IKEA
"Win At Sleeping"

UK Furniture Retailers

Ikea turn the struggle to get a good night's sleep into a competitive sport in this rousing ad. Featuring the persuasive vocal stylings of former sports coach and current motivational speaker Derrick Moore, sleepers are framed as athletes gearing up for the biggest test of their careers: eight full hours.

The small details are particularly satisfying here: including the 'Snoozin' Jo' boxer-style robe, careful selection of appropriate footwear (slippers), and night cream applied in the manner of warpaint. The final shots of determined sleepers launching themselves into bed are akin to crossing the finish line: presented in triumphant slow motion as they victoriously drift off into dreamland. Medals all round.

Lurpak
"Game On, Cooks"
60s
22 Sep 2016
Has cooking become too much of a spectator sport? Lurpak thinks so, and the brand makes a bold move by telling viewers to switch their attention from telly to belly. Lurpak being Lurpak, they've done a first-rate job. Somesuch's Daniel Wolfe meets this campaign's exacting standards head on with a brilliant execution. Once the game begins, it's something to behold.

Audi Quattro
"Everyday Extremes"
60s
17 Jul 2016
The best of Audi's advertising tends to focus on the car as an object of desire, serving it up in a fashion designed to give petrolheads an erotic experience. The emphasis is different here but it retains an important element of the other approach... a intensely visceral soundtrack. The bass guitar riff from the 'Are You Being Served?' theme music provides an excellent sound bed to which String & Tins's Will Cohen has added an appropriate array of other noises to give this after-hours exploration of a department store real vim.

Radox
"Emo"
60s
4 Jul 2016
We almost expected Kopparberg's dancing brewery worker to make an appearance in this entertaining Radox commercial, but the spotlight deservedly belongs to this twinkle-toed emo. While her long-suffering parents must have anticipated another day of silence from their black and purple-clad offspring, the protagonist emerges from her bedroom with a considerable spring in her step.

Halifax
"The Flintstones"
60s
7 Jun 2016
Halifax once again raid the Hanna-Barbera vaults with due care and affection as Fred and WIlma Flintstone decide to switch to a bank with a twenty-first century approach to customer service. Despite an inauspicious encounter with the branch's see-through door, Fred quickly warms to the affable adviser who details the bank's £125 welcome bonus for switchers.

Vita Coco
"Karaoke"
60s
23 May 2016
There's a myriad of ways for you to work up a sweat, be it through exercise, physical labour, or mental exertion. Eventually, you're giving it your all on a beach hut karaoke stage, and it's this unlikely scenario which Vita Coco pitches as the ideal situation for some life-restoring coconut water. It's fair to say a mustachioed Frenchman giving a creative rendition of Celine Dion's 'It's All Coming Back To Me Now' is an oddity, but it's an enjoyable one.

Three
"Before Dawn"
60s
13 May 2016
Jackson and Will.i.am. turn up as tech-tastic cowboys riding at the gates of dawn in this new spot for Three. The singer and Voice judge has a fashion and technology brand called i.am+, which has developed a voice-activated watch available exclusively through the mobile network, and here the pair ride through the purple-hued night spreading the news to kids out way past their bedtime.

Halifax
"Top Cat"
60s
22 Apr 2016
Halifax have turned to Hanna-Barbera's cult classic Top Cat to help them demonstrate that they're thoroughly decent when it comes to lending money for mortgages. The mischievous feline uses a sob story to gain the sympathy of the Halifax staffer helping with his application, though - it has to be said - it's hard to win over an algorithm and human decision-making has all but been eliminated from the mortgage application process these days!

Channel 4
"Alan Carr"
40s
19 Apr 2016
There's more pep to this edition of 'Chewing the Fat with Underdog' thanks to chat show host Alan Carr becoming the interviewee for a change. While he describes his career trajectory at Channel 4, Underdog shows canines do indeed dream as he imagines life as Carr's replacement. Alas, no amount of doggy kibble will turn this interview around.

Hennessy
"A New Further"
90s
18 Apr 2016
This stirring ad for Hennessy tells the story of two generations of the Piccard family - a clan seemingly destined to chart the great unknown. Before we have to get our bearings, we're propelled into the heavens as Auguste Piccard begins his historic flight up, up, and up in 1931 before son Jacques begins his own record-breaking expedition.

Channel 4
"21 Seconds"
40s
13 Apr 2016
This isn't our favourite C4 promo work but - to be fair - that's a high bar. In this execution of a series featuring the chat-show canine, the dogged host challenges guest Ashley Walters to extol the station's benefits in 21 seconds - a nod to the actor's So Solid Crew days. It feels like it's at least one joke too far from its original premise.

Channel 4
"Greg Davies"
40s
24 Mar 2016
Both Greg Davies and Underdog seem at a loss in this latest spot for Channel 4. Davies pretends to be ill-at-ease as he tries to talk about the impact his breakthrough had on him because Underdog has put an image in his mind that he can't shake. The in-joke has been taken a bit too far this time and the edginess seems a bit too real.

Channel 4
"Jonnie Peacock"
40s
22 Mar 2016
We get an extended glimpse at Underdog's one-to-one interviewing technique in another fun Channel 4 ad. His latest guest on 'Chewing the Fat' is Paralympic gold medallist Jonnie Peacock, and while Peacock is keen to praise the broadcaster's public support of athletes like him, Underdog's canine instincts overrides his journalistic ones when faced with an artificial leg.

Channel 4
"More Chewing The Fat"
60s
23 Mar 2016
Jonathan Ross will no doubt be wishing he could pull such an impressive roster of guests as the one Underdog enjoys. Channel 4's dog-in-residence continues to amuse and bemuse contributors such as Thomas Turgoose, Michaela Coel, and Ashley Walters (who's given an amusing reminder of his So Solid Crew days). It's not all plain sailing though - chat show veteran Alan Carr does a Bee Gees and storms off.

"Chewing the Fat with Underdog"
60s
11 Mar 2016
Channel 4's Flea Street reporter must have a good agent as he's now landed his own prime time chat show. The topic of conversation is once again Channel 4's open-minded reputation, while the inquisitive pooch's guests include Jon Snow, Anne-Marie Duff, and Rob Delaney - though the host's mind does tend to wander. Plenty of amusing set gags keep the entertainment value of this idea strong.

Asda
"Lights"
30s
28 Nov 2015
Another iconically cheesy track from the '80s makes this terrific spot for Asda. While Jennifer Rush does it for puppy love in a companion ad, Europe's 'The Final Countdown' is the perfect accompaniment to one family's exuberant Christmas mood as they drive home in a car that is fairy light-tastic; replete with a dancing reindeer on the roof. Are they satisfied with this? Watch and see.

Asda
"Wool-Clad Dogs"
30s
22 Nov 2015
The little dog with the antlers who was just a bit player in an earlier ad now takes centre stage in this wonderful bit of daftness for Asda. With a nod to the main campaign's hashtag theme, it features him bounding across a snow-dusted field to Jennifer Rush's 80s ballad 'The Power of Love'... as he encounters a cute girl pug in the same headgear.

Marks & Spencer
"The Art of Christmas"
90s
8 Nov 2015
Having spent all autumn giving us lessons in various arts from comfort to luxury and texture to tailoring, Marks & Spencer evidently feel we're ready for the full-on, whizz-bang razzle-dazzle art of Christmas. Taking in everything from clothes for all to food, home furnishings and a host of accessories, it's packed to the gills with party season spirit.

Asda
"Because It's Christmas"
60s
1 Nov 2015
Asda's Christmas communication has not been without controversy in recent years and you have to suspect they were determined to create a trouble-free piece of communication with an unambiguous emphasis on fun in the lead-up to the annual spendfest... and they've certainly delivered on that aim with this splendid commercial.

Easyjet
"How 20 Years Have Flown"
60s
21 Sep 2015
This lovely spot for EasyJet takes us to life's funfair and shows us that the more things change, the more they stay the same. In other words, each generation experiences broadly the same cycle of meeting The One, settling down, having children, drifting apart, only to rediscover each other when the fledglings have flown the nest.

Tango
"Boo Tang Enhancer"
3 mins 20s
16 Jul 2015
This campaign has really established itself quickly, and the online clips which spoof channels like QVC are terrific. This is our favourite for its sublime blend of ridiculousness and authenticity. The spot-on casting makes the discussion of the 'Boo Tang Enhancement Package' even funnier ("I have a similar box at home and I keep cheese in it.") - the yawning chasms of awkward silences plastered

Three
"Oh Tom"
20s
7 Jul 2015
Jackson the muppet continues his tireless quest to make everything all right in the world. In this fun encounter, he has to persuade a doubtful customer as to Three's reliability. Along with his trademark enthusiasm, he has the stats to back it up by way of a YouGov poll. Another effective scenario and one that'll make viewers wish Jackson would pay them a visit.

Three
"Beach Selfie"
20s
3 Jul 2015
Pete's doing 'duck face on the beach' according to the brand's familiar Muppet in another amusing instalment in this winning campaign. The real purpose of this communication - which is something about using your mobile phones inexpensively when abroad - gets a little bit lost in all the frivolity, but it's got a singing Muppet so who cares.

Three
"Katie in the Café"
20s
23 Jun 2015
A sweet reprise for the muppet who appeared in a spectacular commercial earlier this month. He reminds us that 3's 4G network will enable you to enjoy fast-streaming wherever you are. There's something rather delightful about the look on Katie's face when she joins in the chanting at the end and we'd definitely like to see the outtakes.

Tango
"Five Stages of Tang"
30s
13 Jun 2015
The new Tango campaign has very quickly found its feet and this terrific addition has Rodney getting very excited when discovering that he's able to achieve the five stages of tang. Long suffering wife Steph (we've only seen her back twice but we already know what she has to put up with) shushes him when his excitement becomes to voluble.
