Land Rover
"Night Sounds"

UK Cars

The creatures of the night come out to play in this sensory treat for Land Rover. Beautifully shot by Gorgeous’s Chris Palmer and DP Barry Ackroyd, even nature can’t resist a gander at the new Range Rover Velar.

It’s a disorientating start: the viewer’s eyes frantically adjust to the pitch blackness, ears transported to a forest with equal intensity. Predators lurk in the shadows, but even they know they’re outmuscled by the four-wheeled visitor. Try telling that porcupine to shift, though.

Some may think they’ve stumbled on an episode of Planet Earth by mistake. After the CGI animal ark we saw last Christmas, these seem to the real deal. Minimalist lighting ensures each subtle twitch and glint in the eye is a nocturnal luxury.

Meanwhile, James Saunders’s sound design ensures complete immersion. From a deer’s tentative steps on the forest floor to bats squeaking like a hanging choir, each noise is skilfully pitched. The porcupine’s final indignant reaction is a lovely beat.

We’ve seen the brand flirt with the wild side many times before, but this is a far more refined and intoxicating execution. The Velar’s sleek design speaks for itself before a final explosion of sound. Man-made, yet elevated by nature.

Cadbury
"Big Taste"
30s
9 May 2016
While Cadbury's new campaign has garnered some reasonable chuckles from animal antics plucked from YouTube, it's fair to say it hasn't really forged an identity all of its own until now. Thanks to one man and his dog, the chocolate makers have an ad that is resoundingly Cadbury. What you see is what you get: a grizzled biker with a pooch riding along in the sidecar.

Heineken
"The Chase"
90s
21 Sep 2015
Daniel Craig plays second fiddle to a young woman on a pair of waterskis in W+K Amsterdam's Heineken swansong, and it's a fantastic way to bow out. Craig makes good his escape from a gang of villains in a Mediterranean fishing village by jumping into a motor boat but doesn't realised it was being prepared for a jaunty bit of water sports.

O2
"Wagging Tails"
60s
27 Jun 2015
This creates the impression that the whole thing is one continuous shot, and even though some of the joins are easy to spot it's still impressively done - the fluidity of movement really captures and keeps the attention. The people who've taken advantage of their connection to O2 to secure special deals and priority tickets are easily spotted because their tails are wagging.

Subway
"Stay Picky"
30s
21 May 2015
Picky Patty has a thing about footwear and especially doesn't like winklepickers. So when her date arrives sporting a pair, she can't think about anything else. As the night progresses, they assume crazy proportions in her mind's eye... but while she can't control her chap's dress sense, she can control the toppings she wants on her subway meal. Oh well, one out of two's not so bad, we suppose.

Thunderhead
"The Thunderhead Way"
2 mins
20 Apr 2015
This ad is astonishing. No really, it is. DAVID never thought he'd see a scene like this in a broadcast commercial ever... but here it is. This bold, beautiful bonkers spot is truly epic: a mini-film that delivers the computer software you've always dreamed of in the form of a tattooed superhero. But this vast, muscular man doesn't behave in the way you'd expect the lovechild of Mad Max and Thor to behave. Oh no, no, no.

Three
"Dave & Sherri"
60s
4 Feb 2015
Dave and Sherri have been to the Grand Canyon. They drove. They used their phones to call and text the fact to everyone at no extra cost, because they're Three customers. Did we mention they've been to the Grand Canyon? No, we didn't. Dave and Sherri did. They drove there, to the Grand Canyon. That's right, the Grand Canyon. The Grand - oh, shut up, Dave and Sherri. Just shut up.

Three
"Surfers"
60s
17 Jan 2015
A trio of unlikely surfer dudes recount their tales of derring-do while we learn that they were able to take advantage of Three's picture messaging generosity to send proof of their exploits to their jealous friends back home. The problem with this proposition is that the target audience is actually quite savvy and would tend to use other means for sending their photos, so the offer isn't that impressive to them.

Kia
"Here's To You"
30s
18 Oct 2013
It doesn't matter if, as a bloke, you're rubbish at navigating your way through life or, as a woman, you can't park without assistance (hmm). With a car from Kia, your inadequacies are irrelevant because all those potential vehicular scrapes you could get into are covered for seven years.

Diet Coke
"Gardener"
60s
28 Jan 2013
The iconic Diet Coke campaign is back and it's bigger and cheekier than ever. Neil Dawson and Clive Pickering of BETC obviously realised it wasn't going to be enough to just retread the old template so they've ramped it up... the advertised drink positively ejaculates over our hero after some picnicking women roll him a can.

Diet Coke
"Teaser"
20s
23 Jan 2013
Twenty or so years after the idea of gawping at a half-naked man was used to sell Diet Coke, this highly successful concept is back. On Monday morning at 11.30, the soft drinks company is hoping the whole nation will take a Diet Coke break and enjoy the sight of a hunky fellow being ogled by secretarial types.

Kellogg's Crunchy Nut
"Dinosaur"
40s
8 Oct 2012
There are obvious echoes of Jurassic Park in this ad for Kellogg's Crunchy Nut focusing on the product's irresistibility. Two young men are subjected to a terrifying ordeal as a dinosaur searches for them in a canteen kitchen and it's clear that they need to be as quiet as possible. Guess what happens next.

Heineken
"Crack The Case"
60s
27 Sep 2012
It's a case of mistaken identity as an innocent bystander is inadvertently swept into James Bond's world of espionage. Luckily, our hero has a few tricks up his sleeve and he's more than able to hold his own as he looks to escape the villains aboard a train making its way across a snow-covered landscape. Startling stuff.

Currys
"Vader's Visit"
40s
5 Nov 2011
Training at Currys PC World is being guided by Darth Vader according to this ad which, like last year's Christmas ad, delves into Star Wars iconography. Vader's involvement certainly explains the staff's tough approach to selling extended warranties.

Land Rover Range Rover
"Loud City"
30s
20 Sep 2011
If Loud City isn't Las Vegas then we don't know what it is. Anyway, the strange sights and sounds of the desert city provide a handy backdrop for the understated charm of the advertised car. The claim translates as: "expensive without looking expensive".

Cheestrings
"Beach Arrival"
30s
26 Sep 2010
The advertised product emerges from the ocean like a character from a Bond movie in this amusing ad for the vaguely dairy product. He stands like Daniel Craig in his bathing trunks and shakes his cheesy locks in front of the baffled sun-bathers.

Electrolux
"Table"
60s
21 Apr 2010
A colourful Swedish commercial directed by RSA's Mehdi Norowzian demonstrates that it's possible to conjure up more than mere food using the advertised company's appliances. Though we suspect that the suggestion that you can rustle up a dinosaur isn't literal.

Weedol
"Weed Attack"
30s
1 Apr 2010
This commercial has been made to look like a 1960s horror movie and achieves a sufficient degree of authenticity to make it good fun. The inhabitants of small town America are grateful for the advertised product when they are attacked by a giant killer weed.

Miracle-Gro
"Bald Patch"
30s
1 Apr 2010
You can tell that spring is on the way because we're starting to see commercials for lawn treatments. Having established how effective the advertised product is at dealing with bare patches on lawns, a woman considers trying it on her husband's bald head.

DVLA
"Crush"
10s
25 Jan 2010
The threat broadcast in the first film is carried out in this short postscript as the small yellow sports car with the doleful expression is grabbed roughly by a crane at a scrapyard and faces up to imminent destruction.

DVLA
"Doleful Car"
30s
25 Jan 2010
A woman voices the thoughts of a doleful yellow sports car as it explains how it feels unloved because its owner has neglected to update its road tax. Apparently, it used to be a big part of his life but, alas, no more and soon it may be headed for the scrapheap.

DVLA
"Just Sat There"
30s
4 Jan 2010
From outside his house, the camera slowly closes in on a man sat in his living room as we hear a voice complaining about his inertia. The voice, it turns out, belongs to his car who wants him to renew his road tax online while he's busy doing nothing.

Schweppes
"Tree"
10s
16 Dec 2009
Another of this winning series for the Schweppes has the familiar protagonists in another piece of clever horseplay. As hubby looks on, wifey wonders what's wrong with her Christmas tree. It might be a bit two-dimensional, luv.

Schweppes
"She'll Love It"
10s
24 Nov 2009
Another in this excellent series using an innovative technique. In this one, the 1950s wife complains to her husband about the lack of attention he pays to what she says and he replies in a fashion which suggests he's guilty as charged.

Schweppes
"Mistletoe"
10s
23 Nov 2009
This charming short for Schweppes uses a clever technique to bring life to a vintage scene. Arms have been put through a flat image to enable two characters to interact with one another. In this ad they mess about with mistletoe.
