Hotel Tonight
"Cousin Becca"

USA Hotels

One of two droll ads for Hotels Tonight offering respite from family get-togethers. There's no need for dialogue as this young woman's facial expressions tell the whole story. Finally, she blows the mother of all raspberries in glorious slow-motion. If relatives like these are a holiday staple, the accommodation app can help soothe your nerves.

Hotel Tonight
"Uncle Tony"
20s
23 Nov 2016
Uncle Tony provides his own version of ping pong in this amusing Hotels Tonight ad. Tony's happy, but we can imagine the novelty wearing thin after the umpteenth 'serve'. It's a playful reminder that close-quarters family time can be trying at this year. Those who cherish their sanity as well their families can check the advertised app for nearby accommodation.

PG Tips
"Spring Clean"
30s
10 May 2016
Now enjoying life as a solo act following years at Johnny Vegas's gaff, Monkey once again espouses the virtues of the simple life with this fun PG Tips ad. Keen to give his body a "good old spring clean", it's apparent the knitted primate's hasn't prepared himself for what's awaiting his, ahem, "back door". The quick cuts between him and the nurse build the humorous unease nicely, and his switch to plan T(ea) conveys the brand's uncomplicated philosophy just as well.

Aldi
"Hot Cross Buns"
40s
11 Mar 2016
Another helping of Easter parody has Aldi spoofing the famous Diet Coke ad. But - in this incarnation - the muscular protagonist is pouring hot cross buns down his naked torso. This has little impact on the gazing adoration of the crowd which is part of the attention to detail that makes this such a fun piece of work.

Aldi
"Easter Gorilla"
40s
10 Mar 2016
Mark Denton's swiftly chucked together spoof of John Lewis's Christmas ad did wonders for Aldi when it got a massive thumbs up on social media - so it's little wonder McCann Manchester turned to him once again to help them realise a parody of one of advertising's greatest icons... the Cadbury gorilla.

PG Tips
"New Year Diets"
10s
4 Jan 2016
Monkey explains that while essence of Jupiter is handy for coping strategies, and pine nuts do the job where past life stress is concerned, good old fashioned PG Tips is the bees knees when it comes to preserving sanity. It's a simple, amusing spot that gets its point across in ten unhurried seconds - nice one, Monkey.

Aldi
"Telescope"
20s
25 Nov 2015
There was a lot of joy on Twitter last night when punters saw this cheeky film by Aldi poking fun at John Lewis's Christmas commercial. Another Film Company's Mark Denton has drawn just the right amount of fun from McCann Manchester's script and there's even time - in just 20" - for a guest appearance from Jean - the advertiser's gin-toting icon.

PG Tips
"Keep It Tea"
30s
1 Sep 2015
These little shorts for PG Tips feature Monkey in a variety of minimalist white settings, opting for a straightforward cuppa over the fanciful tongue-twisting trends du jour. Or, in one case, ruing his decision to have a vajazzle when it can't be shown on TV. Which begs the question: isn't Monkey male, to all intents and purposes?

Aldi
"Bath"
20s
13 Oct 2014
A cheeky Welsh miss puts on her best seductive voice as she purrs her preference for specific chocolate brands. We know something is, er, afoot, but it's still a surprise to see what it is. It raises a smile and gets its message across nicely. Now: let's get the bath running and dig out last Christmas's chocolate shortbread...

Aldi
"Fish Fingers"
20s
25 Aug 2014
Dad and daughter compare notes on fish fingers as they sit on the river bank, waiting patiently to reel something in. They're tucking into that glorious creation, the fish finger sandwich - but suddenly their rural idyll takes an unexpected turn. Being a laconic northerner, the girl takes it all in her stride and continues to munch her lunch.

Aldi
"Ice Cream"
20s
11 Aug 2014
Nice twist in this ad. What's the difference between Magnum ice creams and Aldi ice creams? None as far as we can tell. The young woman in the ad likes 'em both. Can't get enough of them, in fact. But not for the reasons you'd think - looking sexy while she snaffles them is the furthest thing from her mind.

Dry Nites
"One in Four"
20s
14 Jul 2014
How do you address the issue of bed-wetting while keeping everything bright and breezy? You use a charming bit of stop-frame; a reassuring VO; some jaunty music and Bob's your uncle. Anything in this realm that doesn't make the squeamish squirm has done its job rather well, and this not only sidesteps the uncomfortable but is imbued with a fair amount of charm to boot.

Aldi
"Graham Taylor"
20s
9 Jun 2014
Lovely idea - Graham Taylor getting so carried away by the footie as he tells us his cider preferences that he has an accident. No, not that kind. Football fans will guess straight away that the ad is headed towards Taylor's famous catch-phrase and it's all the better for seeing it coming - plus we love the production design, right down to the dingy lighting.

Fentimans
"Victorians"
30s
16 May 2014
You can't help feeling that Sell! Sell! latched on to the word 'adult' when their client told them this is a 'soft drink aimed at adults' and the agency just couldn't let go of it. The resulting ad is 'adult' in the sense of 'adult films' and thanks to a marvellous treatment by director Fern Berresford, it's a great deal of fun.

Aldi
"Chocolate Rabbits"
20s
7 Apr 2014
Another winning addition to Aldi's charming canon has a little girl explaining that she likes the own-brand chocolate bunny as much as she likes the Lindt version. But she can't find the little figures in her garden "because mummy has hidden them a bit too well"... which is news to her brother who is stalking around the garden scooping all the confectionery into his basket.

Aldi
"Hot Cross Buns"
20s
31 Mar 2014
Easter may be coming but it's April Fool's Day today and it looks as though this Aldi commercial has been created with the latter in mind. Hot Cross Buns are the focus with Aldi's normal proposition about a contrast in price between branded and non-branded alternatives but it's the practical joke that grabs the attention.

Aldi
"Snowman"
20s
19 Nov 2013
It's slightly improbable that a chap would be sitting in a snowy garden discussing mince pies, but we don't mind as it means we can watch little Sophie add the finishing touches to her snowman. "Do you like him?" she asks her dad, as it slowly dawns on him what's happened, and why the snowman looks so distressed...

Domino's Pizza
"Greatness"
30s
7 Sep 2013
To the sound of Champion the Wonderhorse, a valiant Dominos delivery guy braves the elements to bring food specially made to liven up tired tastebuds. What's the magic ingredient? Stuffed crusts, you say? Indeed... but stuffed with hot dogs, no less. Heaven forfend.

Aldi
"Gin"
20s
7 Aug 2013
A recent strand of advertising featuring vox pops emphasising the supermarket's triumphs in Which? magazine's annual awards worried us a little... but we needn't have feared. The well-loved ads contrasting the price of a branded product with Aldi's less expensive offering are continuing and the latest is one of the best yet.

Kellogg's Squares
"Corner Shop"
20s
8 Apr 2013
This marvellous piece of nonsense by Coy! Communications's Mark Denton purports to show a fantastic window display made from the advertised product. Don't make the journey to Doncaster to see it though... it's all made up. In keeping with the previous ads in this series, it's a lie built on the misnomer in the product's name.

Kellogg's Squares
"Quarry"
20s
27 Feb 2012
This ad starts of by claiming that baked Brazilian rocks are included in a new variant of the advertised snack and shows us the quarry where they are sourced before admitting that it's all lies and offering us the campaign's regular refrain that they're not even square.

Berocca
"Idea"
20s
18 Sep 2011
This cute commercial for the health additive depicts a moment of inspiration. A young man puts together an improvised vehicle to help him speed back down the dusty hill after a long journey and provides a useful visual metaphor as he goes.

Kellogg's Squares
"Free Boat"
20s
29 Aug 2011
This ad starts off by claiming that we will be given an impressive boat if we buy the advertised confectionery before admitting that it's all lies. Not only will we not receive a free boat, Rice Krispies Squares aren't even square... the fiends.

ESPN
"The Gift"
60s
7 Aug 2011
A lovely montage of clips shows people watching sport on their television. Slow motion is used to good effect and you'd almost think these fans are more devoted than those who actually show up at the games. With ESPN they can be sure to "miss nothing".

Pimm's
"Summer Is Here"
30s
2 May 2011
Really? Really? Bring together every hoary cliché about the British summer into a single ad and associate your product with it? That's the plan? Surely Pimm's is an aspirational product and should be advertised as a refined alternative to the unrestrained chaviness on show here. You can't fault the delivery... it's just a bad idea.
