Sainsbury's
"The Greatest Gift: Food"
60s
24 November 2016
UK Supermarkets

Having set the scene in its opening commercial and brought in the Goggleboxers over a full ad break, Sainsbury's now lays out its festive stall in all its glory.

We're offered a sumptuous blend of live action food photography and stop-motion animation over the course of a swift-moving 60 kudos to food director Helen Downing for making every dish and morsel look irresistible. No wonder the two kiddies are having fun fishing for goodies with a candy cane.

A marriage between live action and animation doesn't always work but this brings the two elements together beautifully.

Jungle's sound design also deserves a mention, getting the level of the ambient family chatter just right under an instrumental version of the James Cordon song. Terrific work all round no wonder people are loving it.

Having set the scene in its opening commercial and brought in the Goggleboxers over a full ad break, Sainsbury's now lays out its festive stall in all its glory. We're offered a sumptuous blend of live action food photography and stop-motion animation... it's a real treat.

Sainsbury's
"Googlebox Christmas"
3 mins 20s
18 Nov 2016
The cast of Gogglebox become stop-motion characters in this special adbreak from the show's creators Channel 4, and Sainsbury's. Following the groundbreaking ad to promote The Lego Movie - in which Orange Supermarket's current agency PHD recreated an entire commercial break in Lego - this ad sees the Gogglebox crew react to the Sainsbury's animated Christmas ad which launched last week.

"The Greatest Gift"

As Sainsbury's saunter across London and park their account between the penny farthings at the HQ of Wieden+Kennedy, their heads will be filled with a parting serenade created for them by outgoing agency AMV. Sung by James Corden and written by Flight of the Conchords's Bret McKenzie, it's a part of a farewell gift that may have the retailer questioning the wisdom of their decision to part company with the agency after forty years.

Walkers Bugles
"Claws"
20s
4 Jul 2016
Young Gary Lineker must not have taken that "don't play with your food" discussion to heart judging by this ad for Walkers Bugles. Unfortunately, his play time is rudely interrupted by a lift full of hungry office workers eager to get their mitts on his packet. Stringing him up with ties and belts seems like a rough ride, but Mr Lineker has proven himself to be a glutton for punishment over the years.

Currys PC World
"Whatever It Takes"
40s
1 May 2016
The doddery mother-in-law is a well-trodden meme, but Currys PC World have found a way of giving an old joke a bit of extra spirit. A chap marvels at the fact a particular Samsung Curve TV displays over a billion colours, and attempts to persuade his wife that they should buy one. Of course, to make a purchase like that worthwhile, it makes sense to ensure it's in a room that can accommodate it and he has eyes on granny's.

Walkers Crispy Crackers
"Collider"
30s
19 Mar 2016
There was a time when we couldn't get enough of the Large Hadron Collider out CERN way. Now we know Walkers have moved in after all that Higgs boson hubbub. They've taken over the controls in a bid to fuse crisps and crackers together, and it results in a flavoursome breakthrough. However, the team didn't factor in a Gary Lineker-shaped anomaly.

Guinness
"John Hammond"
65s
2 Feb 2016
This piece for Guinness celebrating the music producer and civil rights activist John Hammond for ignoring a ban on black musicians is too cautious by half. The problems Hammond confronted nearly a century ago remain with us, and that makes this appropriation of his advocacy of tolerance feel rather wishy-washy. It looks good but it's a missed opportunity.

Walkers
"Lionel Messi's Table Football"
30s
1 Feb 2016
Gary Lineker has found it tricky to keep hold of his bag of Walkers in recent ads, but never before has he lost out to a more illustrious figure. Lionel Messi proves to be just as adept at table football as he is at the real thing by introducing ball to trophy to poor Gary's head. Good fun, plus we can imagine Cristiano Ronaldo sitting at home insisting he could've made a better shot.

BT Sport
"UEFA Champions League"
60s
26 Jul 2015
Footballers party alongside pundits to celebrate BT Sport's acquisition of the exclusive rights to show Champions league football this season. Sky and ITV are out of the picture for three years and BT Sport will be hoping their massive gamble pays off. This advertising demonstrates their determination to look the part and theirs is certainly the biggest challenge Sky has faced since it built its success on live football coverage in the early 1990s.

Currys PC World
"Pride & Sensibility"
30s
10 May 2014
This latest from Currys / PC World is another belter about men with ulterior motives. A beefy husband attempts to butter up his better half with a romantic meal before introducing the thought of buying a new curved screen TV. Naturally, it only popped into his head because he ended up "watching that Pride and Sensibility with the boys" round at his mate's house the previous night. Surprisingly, his wife is not taken in.

Currys PC World
"Penguins"
30s
1 May 2014
It's the pauses that make this performance so excellent... the way the protagonist reaches for the words 'head penguin' is priceless. The ad is also enriched by the extent to which he's not getting away with his con-trick - from the looks on the faces of his wife and his daughter, it's clear that they've worked out what he's up to as surely as we have.

Sainsbury's
"Burgers"
30s
3 May 2014
A yummy-looking burger is casually put together using Sainsbury's buns, beef, chutney et al. A rather palatable version of Just Can't Get Enough plays underneath as it's assembled, and you're left wondering why it is that when you yourself do a home-made burger, it never looks quite as neat and appetising.

Sainsbury's
"Porridge"
30s
1 May 2014
Sainsbury's manage to make plain old porridge look appealing in this spot promoting both the oaty breakfast option and various bits and bobs to liven it up; all at highly acceptable prices. The campaign features different versions of I Just Can't Get Enough, some of which are more successful than others. This one's a little too syrupy for our liking, but you can't have everything.

Currys PC World
"Gardening"
30s
2 May 2014
AMV's first telly work for Currys / PC World is an excellent piece of comedy featuring a man who's decided that his wife deserves to see all her favourite gardening programmes on the best television money can buy. And, of course, the fact that there's a World Cup on the way is neither here nor there. It would be "perfect timing... what with summer and the, er, grass growing," he says while studiously ignoring the elephant-sized football in the room.

Sainsbury's
"Just Can't Get Enough"
30s
1 May 2014
A cheap, simple meal is made to look as easy and mouthwatering as anything you'd see effortlessly thrown together from sun-warmed ingredients in the Med. A bit of spaghetti is livened up with roast cherry tomatoes, feta and basil - making you want to nip down to your nearest branch and get everything to recreate it for yourself. Clever.

Walkers
"Mystery Flavours"
60s
10 Feb 2012
A number of people try to work out what the mystery flavours can be in this ad introducing a competition. Gary Lineker's in there of course and the clips of people guessing have been given a slightly odd treatment to introduce a bit of dynamism.

BT Broadband
"Olympics"
40s
12 Nov 2011
Attractively-filmed footage of athletes training at night includes Oscar Pistorius getting ready for next year's Olympics. BT want us to associate the speed of the runners with the speed of their broadband (if so, presumably, we can expect the athletes to stop mid-race for no apparent reason).

Walkers
"Three Great Reasons"
40s
12 Sep 2011
As a crisp falls from a high building, its life flashes before its eyes and its wonderfully natural origins are brought to our attention. To the strains of Queen's 'Who Wants to Live Forever?', Gary Lineker comes to its rescue... or does he?

Walkers
"Groovy Kind Of Love"

Gary Lineker is linked romantically with Elle Macpherson in the latest addition to the considerable canon of Walker's ads featuring the footballer turned pundit. But the big-eared Match Of The Day host cannot be faithful to the Australian ex-model as he prefers the company of a bag of crisps.

Walkers
"Fry Vs Skinner"
30s
18 Feb 2011
Stephen Fry and Frank Skinner fake a rivalry in the latest ad in the Walkers ads that promote their involvement in Comic Relief. Gary Lineker presides over proceedings with convincing deadpan but sadly there are no laughs here. It's a good cause though.

Walkers
"Parade"
30s
16 Feb 2011
Jimmy Carr and Al Murray quite literally go head to head in the latest ad promoting the crisp company's effort to sell their wares while raising funds for Comic Relief. Carr's delivery of the last line suggests that comedy's loss was acting's gain when he decided to tread the boards with his disturbing one-liners.

Walkers
"Clash of The Comics"
60s
4 Feb 2011
Al Murray, Jimmy Carr, Frank Skinner and Stephen Fry compete with one another after introducing special crisps for Comic Relief. Campaign regular Gary Lineker anchors a dryly-delivered sequence suggesting bitter antipathy between the quartet of comics.

"Perfect Drinks"

Jamie Oliver pours out the fizzy plonk as the villagers enjoy the Christmas delivered by Sainsbury's. Apparently there's a special offer at orange supermarket so if you want to maintain a steady blur during the festive season, get down to your local branch.

Sainsbury's
"Something For Everyone"
20s
17 Nov 2010
Olivia Coleman provides the voice for this straightforward reminder that you can buy gifts from orange supermarket. Apparently, some of this guff is available on a three for two basis... so when you receive this year's piece of tat from Auntie Sheila, bear it mind that it cost her no money at all.

Sainsbury's
"Perfect Christmas"
60s
15 Nov 2010
Since Jamie Oliver has been such an asset to Sainsbury's, it's quite surprising that this ad appears to be going swimmingly until the TV chef shows up. Maybe it's just a blip but, this time around, he seems to detract from the transformation rather than enhance it.
