UK Fast Food Restaurants

This commercial for KFC certainly has the 'huh?' factor. So much so that - on first viewing - it prompted a lot of puzzled faces and a certain amount of head shaking.

But the idea of a traditional head teacher being thrown by one of her teacher's politicisation of the annual Nativity play has grown on us.

It helps that whole thing is so surreal and so much love has gone into the details. Apart from anything else, it makes you realise that creating a nativity play along these lines would be an act of absolute genius. (Are you paying attention, Channel 4? Commission the schizzz out of this now!)

At the centre of it all is the equally absurd idea of the radical teacher and the head teacher setting aside their differences in their mutual pleasure of KFC's Christmas offering. Often the product gets a bit lost in projects like this but this feels like it's going to prompt a lot of people to guiltily slink into their nearest outlet and see if they can be similarly soothed by the aroma of fried chicken.

The Colonel narrates an unexpected love triangle in this ad for KFC. A pair of geriatric lotharios who caused a stir in their retirement home fighting over a 'fine young filly' are reconciled by their mutual fondness for KFC. And a good thing too, because their fair lady was busy "mutton-busting" another chap while they slugged it out, the floozy.

The Colonel brings feuding families together with KFC's first Christmas Burger launched in the UK (featuring no turkey, weirdly). Kids may throw tantrums and teens may bring their obnoxious boyfriend along for the ride, but peace and serenity can be restored for the price of a burger - it's a Christmas miracle.

Maltesers

The third of the three excellent commercial for Maltesers which won £1 million of free airtime on Channel 4 has a woman in a wheelchair describing a mishap on the dance floor at a wedding. It didn't end badly for her though... she managed to pull the best man. Another enlightening instalment.

"Theo's Dog"

Another helping of funny and rude from the campaign for Maltesers which was selected by Channel 4 to champion diversity. In this execution - which is told in sign language - we learn how a hearing aid was swallowed by a dog and the only prospect of its return lies in filtering the pet's excrement. None of this is explicit but it doesn't take much to read between the lines.

It's sometimes said that the Marx Brothers got away with their most risqué gags because the censors didn't understand the innuendo and we have to wonder whether something similar happened here - as we can't quite believe a gag as rude as this has made it onto our screens. We're bloody glad it has though, as it's a perfect way of reminding a general audience that you don't have to be able-bodied to have a wicked sense of humour.

BT Broadband
"Alec Baldwin"

This much improved campaign has made the awkwardness of Ewan McGregor's curious performance in the first execution a distant memory. Alec Baldwin is the latest of the unlikely stars to turn out for the telecoms company as he sets out to demonstrate that BT's Broadband is as good as his dramatic delivery.

Maltesers

Maltesers may be little balls of deliciousness, but they take on a whole new perspective in this spot. A woman's dog - wearing the lampshade of humiliation - wanders into the kitchen where the woman and a friend are chatting at the table. Using the confectionery to offer a visual explanation, we learn that Barney has been unmanned, so to speak. The shame.

A couple of colleagues are taking a break in the stock room and get talking about a mutual friend's evidently frail gran. Using a Malteser to demonstrate the sorry tale, one of the women tells how a small gust of wind proves fatal. It's an amusing idea for a campaign - whatever the nature of the story being told, the glibness of acting it out with confectionery can't help but make us smile.

Individual Maltesers continue to help illustrate the key themes of various anecdotes and confessions in this fun new campaign. Here, a nurse admits she borrowed a friend's treasured necklace on the evening she danced with Jamie, "the really fit one". But that's not all that happened, it turns out. She primes her friend for the outcome by lining up Maltesers and scattering them... we can all see where this is heading.

Following in Mum and Dad's footsteps can be a tricky proposition for many. When yours are comedy greats Jennifer Saunders and Ade Edmondson, it's, erm, no laughing matter. Luckily, Beattie Edmondson looks to have inherited both her parents' funny bones as this chucklesome Maltesers ad demonstrates.

This acutely sweet short by Tim Brown draws attention to the therapeutic power of dance. It centres on Margot Edwards who describes how she's the oldest person at her gym before we get to witness the unlikely shapes she and her fellow retirees are throwing on the dance floor. There's some devious sleight of hand at play here but Brown has managed to make it look so authentic that many viewers won't quite be sure what they're looking at.

Milk Tray
"The Search"

The Milk Tray man is back! That is, for those of us who remember him. One of the original polo-necked chappies who used to swing in through windows and slalom through doorways to leave a box of chocs for an admired laydee has climbed out of whatever ravine he's been stuck in for decades and is urging men across the nation to be his successor.

After his show-stopping introduction earlier this year, Tena For Men’s Stirling Gravitas has become the saviour for incontinence control. Look the words up in the dictionary and you’ll find his satisfied face next to them. In another terrific Jeff Low-directed outing, Stirling demonstrates just how unflappable he is in the face of… well, everything.

Radio X
"Moyles On The March"
30s
21 Sep 2015
This humorous reworking of The Verve's 'Bittersweet Symphony' video is all about the bitter as Chris Moyle wends his way to his new job at Radio X. No one is safe as the erstwhile King of Breakfast Radio looks to regain his crown at the station formerly known as XFM. Tongue-in-cheek and full of attitude, though perhaps wrecking the front wall isn't the best way to ingratiate yourself with your new bosses.

Pot Noodle
"The Ring"

Lucky Generals couldn't have asked for a better start to their work for Pot Noodle than with this terrific underdog story. Stick-thin, but packed full of Northern grit (and chicken and mushroom), our protagonist is determined to make the poster on his wall a reality. we can't help but join the hype for his in-ring debut. When it comes, it's a certainly a knockout.

Stirling Gravitas finds himself up a tree in this latest outing for the man who has no time for incontinence. With his trademark brio, he passes on some helpful advice about pelvic floor exercises designed to help strengthen your defence against urine leakage. Used alongside the advertised product, you're a step closer to living life the Stirling way. Remember now: "Clench!"

It's a welcome return for Stirling Gravitas as he suggests methods of controlling urine leakage the only way he knows how: through suave bombast. While we're a little taken aback by Stirling's shift from feats of amazement to outright vandalism, the priceless delivery of the script once again ups the standard for advertisements of this type of product.

Incontinence control. Surely there's no fun to be had with this? Wrong. Tena For Men have a secret weapon for promoting their product with wit and charm. Enter Stirling Gravitas - a gentleman for whom winning is as natural as breathing. A montage of awesomeness underlines how not even urine leakage can faze him.

Red Cross

The reluctance of people to donate money to a charity if they suspect the funds are destined to help people overseas rather than those who require assistance within these islands can be a real blight when it comes to fund-raising. It's a prejudice that no one wants to encourage but the issue cannot be left unaddressed and this terrific film for the British Red Cross negotiates it with aplomb.... not to mention tact and grace.

Although the tale has often been told of Ernest Shackleton's valiant effort to rescue his crew when he and they were stranded in the Antarctic in 1915, it is such an extraordinary story that no-one should ever baulk at a re-telling.

Bottles of the advertised cider sit atop refreshing peaks of ice filled with frozen fruit as a wolf looks on longingly. The unlucky lupine wishes he could have some of the refreshing drink but he can't because he's a wolf... we're not wolves so we can have some if we like. Lucky us.

Nationwide

The Nationwide is one of the few major financial institutions still run as a mutual and they're right to draw attention to that. The gentleness exuded by this ad's styling is an excellent way of emphasising the relative humanity of the brand - certainly compared with those rascals who nearly bankrupted UK PLC.

Live action and animation are very attractively combined in the latest commercial for Nationwide. The proposition is a little detailed and complicated but 5% catches your, er, interest in this era of low rates of return and that may be enough to persuade punters to investigate further.

John Hurt voices this commercial for an online property service operating in the upper echelons of the market. Soaked with a relaxed feel, the film reminds those who've worked hard for life's rewards that they deserve all that it can deliver. It looks certain to appeal to the target market.
