Virgin Active
"Go There"
30s
17 January 2017
UK Health Clubs / Gyms

There's a stylish mix of animation, CG, and live action in this energetic ad for Virgin Active. An upbeat soundtrack accompanies visuals of people making the most of their gym facilities, while the shots are enhanced by animated extensions of the action. We particularly like the classic video game sound effects and scores on the woman in the yellow shirt - having an HP bar at the gym would be great.

Samsung Gear
"Bungee"
37s
4 Jan 2017
This vertiginous ad from Samsung depicts a bungee jump in reverse. We follow a woman from just below the waterís surface back to her starting position. Looks like a scream, eh? As it turns out, she isnít actually perched a hundred-odd feet above a river - sheís in her living room wearing a VR headset.

Aviva
"Older Selves"
60s
1 Oct 2016
This could have been gimmicky in the wrong hands, but adam&eveDDB and Outsider's Max Fisher have crafted an affecting glimpse into the future for Aviva. Thanks to some heavy prosthetics, Adam and Toni sample life after retirement... and then given an enlightening indicator of their respective pensions. When confronted with the figures, both participants are given food for thought.

De Montfort University
"Dare to Do"
30s
4 Sep 2016
Following his impressive work for the Royal Navy depicting young people seizing the initiative, Outsider's Max Fisher is a shrewd pick behind the camera for this striking ad for De Montfort University. Demonstrating that studying needn't be staid, urgent breathing and kinetic visuals help portray the institution as the dynamic choice to achieve both academic and sporting potential.

Royal Navy Reserves
"Wednesdays"
60s
17 Mar 2016
More than any previous recruitment film for the reserve wings of our armed services, this portrays the visceral excitement of the time you might spend with them. But it does so with responsibility... there's no glorification of combat here. It's about taking self-fulfilment and creating an area of your life which differs from the humdrum of day-to-day living.

Royal Navy
"Submariner"
60s
15 Dec 2015
The final instalment in WCRS's excellent series of Royal Navy films focuses on the camaraderie recruits can experience during their stint. While this submariner admits the prospect of working with advanced technology pulled him in, it's the bonds developed with his fellow sailors that have made him stay. Another strong and persuasive piece with personal development at its heart.

Royal Navy
"Pride"
60s
10 Nov 2015
Another strong entry in the Royal Navy's impressive series of recruitment films employs a neat visual device to chart this young man's shift from an uncertain future to gracing the pitch at Twickenham. As with any big decision, it's the first step out the door which matters the most. That's the one that starts him on his way to a Royal Navy recruitment office, then on to aircraft carriers, foreign lands, and the home of English rugby.

Royal Navy
"Tom"
60s
26 Aug 2015
Another excellent spot commandingly convincing us that a stint in the Royal Navy will turn recruits from ditherers to doers. Tom's mum reads out his mediocre school reports and marvels at how her apparently unremarkable son has turned into such a capable adult. It's beautifully done, and the filming allows the results to speak for themselves.

Royal Navy
"Shantel"
70s
13 Aug 2015
This film from the Royal Navy is designed to chime with those looking to hone their culinary skills in a way they may not have previously considered. The personable Shantel relates how her cooking prowess has grown from making pasta and corned beef at home to preparing food for an entire crew. It's a clever way to show how joining the forces can do more for your personal growth than simply teaching you how to deal with emergencies.

Shreddies
"Nana State"
40s
25 Mar 2015
Election time is upon us, and while it is our democratic right to keep our voting intentions to ourselves, DAVID wouldn't be averse to this lot enjoying a five year term. No longer satisfied with knitting our breakfast, the Shreddies Nanas want to bring about change - namely, making Britain nicer. Our budding politician canvasses the nation by asking what little things matter to us and even throws in a dance lesson for a romance-deficient mechanic. No doubt about it: we want a Nana State.

Sky +
"The Sopranos"

29 Oct 2012
Jonathan Ross reveals that he's never watched The Sopranos in the latest of the ads for Sky Plus featuring the chat show host. Now that the broadcaster is introducing a box-set on demand service, he's finally going to be able to work out what all the fuss is about. Shame he doesn't have a DVD player though... poor love.

Sky +
"Tennis Final"
40s
24 Oct 2012
Jonathan Ross expresses his enthusiasm for tennis in this commercial designed to draw attention to a deal which will enable Sky + users to access the BBC iPlayer from the end of the month. Is there less sincere advocate than Ross? You can almost see him spending his considerable fee with his eyes as he delivers his lines.

Sky +
"Hayden"

16 Oct 2012
A fan of Game of Thrones speaks enthusiastically about the programme before donning a crown and menacing the camera with a toy sword. Thanks to the advertised device's 'series link' feature, he's able to make sure he never misses an episode of the American-made drama.

Sky +
"Ginger Pig"
60s
7 Oct 2012
Never mind all the fuss about Mercedes's interactive ad during this weekend's X Factor, the most outstanding commercial to run during the programme was this excellent piece for Sky. Initially appearing to be an ad for a new sausage called 'Ginger Pig', it soon becomes clear that we're looking at something else altogether.
