Irish Cancer Society
"I Want to Get Cancer"
40s
9 January 2017
Ireland Charities

"I want to get cancer because my mum had it," says one of the people in this spot for the Irish Cancer Society. She's not alone - everyone else in the ad wants to get it too. But not in the way it initially sounds... because as we quickly suspect, it's revealed they want to get it back for the pain it's caused in their lives. Controversial, yes, but the concept certainly gets your attention... and that's the name of the game.

Road Safety (Republic of Ireland)
"Crashed Lives"
1 min 50s
5 Dec 2016
This gruelling road safety film gives words to the unspeakable. One by one, we meet those haunted by Ciarán Treacy’s death: his parents; the emergency services who attended the scene; and the nurses who fought to save the four-year old’s life. These are the ripple effects of drink driving laid bare.

Toyota
"A Better World"
60s
1 Dec 2016
A father and son enjoy a countryside adventure in this Toyota commercial. The lad experiences the best that nature has to offer - and the advertised car manufacturer thinks they can help future generations do the same by reducing emissions. Director Brian Williams and DP Callan Green make strong use of Ireland’s greenery to convey Toyota’s own, well, green message.

Tesco
"Dear Mam, Love Suzin"
60s
23 Nov 2016
Suzin reminisces about her Nan's potent trifle in this touching ad for Tesco Ireland. She talks fondly about family traditions such as opening presents before dinner and hanging up Christmas stockings, and reveals that her family will need to add an extra stocking to the mantelpiece this year as she's expecting a baby. No trifle for Suzin this year!

Tesco
"Dear Mam, Love John"
40s
23 Nov 2016
John really, really loves his Mam's potato stuffing - that comes across loud and clear in this sweet ad for Tesco Ireland. We see him reading out a letter to his mother about his memories of Christmases past, and the happiness he felt at hosting his parents last year - on the condition Mam brought the stuffing, of course.

Cosc
"Witness"
40s
17 Nov 2016
Ireland's domestic violence prevention body implores us to act when we know someone is at risk. When this woman overhears her sister being hit via a baby monitor, she switches it off. The ad suggests those who ignore suffering are just as culpable as the perpetrators, while Cosc hopes more will speak out in future as a result.

Lidl
"Homecoming"
60s
14 Nov 2016
We suspect a lot of folk will find themselves muttering that there's something in their eye while watching this festive offering from Lidl Ireland. It tells the tale of an extended family gathering at what appears to be their abandoned homestead of years gone by, hurrying to get things ready for a very special guest.

Tesco
"Hosts"
60s
4 Nov 2016
Creative agency Rothco have created a touching seasonal campaign for Tesco Ireland, which features people reading out letters of thanks to the loved ones who host their Christmas dinners. For these hosts tend to be the 'unsung heroes' who stay out of the spotlight; the cooks and present wrappers and organisers - and who are all the more deserving of thanks because they don't expect it.

Tesco Mobile
"Stress Free"
40s
1 Nov 2016
Tesco Mobile give us a stress-free moment in a hectic world with this simple ad featuring a picture of adorable kittens and some soft purring sounds. The squeaky little miaows may have caused the resident office cat to freak out slightly here at DAVID, but we're sure the feline soundtrack and soothing Irish voiceover have the desired effect on human viewers.

Peter McVerry Trust
"Keys"
60s
14 Oct 2016
'Room' director Lenny Abrahamson and filmmaker Kieron J Walsh collaborate on this effective ad for the Peter McVerry Trust. Keys signify comfort, security, and trust in a series of vignettes - yet this isn't a shared reality. The camera lingers on a homeless man's face before he resigns himself to another uncertain night on the streets. By donating to the advertised charity, he and others may yet find shelter.

RGII
"Not Even Daniel"
30s
5 Oct 2016
Using a registered gas installer is so important that you shouldn't even let Daniel O'Donnell have a fiddle around with your boiler. RGII set a great tone in this tongue-in-cheek ad, featuring Daniel O'Donnell meeting one of his biggest fans and her delightfully kitsch collection of memorabilia ('just a few things I picked up along the way,' she says. A likely story, Mary...).

Insolvency Service of Ireland
"Drowning"
40s
4 Oct 2016
The Insolvency Service of Ireland realises the notion of 'drowning in debt' with this unnerving, well-crafted commercial. A woman is shown struggling against an invisible current as her two children eat breakfast. As she floats in mid-air, she fights for a lifeline. Alas, there are only half-made cups of tea and final warnings on her kitchen counter.

Cow & Gate
"Woodland Magic"
20s
4 Oct 2016
Cow & Gate's Super Yummies add some magic to this little girl's walk through the woods. The chirpy narrator explains that "toddlers see the world differently", so the brand has created a range of snacks to help feed young imaginations and growing bodies. Cute animation enlivens this woodland scene, while the brand promotes an active lifestyle from an early age.

Euromillions
"The Island"
60s
28 Sep 2016
This entertaining ad for Euromillions features a man who buys an island and gives it to Ireland. The result is a sunny hideaway with all the tea, crisp sandwiches, and hurling you could want, while the jackpot winner's generosity will go down in folklore. A lovely film with a tongue-in-cheek, self-deprecating look at being Irish that's charming and affectionate.

Bank Of Ireland
"Ham Sandwich"
40s
6 Sep 2016
According to this fun ad for the Bank of Ireland, saving for a deposit on a house needn't require a spartan approach like Tom here. Settling for homemade ham sandwiches with a cheeky dollop of mayonnaise leaves the poor chap in the doldrums at lunchtime, but when one of his sarnies delivers Journey's familiar message of encouragement, he finds respite through the advertised bank's savings account.

Bank Of Ireland
"Viewing"
40s
6 Sep 2016
The Bank of Ireland blends home truths and charming puppetry to good effect in this ad encouraging house hunters to think positive when navigating the property market. Early on a Saturday morning, this couple embarks on yet another house viewing. All seems to be going well until they open the bathroom door to a pink and avocado nightmare... but a more pleasant surprise is in store.

Tesco Mobile
"Knickers"
30s
25 Jul 2016
One of two excellent ads for Tesco Mobile about the dilemmas of modern life. In this execution, a mum discovers some frilly knickers in her son's bedroom and runs the gamut of emotions from outrage to acceptance to confusion as a whole other range of possibilities reveal themselves to her. Again, a terrific juxtaposition between the physical stillness of the performance and the wired skittering of the VO.

Tesco Mobile
"Friend Request"
30s
25 Jul 2016
The lovely performance from the young woman in this Tesco Mobile ad - coupled with the quirky voiceover - makes this an absolutely cracking ad. From the brief thrill of getting a 'friend request' alert on her phone to the horrified discovery it's from her draconian boss, her face registers a range of emotions communicated with economy and wit. Life's complicated, we're told; thank goodness choosing the right network isn't.

Safe Food
"Raw Meat"
30s
20 Jul 2016
As this fellow prepares a couple of chops, two miniature versions of himself comment on kitchen habits. While one assumes a considerably relaxed attitude about handling raw meat, the other insists on doing things properly and hygienically. Hardly a top-tier execution, but it does tap into the risks associated with taking an 'it'll be alright' outlook on basic food preparation.

Dairygold
"Make A Minute"
60s
12 Jul 2016
This has the feeling of a minor epic as footage which appears to be crowd-sourced is married with an anthemic track - Take All The Time You Need by Oh Honey. It comes together neatly to create a sense that the advertised spread is an essential component of everyday life... and we should get some on our toast pronto.

Digicel
"Bring The Beat"
60s
28 Jun 2016
Usain Bolt brings his distinctive charisma to this Irish commercial for Digicel which celebrates all things Caribbean. A lot of energy is provided by director Hadi's clever use of close-up to increase the pace of the edits with Bolt's highly professional VO providing the glue that holds the whole thing together.

Heineken Light
"Chase Lovage"
30s
17 Jun 2016
The search continues for a spokesperson worthy of endorsing Heineken Light. Is it to be the deliciously-named Chase Lovage? Chase is certainly hoping so. But there's something distracting about his delivery... the lighthouse dazzle of his sooper-dooper ultra-brilliant gnashers. Caught off-guard by the director, his confidence falters. It's both very silly and very sweet - one of those ads we want to watch again and again for the performance.

Fáilte Ireland
"Ancient East"
90s
16 Jun 2016
When a little boy can't sleep, his daddy sits down and reads to him from a vast orange tome packed with stories about Ireland's Ancient East. As the stories unfold, father and son are magicked away to the scenes of the stories themselves - still safely ensconced on the boy's bed. It's a lovely way to invite people to visit and explore thousands of years of history via the tourist board Fáilte Ireland.

Milk
"Milk Moments"
30s
9 Jun 2016
This engaging ad for the National Dairy Council depicts both familiar and novel ways of enjoying the white stuff. The film's youthful cast portrays milk as the go-to substance during work and play, whether it's a glass after school or drunk through a super straw before bedtime. A perky soundtrack helps cement the commercial's approachable tone as milk receives a big push.

Maxol
"Anna"
30s
6 Jun 2016
This sweet commercial for Irish petrol station Maxol suggests you'll always come out feeling better than you did when you went in because of the friendliness of the people who work there. The prism for this claim is Anna - a young footballer whose team has lost, despite her sensational performance (or so we heard!).
