giffgaff tap into the trend for instant reactions to TV shows with these fresh E4 sponsorship bumpers. The visuals possess the same madcap energy as last year’s crop, while each ident is dotted with clever references to programmes such as Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Mind you, each comment must be subject to approval first - after all, we all know what Twitter can be like.

giffgaff's grip on Halloween tightens with another fitting tribute to the spookiest time of the year. It's been a shrewd investment by the mobile phone service provider as it's enabled them to establish a degree of ownership of an event which has increasing importance to their target market.

giffgaff is an advertising earworm that's been wriggling its way into the collective consciousness of the British public over the last few years. It has very successfully established its core principles with its earlier advertising while allowing the proposition itself to be somewhat nebulous. The arc of their communication has gradually shifted to clarify the offer and this - their latest commercial - sees their proposition solidify into something which demands our attention.

giffgaff have created a mad universe all of their own for this series of bumpers made to advertise their sponsorship of "entertainment on E4". They are infused with a strange anarchy designed to help the brand position itself as the counter-culture alternative to the big telecommunications companies.

Halloween has featured a lot this year, and giffgaff are the latest brand to put us through the ringer. Through the eyes of an unlucky mobile customer, we experience a haunted house inhabited by a distinctly modern collection of horrors picked by giffgaff users. It's an enjoyable ghost train of an ad from director Ninian Doff as our unseen protagonist is besieged from all sides.

giffgaff are very clever at making big statements about their service... consistently making it clear that theirs is an alternative model which doesn't tie their customers to lengthy contracts. What they haven't managed to do so far is explain exactly how it works and - as impressive as each execution is - this absence grows ever more glaring.

giffgaff have got something going on after 8pm on Friday it would seem; and to lodge this in our minds we're treated to a ten-second teaser in which various bemused folk gaze skyward. The tail-end of a banner reading 'contract' appears briefly, so we can prime ourselves for the possibility that some kind of offer is going to be dangled in front of us.

Cadbury Puddles
"Bring Me Sunshine"
60s
18 May 2015
Fallon's latest offering for Cadbury offers further proof that the confectionery company has rediscovered the joy of joy. A stuffed toy duck attached to the grill of a lorry doesn't, it would seem, have much to be joyous about but it finds a way. Accompanied by Morecambe and Wise's rendition of 'Bring Me Sunshine', it begins to see moments of happiness reflected in the puddles it sees from its unedifying viewpoint.

Alzheimer's Society
"Fade"
50s
18 Mar 2015
This simple and touching film was commissioned specially to appear during the screening of 'Still Alice' - the recent Oscar-winning film that looks at the impact of Alzheimer's Disease. The words on the screen describing moments of social awkwardness dissolve into something much more serious, providing a powerful metaphor for the watching audience.

Ah, Halloween - a fertile source of inspiration in the world of advertising. We've had Ikea's take on The Shining - and now giffgaff is getting in on the act. In classic horror style, a young woman is fleeing from a chainsaw-wielding maniac... and we anticipate the worst when she stumbles and falls. However, all is not what it seems.

Things aren't getting better for the young man still living with his parents in the latest addition to this campaign for GiffGaff which has dad interrupting a gathering in the living room when he wanders in a state of semi-sleep and starts pissing into a dresser drawer. Time to move out and an allegory for people attached to mobile phone networks too... they should consider GiffGaff instead.

One of three ads in a campaign for Giff Gaff pointing out the disadvantages of not being in control of your environment. However, instead of simply telling you what you're missing out on, it demonstrates with one of those visual examples that you can never unsee. But what does everyone being the boss mean? That we all have an equal right to shag in a cupboard?

Um... we're not quite sure how to prepare you for this ad. Or indeed the other two ads in the campaign this comprises. Let's just say it points out that while some parental homes are cosy havens that you never really want to leave, others are deeply disturbing dwellings from which your best bet is to flee with your pants on fire straight into the office of your nearest therapist.

Skoda
"More Power"

26 Jul 2013
Visually, this cuts through other car advertising like a hot knife through butter, using souped-up symbols of suburbia to drive home (ahem) the idea that this ride is more powerful than it used to be. The slack-jawed admiration yielded from the people involved aren't necessarily the type you want to impress; and just because they recognise the car is more macho than any of their powerhoses, prams and ice cream vans it's not exactly a siren call to go out and purchase a new Octavia.

"Don't Be Scared"

29 May 2013
Teasers have been running all week for what promised to be a spectacular commercial and the zombie-ridden film that took over the whole of a C4 ad break didn't disappoint. A series of excellent gags slowly reveal that the walking dead aren't necessarily as frightening as they seem... much like the advertised service.

Orange
"Sweeney Goldspot"
65s
8 Aug 2012
The latest Goldspot ad for Orange is something of a return to form. Ray Winstone and Ben Drew turn up at a London pub in their roles as Regan and Carter in the rebooted version of The Sweeney but something is amiss. It couldn't be that they've found themselves in the midst of an Orange commercial, could it?

"Talking Heads"

19 Nov 2011
This attention-grabbing piece for Orange features two telephones shaped like human heads talking to one another. One explains to the other that he's received a free pair of "musical earmuffs" from the advertised mobile phone service provider. A winning formula.

"Popcorn"

26 Sep 2011
This is the longer version of the marvellous ad directed by Chris Palmer reinforcing Orange's connection with the cinema. An extension of the orange Wednesdays offer now allows punters to download movies and watch them at home and they're going to need a lot more popcorn.

"Popcorn"

15 Aug 2011
There's an invasion of popcorn as people watch movies in this ad which claims that the mobile phone provider is bringing the cinema experience to people in their homes (or tents). The music sounds like an orchestral version of one of the tracks from Pulp Fiction... which is a fitting choice.

A real return to form for a campaign that had started to look as though it was losing it's way. Jack Black plugs his forthcoming appearance in the title role of Gulliver's Travels by refusing to play along with Orange.

Orange
"Phone Fund"
30s
26 Jul 2010
Another in this excellent series for Orange which wryly explains the benefits of using the advertised mobile phone network. A woman climbs on to a bus as the sardonic voiceover reveals that she gets money towards a new phone each time she makes a call.

"Online Updates"

You have to love the way this campaign is willing to make fun of the very people it's trying to appeal to. In this execution, a man tries to get the balance right between constantly updating his status online and providing no information at all.

"Orange Wednesdays - Zombikini"
30s
12 Mar 2010
Another excellent commercial for Orange using a distinctive visual style that has the scenes cleverly rolling into one another. This ad has a man struggling to decide which of his friends he should take to the cinema with him using Orange's 2 for 1 deal.

Orange
"Magic Numbers"
30s

This utterly enchanting ad for Orange shows a woman struggling to decide which of her friends she should choose to be her magic number. The visual style combines with an excellent piece of voiceover work to make a commercial that's a great deal of fun.

Impressively, each of the ads in this series so far has had a distinctive twist... this one introduces to a group of young London friends whose energy is depicted as a moving ball of cloud. The girls explain how they are taking advantage of an Orange offer which enables them to get hold of gig tickets.
