UK Power Utility Companies

A penguin at a railway station is handing out smart devices to his own kind in a bid to illustrate how millions of people have chosen British Gas's technology to help them take firm control of their central heating. These devices are pretty cool but you'll use them to adjust the temperature more often in the first week than you ever will again.

Planters
"Tasty Nuts"
30s
3 Feb 2017
Planters make a song and dance with their UK debut. To an old-fashioned big band jingle, the brand’s venerable mascot - Mr Peanut - leads his fellow animated snacks through various scenarios in a manner that feels unsettlingly trippy. We like the uncertain reactions of the cast, while “Grab our handsome nuts” merits a chuckle.

British Gas
"12 Days"
30s
18 Dec 2016
Wilbur the penguin explores a house to the tune of 'The 12 Days of Christmas', whose lyrics have been suitably changed to big up British Gas. There are some sweet little details such as the stocking he hangs up shaped like his own foot; but the strangely flat delivery and clunky rhymes detract a bit from the appealingly cosy animation.

British Gas and Hive ensure this family enjoys turning on the Christmas lights together - even though dad is nearly 1,500 miles away in Norway. Thanks to Hive's remote control features, he's able to turn his home into a luminous Arcadia for young Charlie... though we suspect he might have to work an extra month to pay for such an extravaganza.

Argos
"Trampoline"
30s
20 Nov 2016
Argos remind us it's not just boxers that enjoy a good bounce - yetis do too. This latest parody of the John Lewis Christmas ad features a pink yeti enjoying its own trampoline. Maybe it's the restrained piano riff, but there's something oddly poignant about watching a fluorescent snow ape jumping up and down. Now there's a sentence we never thought we'd write.

Argos
"Yetis"

Argos categorically settle the question of whether or not yetis exist with their colourful Christmas ad. In fact, the retailer lets five of the mythical beasts loose. Ice skates on, they navigate the snowy streets picking up all manner of festive tech, toys, and treats along the way. Despite their bulk, the Abominable Snowmen prove to be rather nifty skiers... even when a fleet of BB-8s roll with them.

Talk Talk
"Boys"

1 Nov 2016
More languid domesticity from Talk Talk as a teenager lounges on her bed. Whatever's on the telly, she doesn't seem enthralled by it. A beep from her phone grabs her attention though - and a subtle smile appears. Thanks to the mobile provider's data plan, she can tune in to the important stuff... like, erm, talking to boys.

Talk Talk
"Work From Home"
30s
25 Oct 2016
Another ad from Talk Talk's fly on the wall campaign, this time showing the importance of having good data access when you work from home. Especially for this young man, who needs to take care of business while simultaneously taking care of other, er, pressing matters. This ad is a step up from their last outing, bringing back touches of humour from the longer film.

Talk Talk
"Aunt Julie"
30s
18 Oct 2016
Talk Talk continue with their drive for authenticity in this short clip following the style of their 'This Stuff Matters' film. The ad features a young girl teaching her Aunt Julie how to save emails to her tablet, because - as we know - everybody over the age of twenty tends to accuse new technology of being witchcraft. At least they've got enough data to have another go if Aunt Julie gets confused.

Argos

This ad from Argos is as innovative as it is colourful, showing deliveries made with a bit more oomph than you might expect. Not your typical high-street ad, the choreography is fun without being slapstick, and the comic, colour-coordinated customers are a lovely visual touch. DAVID might have to order something if the same-day delivery comes complete with acrobatics like that.

Talk Talk demonstrate the value of authenticity in this fly-on-the-wall style ad. The product's role is subtle enough to blend unnoticed into the scenes until it's revealed what's being advertised, which leaves the viewer with a feeling of honesty about the company. 9 Merwick Street is an ordinary household that deserves extraordinary data access, and Talk Talk does a stellar job of showing us that without saying a word.

"X Factor Idents"
37s
29 Aug 2016
Afte last year's cyber attack put Talk Talk into an even more painful situation than an X Factor audition, the telecom company kick off their sponsorship of the new series with idents inspired by image messaging filters. Encouraging wannabe singers to upload their own exaggerated karaoke sessions, the work appeals to viewers who never pass up the chance to indulge in some cartoonish phone antics.

iD Mobile
"Blind Fighter pt3: Fighting Blind"
33s
25 Aug 2016
The final part of this short film for iD Mobile gives us a feel for what blind martial artist Lee Hoy experiences in the ring. Unable to see more than the outline of his opponent, he has to quell an almost overwhelming terror: it's like a very angry grizzly is looming out of twilight fog in front of you and having to stand your ground. But if he overcomes this, adrenalin kicks in... and he frequently wins.

"Blind Fighter pt2: Hard Knocks"
34s
25 Aug 2016
In part two of this branded content for iD Mobile, blind fighter Lee Hoy reveals the problems his sightlessness causes in the ring. Initially, he is conscious that his opponent is sighted and has a big advantage over him because he can anticipate in a way Hoy can't. But when Hoy makes contact, that instinctive sense of proprioception kicks in and he knows exactly where to place his blows.

iD Mobile
"Blind Fighter pt1: Hitting Back"
47s
25 Aug 2016
This three-part branded content film for iD Mobile asserts that nothing should hold you back from the goals you want to achieve. We're introduced to Lee Hoy: a fighter who has been blind from birth but who has beaten the odds to become a mixed martial artist. His sheer determination and focus is hugely inspirational.

British Gas
"Free Electricity"
30s
3 Jul 2016
Dual Fuel customers of British Gas can look forward to free electricity from nine to five at weekends if they've got a Smart Meter. To demonstrate this, Wilbur eagerly watches the clock so that as the family start their domestic chores he can turn it into an opportunity for free entertainment. Boston's 'More Than A Feeling' adds a nicely cheesy touch.

Lexus
"Channel 4 Drama"
80s
30 Jun 2016
This new series of bumpers by Lexus in support of Channel 4 improves on last year's cryptic selection by linking strongly to the car manufacturer's recent advertising strand. RSA's Rob Blishen crafts some bite-sized thrillers which would normally command any crowd's attention... only the Lexus NX has other ideas. Each well-shot scenario draws the viewer in before the advertised vehicle takes the spotlight.

Literacy Partners
"What Kids Read"
65s
22 Jun 2016
This clever and intriguing film for Literacy Partners puts a new slant on the importance of knowing how to read. At first, our assumption is that without being able to decipher the letters on a prescription tub or a bottle of drain cleaner, these youngsters' lives could be in danger. But that isn't where this is taking us.

Lexus
"Eye-Catching"
30s
18 Jun 2016
A big gold car catches the eye of various well-heeled young professionals in this spot for Lexus. Given that it's the automotive equivalent of those ID bracelets so beloved of middle aged men in the 80s, it's hard to imagine their glances would be at all covetous. The bland soundtrack confirms all our suspicions that the brand is gunning for mid-life-crisis types who believe that more is more.

Green Flag
"Seagull"

15 Jun 2016
When a car breaks down beside the port, its passengers worry that they're not going to make the next ferry in this new spot for Green Flag. One of their members is, however, confident he can fix the problem... but a bag of crisps and a seagull later, he returns to his seat suitably chastened. Brings a whole new meaning to acting on a wing and a prayer.

"Mud"

Green Flag's campaign focusing on awkward breakdowns now turns to the over-confident passengers seeking their hero moment. Despite their car being stuck in a quagmire, this dad is certain his magic touch can help rescue the family from their predicament - only for his efforts result in an early bath of the muddy variety. Still, it provides some welcome in-car entertainment before the green cavalry arrives.

The Prince's Trust
"Parallel Lives"
90s
11 Jun 2016
It's difficult to recall a more effective use of split-screen than that seen in this admirably restrained film highlighting the role of The Prince's Trust in guiding young people away from potential disastrous lifestyle choices. The parallel lives it depicts belong to a young woman living in a high rise. In one version of her life, she eagerly awaits the arrival of a young man on whom she has pinned her highest romantic hopes. In the other, she faces the dismal prospect of being paid for sex.

iD Mobile
"Poetic Pilgrimage"
35s
5 Jun 2016
In its first series of online advertising, iD mobile set out its individuality by focusing on the unlikely horsemen of North Philadelphia. Now, they turn their attention to a pair of Muslim women who have formed a rap partnership. This is so unlikely that it has a hint of Brass Eye about it and - even though you half expect Chris Morris to jump out and laugh at you for believing it - it's an exceptionally engaging introduction to the duo.

Argos
"Drones"
30s
13 May 2016
Friend's Tim & Joe must have felt like two kids with keys to the drone factory in this zippy ad for Argos. It seems the retailer have plenty of televisions to satisfy this summer's viewing schedules, so they're used as colourful signposts for these competing flying machines. It's an elaborate way of communicating a now familiar message, though the drone pilots earn their wings on this occasion.

Another of the films celebrating the existence of the Fletcher Street Riding Club by Rogue's Tom Barbor-Might. Here a variety of voices involved with this extraordinary project explain how caring for horses helps to keep young men away from gang violence. As with the other work in his series, this has been beautifully filmed.
