguel
"The Story"
60s
6 Jun 2015
A lot of money has been spent on this... and almost all of it has been wasted. San Miguel's 'story' is told by a number of different people in different locations but what should have been dynamic and fleet-of-foot is clunky and leaden-hoofed. The idea may not be terrible but the execution is - and you really have to wonder how this went so spectacularly wrong when it clearly could have been half-decent.

Wonga
"Late"
30s
3 Jun 2015
Wonga continues its rehabilitation with this latest spot which - as last time - features an array of highly respectable folk. They don't specifically say they rely on the company's loans - instead, they're simply telling us they're (almost) never late for anything. Luckily, Wonga allows a short grace period for those that are.

888 Ladies
"Pink Army"
30s
2 Jun 2015
Ooh - crafty. To make you feel better about feeding your dosh into an insatiable, virtual maw, this ad tells us that it will donate some of that money to Cancer Research UK while showing pink-garbed runners raising cash for the cause. As such, you're neatly lumped in with the healthy fundraisers instead of the lardy loafers frittering their lives away playing online bingo.

888.com
"Carnival"
10s
26 May 2015
888.com present themselves as a garish theme park for those partial to a go on the carousel...sorry, roulette wheel. New customers can nab themselves 88 worth of free bets on registering with the online betting company. After that, they may risk losing their wallet while on the rollercoaster and finding little compassion from the lost and found.

Wonga
"Responsible"
30s
20 May 2015
Wonga has moved on significantly in this campaign, the first from its new agency Fold 7. Gone are the Wongies - the elderly puppets - and in their place are a bunch of ordinary people with jobs of all descriptions telling us their responsibilities. We're meant to glean from this that even though they don't say they resort to borrowing cash from the loans company, they're the kind who quite happily would.

Go Compare
"All Star Family Fortunes Bumpers"
84s
18 Mar 2015
A humorously one-sided game of pub-based Family Fortunes unfolds in the land of Go Compare. Each bumper shows the price comparison champions doing their utmost to ensure the opposition team wins. A smart and enjoyable way of emphasizing the site's helpful mantra, performed by a cast now clearly at ease in their roles.

Go Compare
"Sofa Savers"
20s
24 Feb 2015
Members of the Go Compare superteam hit the road in this latest ad; hurtling about the Welsh countryside on a motorised sofa to save the nation more dosh on their insurance. It's done with the perfect balance of silliness and zest; and the casting is just right. If we were inclined to use comparison sites, this is definitely one of the top two we'd opt for!

Gumtree
"Reasons to Use Gumtree"
30s
10 Feb 2015
This energetic spot for Gumtree is evidently inspired by Ian Dury's excellent Reasons To Be Cheerful; using the track as a basis for explaining what you can sell or exchange on the site and how simple it is to use. It feels perfectly pitched at its target market, and while it looks pretty basic, it doesn't suffer for that in the slightest.
