Amazon Prime
"Busker"
30s
11 January 2017
UK Internet Based Services

In the same vein as 2016's 'Vicar and Imam' ad, this film features someone doing a good turn for a friend by ordering them a gift on Amazon Prime. This time a woman sees the busker opposite her food cart fail to make any money, so she orders him a pirate costume for his dog which instantly turns his luck around. The British public: consistently predictable in their passion for pooches.

Littlewoods
"Christmas Walk"
40s
3 Nov 2016
The Littlewoods Christmas ad encourages us to get some fresh air with attitude on Christmas Day. There's a lovely 'tooling up' sequence as everyone steps out the door in style. With their thick jackets, Beats headphones, and lightsabers, nothing can halt this festive swagger... until another family emerges from around the corner. Some textbook British awkwardness rounds off this entertaining effort.

Just-Eat
"Egg"
40s
16 Sep 2016
A sad half-cracked egg voiced by Bill Nighy leads a succession of people through their takeaway dreams in this new ad for Just-Eat. It's the latest in a series of changed approaches and the lack of a discernible strategy inevitably gives rise to the possibility of client chaos. But - however they got here - this works.

Sainsbury's
"Easter Lamb"
30s
14 Mar 2016
Second only to the Christmas turkey in the realm of high-stakes roasting, a bold spin on an Easter roast is not for the faint of heart. Subtly adventurous sorts they are, Sainsbury's suggest it needn't require a journey to exotic lands in search of nostril-overloading spices - all it takes is a bottle of ginger beer to give lamb that special kick before the family sit down to eat.

McDonald's
"Eggs"
40s
15 Jan 2016
McDonald's once again turn MythBusters as they attempt to crack a few preconceptions about the ingredients on their menu. Jen wonders if the egg in her Egg McMuffin is the genuine article, but while manufactured egg tubes would make Phoebe the egg cracker's life a whole lot easier, this ad explains that's not what McDonald's are about. Another confident insight into the brand's food chain.

McDonald's
"McNuggets"
40s
27 Sep 2015
Another bold ad tackling the received wisdoms about items on the menu at McDonald's sees a mother imagining the nightmarish provenance of chicken McNuggets. Mad scientists and giant mechanical chickens! The sneaky inclusion of mush and slime and beaks! Fortunately, 'food tech' teacher - and mum - Rosie is on hand to reassure us all about their wholesomeness.

McDonald's
"Fries"
40s
27 Sep 2015
McDonald's is busy debunking myths in this spot about their fries. Contrary to popular belief and apocryphal tales, the fries aren't grown artificially; neither are they cooked in a way that takes them off the menu for vegetarians. Indeed, farmer Terry knows his onions when it comes to spuds and he can vouch for it that "no weird stuff" goes on in the making of them. It's brave and interesting for McDonald's to tackle this aspect of their image head on.

Pilgrims Choice
"Viewers' Choice"
30s
15 Jul 2015
We're back in the Pilgrims Choice factory and the viewer votes are in. Seems there are still a few ravers knocking about the place as '90s Nostalgia' was the most popular option in their 'Choose a Choon' promotion. We're then treated to a blast of Ya Programme's 'Ultra Lust' as subtitles playfully inform us this is what happens when people are asked to vote for something via the Interweb.

Pilgrims Choice
"Well Chosen"
30s
1 Jun 2015
Pilgrims Choice returns to our screens with an entertaining musical number that comes with a fun piece of online functionality. By watching the ad on YouTube, viewers can pick from a disparate range of musical genres for the cheese factory's party. Desktop DJs can then vote for their favourite tune and the winning pick will accompany an upcoming ad.

McDonald's
"The Cow"
60s
15 May 2015
This spot for McDonald's manages to address tricky issues like meat provenance with total charm and directness. It even invokes the law to reassure us that it can't just say any old thing in a commercial, just in case we're still suspicious. So if our idea of the type of cow the fast food retailer uses is more like the spotty, lumpy, purple thing of young Laura's imagination, we can think again.

Halifax
"Charlie Clark"
60s
19 Apr 2015
Little Charlie Clark doesn't do things by halves in this terrific new Halifax ad. Indeed, he likes to go the extra mile in everything he does, from pedalling his tiny bike off a home-made ramp to the amount of ketchup he can pour on his food. So he's just the type of child the bank wants - because no doubt he'll appreciate the extra benefits that's made them 'Best Children's Account Provider 2015'

Tesco
"Cheese"
20s
9 Dec 2014
Lovely ad, this - while two women sit and talk at a festive dinner party, their tongues no doubt loosened by port, a chap in a nice pully sits quite happily between them eating from the cheeseboard. The VO tells us that it's an aged cheese he's focusing on, and it's best sampled bit by bit... which he duly does... again and again.

Tesco
"Christmas Dinner "
30s
2 Dec 2014
Interesting - Tesco has gone for an overhead table shot, as has Sainsbury's this Christmas. This one's less dressy and more homely and there's a lovely warmth in the build-up to the arrival of the most important dish of the day. Nice touch to have a potential disaster averted, too - bad enough when it's just the brandy butter.

Tesco
"Mince Pies"
20s
24 Nov 2014
A dozing dad in a Santa hat isn't aware that there's a yummy Tesco mince pie balanced on his tum as he slumbers. It's a cosy, sleepy kind of ad that taps into the way we imagine feeling when - if - we get a little time out at Christmas; and invites us to see that Corvoisier-laced treat as the perfect accompaniment to our slothful contentment.

Tesco
"Christmas"
60s
9 Nov 2014
There are some lovely visual moments in Tesco's Christmas ad - the multiple reflections of the chap opening a box of baubles instore; the little girl's nose squished against the glass as dad decorates the outside of the house; and we like the effect of a brass band playing a homely version of What A Feeling. So let's get our lights out and our hats on as ordered and start feeling our way into the festive season.

Virgin Media
"Freedom"
40s
2 Jun 2014
A smart move to take David Tennant and Mr B out onto the open road away from the static awkwardness of the studio. This visually arresting spot has Tennant explaining the new, very versatile bundles offered by Virgin Media (though how simple they'll prove to be is another story). Most impressively, Richard Branson manages a full-throated "Whooooooo!" of enthusiasm at the end - a first ever, we imagine.

Halifax
"Vicky Harris"
60s
18 May 2014
This is a lovely campaign, and this could quite possibly be our favourite spot so far. It tells the story of Vicky the intrepid photographer who can charm the leaves from the trees - or at least, the shy from their shells - and doesn't mind getting herself into deep water if it means getting the shot she wants. These are terrific depictions of everyday people we'd be happy to be counted among; which gives us a feeling of goodwill towards the bank that so astutely recognises them.

Halifax
"Gavin Gates"
30s
5 May 2014
Gavin Gates (not to be confused with the ex-X Factor Gareth Gates) is a big bear of a man, who does house removals for a living. Good-naturedly he takes care of fragile items and triceratops alike; and goes to the Halifax when he wants a mortgage for the time when he decides to move home himself. Nicely done with understated humour and real warmth.

Halifax
"Holiday Dad"
60s
9 Mar 2014
This campaign goes from strength to strength, and the latest celebration of ordinary heroism may be the best yet with a wonderfully cast 'Dad' having his mettle tested by all that life throws at him. It's a terrific depiction that manages to incorporate every positive aspect of modern fatherhood... something advertising is getting rather good at after years of portraying men as bumbling buffoons.

travelsupermarket.com
"Holiday v Holiday"
30s
7 Jan 2013
An archetypal Spanish woman takes on a stereotypical Turk in this tongue-in-cheek ad for the holiday comparison site. The idea that you can realistically compare two such different destinations may be illusory but the beach volleyball contest commands the attention and drills home the intended communication.

Phones 4 U
"Brothers"
20s
26 Nov 2012
Another commercial in this excellent series for Phones 4 U has a pair of twins who are uncertain what to buy one another. The solution – as usual – is to purchase a new handset from the advertised retailer and they both react favourably to this prospect. Simple, fun and, we suspect, effective.

Phones 4 U
"Lingerie"
20s
22 Nov 2012
A man stood in a lingerie shop is puzzled by the options available to him so he's delighted to learn that he can buy a gift from Phones 4 U instead. And as with the underwear he's holding in his hands, he'll have a choice between pink and white when it comes to mobile phone handsets as well. Winning stuff.

Phones 4 U
"Christmas Gifts For Everyone"
40s
4 Nov 2012
Another deliciously over-the-top series of vignettes for the mobile phone retailer who promise they have a phone for everyone. This is an advertiser who have bravely sought a distinctive voice for several years... this campaign provides it in spades and we suspect it provides them with a lot of custom in a tough market.

Phones 4 U
"White"
20s
17 Oct 2012
The hysterical style of the previous commercials is used to good effect once again in this ad which has a man decked entirely in white asking if the advertised retailer has a phone that suit his needs... the overblown voiceover artist anticipates his enquiry and lets him know about the all-white Samsung Galaxy.

Coke Zero
"007"
60s
14 Sep 2012
This immensely fun commercial Coke Zero promotes competition related to the forthcoming James Bond movie. Each of the protagonists hums parts of the movie franchise's famous theme music as they become embroiled in an increasingly unlikely chain of events which culminate in a Bond style rescue.
