Waitrose
"Cheese"
20s
12 December 2016
UK Supermarkets

A welcome return for Waitrose's elegant food campaign. This time, the supermarket entices us with some Vacherin cheese. The sound of cheese bubbling away is hard to resist. Before long, a slice of toast pierces the top layer and collects some of the oozing goodness beneath. An absence of VO or background music only enhances the experience.

Waitrose
"Bacon and Banana"

12 Dec 2016
Bonkers - sorry, experimental - chef Heston Blumenthal has concocted some unusual festive treats for Waitrose. If you're bored of bog-standard trifle you can bin the sherry and strawberry jelly and give bacon and banana a go. Better not spring this one on guests without warning, even if the food photography here does make the dessert look intriguing.

Waitrose
"Coming Home"

adam&eveDDB have created a greater synergy between John Lewis's and Waitrose's advertising this Christmas. It's just over a year since they took over the supermarket's account and because of the way they've implemented some of the strategy that has made their partnership with John Lewis so successful, the connection between the two seems ever more evident.

H & M
"The Road Trip"
5 mins 20s
29 Sep 2016
H & M's odd couple of David Beckham and Kevin Hart hit the road to Las Vegas... or ruin, more like. Seems like the latter has decided 'I, Beckham' would work better as a musical, and David is last to know as always. Once again identically dressed in the retailer's threads, the duo pick up from where they left off last year with two likeable performances.

Carte D'Or
"Dessert Play"
30s
29 Mar 2016
Carte D'Or is a brand many of us associate with uncool 80s names that briefly fooled us into thinking they were classy (its similarly-named peer Piat d'Or being another). Despite this heritage, it modestly plods on with well-crafted advertising like this helping to sustain its sales without threatening to elevate it to the next level.

H & M
"Trendsetter"
80s
8 Feb 2016
Having previously taken advantage of David Beckham's hitherto untapped comedic potential, H & M bring back the man in his capacity as someone - in the parlance of Derek Zoolander - really, really, ridiculously good looking. The ad has Becks hitting the town while wearing items from his Modern Essentials range. Turns out the whole town has the same idea.

John Lewis
"Tiny Dancer"
90s
21 Aug 2015
In a performance worthy of Abigail Breslin in Little Miss Sunshine, a young girl dances her heart out around the house. In her mind important folk from the Royal Ballet are secretly watching and whispering: "Who is this gifted creature? We must have her for our very own." In reality, she's merely fortunate to have parents with home insurance that indemnifies the resultsof her more enthusiastic moves.

Halifax
"Charlie Clark"
60s
19 Apr 2015
Little Charlie Clark doesn't do things by halves in this terrific new Halifax ad. Indeed, he likes to go the extra mile in everything he does, from pedalling his tiny bike off a home-made ramp to the amount of ketchup he can pour on his food. So he's just the type of child the bank wants - because no doubt he'll appreciate the extra benefits that's made them 'Best Children's Account Provider 2015'

Lastminute.com
"Valentine's"
53s
10 Feb 2015
Oooh... cheeky. lastminute.com want to remind us that Valentine's is the perfect moment to perform sex acts with your significant other in a series of exotic European locations. And what better way to serve this reminder way than to take us on an innuendo-laden tour of the various destinations on offer to us. Saucy and fun.

Maille
"Memorable Guest"
80s
1 Dec 2014
It takes a lot of skill to get something like this right - and this online spot for Maille mustard is balanced perfectly between excruciating and hilarious. A young dinner guest is drawn into conversation by the woman on his left, who, a propos of nothing, suddenly starts telling him way more than he could ever want to hear about her and her husband's sex life.

Sony Xperia
"Gliding Lights"
60s
30 Sep 2014
Eerily beautiful, Sony's latest Xperia ad yields up snowboarders, illuminated suits and a wooded mountainside at night. It's hard at first to see what's going on - in fact, you need to pay close attention to suss out what's happening - but it doesn't really matter: the flowing movements of the boarders and the hazy colour that envelops them is captivating enough to make you stop and stare.

HMRC
"Cash Back"
30s
31 Mar 2014
The government is giving away free money according to this commercial for an HMRC scheme that gives cashback on NI contributions. It's neatly illustrated via piles of coins showing up in unlikely fashion and will doubtless attract the attention of the usual suspects... companies whose sole purpose is to secure entitlements on others' behalf.

Warburtons
"Toasting Crumpets"
30s
12 Feb 2014
Julie Palmer writes to Mr Warburton to tell him how she vanquished the "cheap toaster" her husband was obsessed with heating crumpets in... by buying a bigger toaster. Hmm. That's rather like saying 'I put an end to my husband's affair with his secretary by setting him up with my two best friends.' Sadly, Julie seems to have missed the point that the toaster was just the facilitator - all she's really doing is fighting crumpet with more crumpet.

Warburtons
"Harry Morgan"
30s
3 Feb 2014
It's a nice conceit - the budding ladies' man tempting the fair maid with his pancake toppings while love rival Harry looks on. However, he is nothing if not determined and, as he triumphantly recounts to Jonathan Warburton, there's more than one way to skin a cat. Or top a pancake. The whole spot is very attractively filmed and our prepubescent Romeo is excellently cast.

BMW
"Vases"
1 min 45s
14 Nov 2013
If you're going to choose a second hand car, this ad tells us in no uncertain terms that a beamer's superior driving precision means you'd be a fool to opt for anything else. Especially if you have a penchant for driving between plinthes topped with vases - and let's face it, who doesn't?

Warburtons
"Payback"
40s
7 Oct 2013
Warburtons have turned out some terrific ads in the past, and here's a new one to add to the list. Long-suffering Sam Saunders writes to Mr Warburton about his bossy brother, but confesses that with the assistance of the brand's new Half & Half loaf, he can afford to play the long game.

Westons Cider
"The It Men"
60s
1 Jul 2013
You know an ad's a winner when it bears repeated viewing and you spot something fresh in it every time. This is one of those ads. An inspired use of the word 'press' in the strapline forms the concept - a group of men resolutely pressing on against all odds; with a determination that calls for the reward of a glass of Westons Stowfords.

Warburtons
"Uncle Hughie"
40s
4 Jan 2013
When a crumpet-adoring relative (so to speak) dies, his nephew writes to Warburtons to let them know how much his uncle loved their product. We see affectionate scenes of the old chap before hearing that he was also fond of the gee-gees and left the family nothing. They console themselves with crumpets, wryly reflecting that money isn't everything.

Warburtons
"Greg Jones"
40s
4 Jan 2013
Terrifying Greg Jones has been turned into a right old softy by the advertised bread and he doesn't care who knows it. In fact, he's taken the trouble to write to Jonathan Warburton - the company's chairman - to let him know how the bread has transformed his life. Must have been scary casting this one.

Warburtons
"Twins"
40s
5 Jan 2013
A mum describes her twin boys as though they are 'Midwich Cuckoos' in this ad for Warburtons in which she thanks the bread company for producing a loaf that enables her to get some healthy grain past her fussy youngsters. DAVID would be inclined to supply the charmless duo with stale crusts.

Radox
"Songs"
4 mins 45s
26 Oct 2012
This series of five films for Radox are part of an initiative that created an interactive experience for Facebook users. Anyone who remembers the short-lived craze for dancing plastic flowers in the 1980s may suffer a frisson of embarrassment on behalf of a whole generation as they watch this... what were we thinking?

BMW
"David Weir"
60s
6 Sep 2012
Paralympic athlete David Weir has provided some of the most memorable moments of the London games and this commercial for BMW highlighting how engineers have assisted the gold medallist is another excellent example of the positivity that's part and parcel of the communication attached to the Paralympics.

Sky Movies
"Kate Winslet"
40s
23 Mar 2012
It's funny how the presence of a major star in a television commercial always seems to result in a wistful performance. It's as if the enormity of securing the services of said celebrity tips the whole thing off balance in a bid to persuade the audience to share the wonder of it all.

Subway
"Biggest Loser Sponsorship"
80s
17 Jan 2012
We're experiencing an irony overload from learning that ITV's weight loss programme The Biggest Loser is sponsored by Subway. Having said that, it's probably quite a shrewd way of reinforcing the questionable idea that Subway is a healthy alternative to McDonald's and its ilk.

Mazda MX5
"71 Degrees North Sponsorship"
75s
11 Sep 2010
A series of bumpers advertising Mazda's sponsorship of 71 Degrees North augments the recent campaign which suggests that the car is so thrilling that you may need new forms of excitement once you've driven it. This is a proposition which might work even better for Toyota where you take your life into your hands every time you drive one.
