Sainsbury's
"Love Dancing"
30s
8 February 2017
UK Supermarkets

A commercially-contrived event February 14th may be, but at least Orange Supermarket suggests we embrace the mood of the day rather than imply we're losers in love if we don't buy perfunctory gifts for our significant others. Better still, there's no discount price points cancelling out the thoughtfulness behind the limp flowers / battered chocolate box / bottle of Lambrini flogged by everyone else.

Sainsbury's
"Food Dancing (Extended)"
2 mins 55s
20 Jan 2017
This extended version of the new Sainsbury's 'Food Dancing' campaign features some interesting additions, including dance instructions and a colourful 80's rap video-style segment. Despite the campaign causing health and safety concerns in some quarters (dancing with sharp knives or flinging around tea-towels near open flames... maybe they have a point), this extended version is an effective promo for MysDiggi's specially-created song.

Something interesting always happens when an agency like W+K gets into bed with a client like Sainsbury's and so it proves with the agency's début TV work for its big new client. Orange Supermarket has been placed at the forefront of a new movement called #fooddancing by an ad with an earwormy soundtrack from MysDiggi combined with a montage that's been made to look as though it's been clandestinely filmed in our actual kitchens.

Milk Tray
"The Return"
90s
8 Oct 2016
After the likes of Thom Evans, Joey Essex, and Barry from Eastenders failed to make the grade last year, fireman Patrick McBride is the new Milk Tray Man. This cinematic ad sends the latest incarnation of the Cadbury icon to the Altai Mountains. There's no time to enjoy the view, however - this is a Milk Tray Man on a mission.

Lidl
"Fish"
60s
7 Jul 2016
Chris made the foolish mistake of alleging that Lidl collect their fish from a ditch so they took him out in a boat across the darkened water. But instead of filling his boots with cement as you might expect, they show him where they source their mussels and demonstrate how keen they are on sustainability... at least, that's what they did while the cameras were rolling.

Lidl
"Steak"
60s
4 Jul 2016
Lidl's continuing effort to upgrade the British public's expectations is given a big boost with this lovely documentary-style piece. According to the super at the beginning, Sharna used social media to question Lidl on the source of their meat. They didn't just reply, they arranged for her to be taken to one of the Scottish farms where some of the cattle who supply their stores are raised.

AirBnB
"Don't Go, Live"
60s
1 May 2016
AirBnB underline their home from home approach to holiday accommodation with this effective piece of work. Rather than experience a destination through selfie sticks and an endless selection of filters, the brand encourage us to use all of our senses to get the most out of our time away. The ad suggests returning to someone's home rather than a copy-and-paste hotel room helps create a holiday with a difference.

Vollebak
"Between Life and Death"
40s
21 Mar 2016
This opaque, beguiling commercial for cutting edge sportswear brand Vollebak immediately submerges the viewer in a dark realm without any means of escape. We see flashes - mere suggestions - of something oscillating in the darkness. Is it man-made, organic, or a hybrid of the two? When the outline of a jacket begins to materialize, it owes more to a piece of sci-fi armour than anything found in your usual outdoor gear outlets.

Sagami
"Act of Love"
75s
8 Jan 2016
We know it's hard for you to imagine but - picture if you can - an island state situated just off the coast of a great continent whose people have a strong sense of superiority over their neighbours and possess an almost fetishistic attitude to afternoon tea ceremonies, and who are so repressed that the mere thought of sexual contact sends them into a tizz.

Costa Coffee
"Hand-Crafted"
30s
22 Nov 2015
The staggering proliferation of coffee shops over the years means standing out is no mean feat, so Costa Coffee decide to focus on the skill of their baristas who make your cup of joe. The 'practice makes perfect' ethos is nicely portrayed through the looping imagery, while the featured barista possesses the winning blend of charm and pride the brand wishes to project.

Temptations
"Say Sorry For The Holidays"
60s
10 Nov 2015
This terrific ad for Temptations ticks every box and manages to add up to much, much more. To Elton John's 'Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word' we're given the gift of solemn-faced cats in ridiculous Yule-themed outfits - a sight that's justified by the idea that we can say sorry for the annual indignities with the cat treats in question.

"I Am Train"
60s
10 Sep 2015
Glory be! This splendid piece of communication looks set to give the advertised service a massive boost and DAVID can already picture people at home mimicking the protagonist's triumphant finalé to his speech. Director Ringan Ledwidge has once again demonstrated why agencies are so keen to have him on board.

The Sun
"Always Shines On TV"
60s
31 Aug 2015
This lovely look at what telly means to us advertises the various supplements available in The Sun to guide us towards the best programming. It's filled with super little truths and while many of them may have been seen before, they've been compiled with a bombastic grandiloquence which drives the point home like a Katie Hopkins rant.

Short Films
"What's Wrong?"
4 mins 19s
20 Jul 2015
The couple at the centre of this short may not too be great when it comes to communication, but their home certainly affords them plenty of exercise. A flood of mundane insecurities and odd revelations ensues as a husband tries in vain to pinpoint what's bothering his partner. The pay-off doesn't bring the house down so to speak, but the gently amusing script combines well with the setting.

Royal Navy
"Made in the Navy - cinema"
90s
7 Apr 2015
This version of Ed Morris's "Made in the Navy" film has been specially extended for cinema release, and does what we didn't think could be done - it improves on the original. It's a bold decision to do away with the narrated script that was so effective first time around, but "You'll Never Walk Alone" as the soundtrack is an inspired choice.

Co-operative Bank
"The Village Elder"
30s
26 Mar 2015
This eye-catching piece for the bank that's traditionally been chosen by people looking for a responsible attitude from the institution looking after their money has a tribal elder from an African village highlighting all of the bank's acts of decency. Mind you 'UK Call Centres' is a bit of an odd boast in a commercial which concentrates so much on charitable largesse overseas.

Etihad
"Nicole Kidman"
60s
16 Mar 2015
We suspect this drippingly opulent ad for Etihad will have more than a few viewers curling their lips contemptuously at the bubble the wealthy live in. And fair enough. However, the upmarket airline will be indifferent to the disdain of those who do proper work for a living, and they're actually quite right to be - because this ad is in no way directed at them.

Bombay Sapphire
"Ingredients"
2 mins
16 Feb 2015
This lavishly filmed spot for Bombay Sapphire goes to great lengths to demonstrate that its ingredients come from far flung places across the globe. Morocco, Indo-China, Java and more yield up their berries, bark and other "beautiful botanicals" in order to give the brand its distinctive flavour. There's a few things in here we've never even heard of. Grains of Paradise, anyone? Thought not.

Bombay Sapphire
"Coriander Seeds"
15s
13 Feb 2015
We'd hardly describe Morocco as 'the ends of the earth', but never mind: this 15 second edit of Bombay Sapphire's two-minute long commercial does a pretty job of letting us know that the gin's distinctive flavour is in part produced by the coriander seeds that come from this country. It's one of many "beautiful botanicals" the drink is infused with.

Bombay Sapphire
"Cassia Bark"
15s
13 Feb 2015
Did you know Bombay Sapphire gin is infused with Cassia Bark from Indo-China? Neither did we. But now that we've got your attention, it's also infused with other 'beautiful botanicals' from the ends of the earth. So there you have it: if you like your gin to be exotic, this is the brand for you. What exactly is Cassia bark, by the way?

Havana Club
"Mojito"
60s
29 Jan 2015
The perfect Cuban Mojito doesn't have to be made with limes squeezed between a woman's breasts, if you'd been labouring under that impression. That's a relief for cocktail waitresses, we should imagine. Neither does the mint need to come from the top of a mountain. No, says ex-boxer Chino in this atmospheric ad for Havanas Club - it's all in the detail... ie, the spirit you use, and the spirit you make it in.

Shredded Wheat
"Northern Soul"
2 mins
14 Jan 2015
What a terrific little film quietly endorsing Shredded Wheat - about a dad who's revived his love of early Northern Soul and eats reasonably healthily in order to stay trim for his dancing gear. He talks about the ritual of getting ready for dance night starting from the moment he wakes, and how his teen son goes with him too. "What's it like having the coolest dad in the universe?" other young fans ask the lad.

Royal Navy
"Made in the Royal Navy"
60s
30 Dec 2014
This powerful commercial for the Royal Navy delivers on many levels. A superb script conveys its message directly and with impact, yet never feels forced. The correlating imagery is creative without being contrived. The pace - dictated by the script's rhythm - is impassioned but beautifully devoid of machismo. Grace and resourcefulness win the day: a triumph all round.

Samsung Galaxy
"Get Some"
45s
14 Oct 2014
This very attractive online spot for Samsung Galaxy Note certainly knows how to show off the phone's features to best advantage. Filmed in Barcelona, it features Lykke Li's hit Get Some (which Apple's lawyers may be interested to know was also used in the iOS5 video, ahem) and takes us through a day in the life of various young people for whom the phone is essential.

Daniel James
"Ain't No Money"
3 mins 47s
4 Jul 2014
Up-and-coming singer songwriter Daniel James has released the lead single Ain't No Money from his eponymous debut EP... and a rousing, gospel-tinged number it is. About greed and corruption, it comes with a striking video from director Mark Jenkinson. Set in the streets of the city at night, a venal businessman is pursued by some unexpected followers who increasingly unnerve him.
