UK TV Programmes

ITV have created another beautiful short film about racing, this time centred around their coverage of the Cheltenham Festival. More dramatic than their last outing, the pulsing soundtrack creates a sense of urgency and anticipation. It accompanies intimate visuals of the preparations for the big day, before coming to a head with the thrill of the race itself. As the script says: nothing comes close.

"1 in 2 Million"
2 mins 58s
9 Mar 2017
ITV have created this short film to thank their two million Twitter followers for, well, existing. Randomly selected tweets are incorporated into a song, creating lyrics that reach so far they're at risk of pulling something. The cheery video seems to have gone down a storm on social media, although a shorter edit might make it punchier.

"Chris Eubank, Jr."
60s
26 Jan 2017
After a soggy start to ITVís horseracing coverage, the channel is now taking on pay-per-view outlets like Sky and BoxNation at their own game with Box Office. Once heís in the ring, he shows just how fighting fit he is.

After a turbulent spell on the BBC, The Voice UK has now arrived on ITV. This space-themed promo sees returning judges will.i.am and Sir Tom Jones sat alongside newcomers Jennifer Hudson and Gavin Rossdale. One contestant treats the judging panel to a thunderous performance... one which sends will.i.am into orbit. With The X Factor stalling, ITV will be hoping their latest acquisition is a hit.

ITV mark horse racingís return to their schedules with this beautifully shot film. Having wrested broadcasting rights back from Channel 4, the station wants to treat the sport of kings with due reverence. tantrumís Trent Jaklitsch and DP Ben Magahy ensure itís a fitting spectacle as the channel prepares for the starting flag.

"Lost"

31 Oct 2016
Cheeky chaps Ant and Dec return in this dark and spooky ad announcing another series of celebrities eating kangaroo bollocks for our amusement. The pair find themselves totally lost in the jungle, ribbing each other and cracking some truly terrible jokes before being scared senseless by spiders and skeletons. It's okay lads, they'll vote you off soon.

Emmerdale
"The Last Dance"
60s
10 Oct 2016
Emmerdale create suspense for their teased October death in this atmospheric trail. Opening with an ominous ticking clock, the tension builds from the start as Dinah Washington's 'What A Difference A Day Makes' echoes though an undefined space that must have taken a fair whack of the budget to fill with dry ice. A shadowy spectre billows threateningly around our couples - dancing, appropriately - as we wonder who will take their last dance and be killed this Autumn.

"Biggest Sports Day"
30s
10 Aug 2016
The National Lottery invites us to take part in the UK's "biggest sports day", with something to suit all levels of ability from hurdles to hula-hooping. The cheery animation reassures us that there's nothing intimidating about joining in... and as our Olympic athletes have benefited from lottery funding, you never know where it might lead!

"Sports Day"

The National Lottery attempt to blend the tasteful animated style used in their recent Team GB film with Lorraine Kelly's chirpy presence, yet the two elements fail to gel in this 20" ad. The cause is good, but the execution feels like it could have done with some polish - and why is the final line delivered like an annoying neighbour you're hoping to avoid answering the door to?

ITV
"Remind Me"
30s
6 Aug 2016
This ITV commercial observes the myriad of ways we use to remind ourselves and others about the little things in life. However, Post-it notes, thick pen scrawls, and a bank of alarm clocks can only go so far in keeping us on schedule with our favourite programmes. Thus, the channel's 'Remind Me' service means we won't miss our favourite shows again... well, as long as we don't put our phones on silent.

"Team Effort"

An elegant animation style is used to draw attention to the National Lottery's support of Team GB - the collection of athletes who will be covering our nation in glory in Rio next month. Tickets providing no win for those who bought them are nonetheless valuable to our Olympic effort as they fly from homes and boost the competitors.

The symbolism is clear as a ball spins around a roulette wheel... we must all decide which way to gamble. ITV are going to help us decide by giving us a choice between pig-bothering cockwomble David Cameron and toad-faced Nazi re-enactment enthusiast Nigel Farage. It may be time to pass round the cyanide capsules.

Eric Cantona provides the VO as we see a number of players and fans executing their pre-match rituals. It's a really neatly compiled collection with Cantona's enthusiastic performance (and the underlying music) holding the whole thing together beautifully. Just a week to go now until the tournament kicks off!

ITV Sport
"Summer of Sport"
60s
26 May 2016
Eric Cantona is the perfect choice to promote ITV's summer of sport. Not only is the former Leeds and Manchester United striker remembered with enormous fondness, he is French and that's where the independent broadcaster is sourcing most of its sport this summer. They have the European Championships (they'll be sharing it with the BBC as usual); as well as the Tour de France and the French Open tennis.

ITV
"The Queen's Ad Break"
2 mins 40s
15 May 2016
Having played around with Lego and wool in their previous ad break specials, ITV Creative stick with live action as the channel mark the Queen's 90th birthday celebrations with a party on Coronation Street. Weatherfield's familiar faces are nowhere to be seen, so a cast of well-known brands and ITV stars step in for a royal shindig on the cobbles.

Britain's Got Talent
"Cinderella"
60s
11 Mar 2016
Always one to tell a story, David Walliams throws himself into the role of raconteur in this colourful trailer for Britain's Got Talent. With the show pitched as a thoroughly modern fairytale, Walliams joins his fellow judges and hosts Ant & Dec in building anticipation for this year's batch of assorted performers from both the human and animal kingdoms.

ITV 2
"Celebrity Juice Live"
40s
4 Mar 2016
Keith Lemon announces that Celebrity Juice is going live... and it's enough to turn the show's production office into a disaster zone. Director Matt Carter packs plenty of gags into this 40" explosion of chaos, including Holly Willoughby's catatonic state on the This Morning sofa and the colourful responses of Lemon's co-workers to their careers going up in smoke. Relax, everyone - the man says it'll be "ace".

Dreams
"Woolly Mattress"
30s
26 Feb 2016
One of the woolly remixes from ITV's knitted ad break receives its own standalone slot and the charm factor remains just as strong. The visual makeover maintains the effective depiction of one couple's mattress over eight years from Cheetham Bell's original ad while adding an extra homespun vibe to proceedings - ideal for the brand's recent direction.

ITV 2
"Family Guy"
80s
15 Feb 2016
These cleverly composed ads show the cast of Family Guy making themselves at home on ITV 2... though HR may want to keep an eye on Herbert. Elsewhere, Stewie tries and fails to keep his cool around Caroline Flack, while Quagmire's session in the VO booth nearly pushes a recording technician over the edge. Moments from the show are spliced in very nicely with the channel embracing the animation's edgy humour.

Six Nations
"In the Thick of the Action"
60s
1 Jan 2016
POV filming is used to emphasise the interactivity of ITV's rugby coverage in this trail for the Six Nations tournament. Players and TV audience edge ever closer to one another until they seem to be acting in concert. There are some nice touches along the way and it might even persuade a few non-rugby fans to watch the tournament when the matches roll around.

Text Santa
"Knitted Ad Break"
3 mins 15s
18 Dec 2015
Inspired by the Lego ad break, ITV Creative decided to support the annual Text Santa charity drive with a specially commissioned knitted ad break... and it's great fun. Apparently, they had to avoid any commercial with water, fireworks, or swift scene changes as it's too difficult to recreate these using wool. DAVID loves these kinds of stunts and hopes to see more in 2016.

I'm A Celebrity
"Shower"
20s
25 Oct 2015
The diminutive chaps provide another splash of their own brand of humour in this spot for 'I'm A Celebrity'. Ant (or Dec) is feeling horribly whiffy, unlike Dec (or Ant) who's been washing his didgeridoos in a handy shower fashioned from an old telephone booth. They do look weird with all that facial hair, don't they?

"SOS"
60s
23 Oct 2015
Those great vaudevillians Anthony McPartlin and Declan Donnelly will soon be returning to our screen with another group of fading celebrities willing to trade public humiliation for another shot at the big time. While The X Factor's star continues to wane, ITV's other ratings juggernauts - 'I'm A Celebrity...' and 'Britain's Got Talent' continue to pull in the punters and it's no coincidence that they're both held together by the Geordie presenters while Simon Cowell hasn't (yet) asked them to save his most treasured show.

"SOS"

13 Oct 2015
It seems poor Ant and Dec missed the last helicopter out of Oz after the last series of I'm A Celebrity ended. Having exhausted their supply of tinned food, they've been reduced to roasting some kind of unidentified critter on the barbie while they await rescue. Series 15 should see them safely back on their usual platform while a fresh batch of personalities tuck into kangaroo cojones.

Coronation Street
"Nowhere To Run"
40s
3 Sep 2015
This energetic trail for Coronation Street's upcoming live episode sees the soap's famous cobbles pounded like never before. The Platt family find themselves desperately trying to evade drug dealer Callum before realising the jig's up. Heart rates will already be pulsing on the night, but the performers put their all in here with a nice level of cinematic sheen to go with it.
