UK Fast Food Restaurants

An amusing montage from McDonald's shows the variety of ways the morning can get away from us. From the moment the alarm goes off a combination of shower mishaps, missed buses, and unruly kids are bound to scupper any idealised notion of how the day will begin. At least we can sort breakfast with a quick trip to the local Maccy D's.

A hapless treasure-hunter comes across something a lot less valuable than he was hoping for in this funny ad for McDonald's. He needn't be too down about his detector disappointment though, not when a consolatory Big Mac leads to him winning a prize so impressive he shrieks with delight. An entertaining performance from the lead.

McDonald's annual Monopoly ad returns - this time with a scientific twist. While the pair of researchers here aren't exactly Indiana Jones, they react with appropriate excitement when they stumble upon a pristine artefact they've been searching for. As they rush to preserve the precious parchment, however, disaster strikes...

This Kiwi McDonald’s ad offers an amusing spin on being a middle child as the girl endures every kind of indignation that comes with having the middle seat. Whether it’s selfish brothers, over-friendly dogs or the weekly shop, it’s tough being at the centre of it all.

This quirky spot for McDonalds has Steve - an employee at the fast food chain - trying to persuade Will (sitting next to him on the bus) that beef, the whole beef, and nothing but the beef goes into their burgers. When Will doesn't believe him, both they and the other passengers are transported to the processing plant which proves Steve's assertion. Stylishly done.

McDonald's appeal to customers who like to get their money's worth with this funny ad for their saver menu. A wife finally gets some peace and quiet to dry her hair... only to find her husband turning the leaf blower on her now he's finished with the garden. Like the rest of the ads in this campaign, this is short, punchy, and gets a chuckle in an effective 20".

McDonald's show how a broken lift becomes a sweet bonding experience for two women. Trapped alone together and awaiting rescue, the women share water, shoes, a scarf, secrets, stories, and a pair of headphones, but not even their new found friendship compels them to share the McDonald's Chicken Selects which is handed to them by their rescuers.

McDonald's
"Juliette"
90s
21 Nov 2016
McDonald's give hope to toys nationwide with their Christmas film. We're introduced to Juliette - a vintage doll who's never experienced playtime and has learnt to endure her loneliness with silent fortitude. Each day from her toy shop window she wistfully watches people meet up to share food and laughter in the McDonald's across the street... and she resolves to act.

"Chicken McNuggets"

McDonald's aim to set the record straight on Chicken McNuggets... again. The fast food restaurant has tackled what does and what doesn't go into their McNuggets once before, but they want to make sure everyone's got the message with this new execution. Forget beaks, bits, feet, innards, and feathers, says the VO - it's chicken breast through and through.

"Mexican Stack"
20s
9 Nov 2016
A woman misguidedly attempts to start a Mexican wave in this ad for the last of McDonald's globe-trotting limited edition burgers - the Mexican Stack, available for two weeks only. Someone ought to tell her about the British attitude to commuting... not likely to get any participation there; just a loud tut and the disapproving rustle of a newspaper at most.

McDonald's suggest your local multi-storey car park is an ideal substitute for the Swiss Alps. This motorist is surprised to see a blue-clad skier enjoying the exceptionally dry slope conditions. Shame about the lack of ski-lift, though. Those looking for a more low-key taste of Switzerland can try the chain's new Swiss Stack burger for two weeks only.

"Speaker"
30s
13 Oct 2016
McDonald's presents another good-natured example of life when the body is willing, but the mind is asleep. This chap suffers a communication breakdown while trying to order a drive-thru breakfast - ordering through the speaker rather than a bin would be a good start. Director David Kerr coaxes some lovely, groggy frustration from the lead actor before his mistake dawns on him.

McDonald's
"South African Stack"
20s
12 Oct 2016
A bloke wearing an elephant mask bumbles his way to his car keys while his partner appears non-plussed on the sofa. Takes all sorts, we suppose. The visual gag promotes the latest globe-trotting menu from the fast food chain and first up is the South African Stack burger. Meanwhile, how's this guy going to explain himself to the traffic police?

McDonald's
"Judo Legend"
30s
30 Aug 2016
This curly-haired gentleman willingly enters a world of pain each and every time his judo instructor asks for a volunteer from the line-up. Sparing his fellow classmates the discomfort of a well-applied arm hold or a face-first rendezvous with the mat, Elliot earns legendary status amongst the West Heath judo community... and one participant knows exactly what kind of chicken sandwich is worthy of his efforts.

"Acting Masterclass"

18 Aug 2016
This year's crop of summer blockbusters may have failed to set the world alight, but this well-performed McDonald's ad hints at a seat-filler with extra bite. One can't help but wonder how the lead in this watery epic manages to summon such raw emotion in each and every take... but the reason has more to do with matters of the stomach than the heart.

"Summer of Good Times"

17 Aug 2016
Come rain, shine, or a maddening combination of the two, McDonald's aim to help foster lasting memories of summer with a range of community activities and stunts. This ad features some appealing outdoor photography as punters young and old enjoy themselves whatever the conditions, while select items from the restaurant's menu are shown to be the ideal accompaniment for such carefree antics.

"Community Football"

Amidst all the hyper-stylized depictions of the beautiful game we tend to see at this time of the year, it's good to provide balance with something more innocent and grounded. This nicely shot McDonald's ad goes back to grassroots by showing youngsters developing ball skills and teamwork thanks to coaches and equipment backed by the fast food chain.

McDonald's
"Commuter"
30s
27 Jul 2016
McDonald's offer an understanding nod to those who rise but don't necessarily shine after their morning alarm clock. A dishevelled chap attempts to find a seat to enjoy his breakfast wrap, only to find himself in the lap of a fellow commuter. Textbook British embarrassment, even if the advertised product looks like a disconcerting use of a tortilla wrap.

McDonald's
"Spacewalk"

26 Jul 2016
An astronaut is flagging outside his spacecraft in the cold wastes of the void. His grasp on the cord connecting him is failing... even the thought of his wife and children can't quite galvanise him to make it back to the safety of the hatch. But his desperate colleague has an idea... and it just might work.

"BBQ Smokehouse Range"

19 Jul 2016
Such was the visual flair of last summer's ad for the Smokehouse burger, McDonald's stick to the same formula second time round. Before two hungry diners have a chance to take a bite of their respective burgers, they're given a brisk rundown of each ingredient. Thanks to the classy food photography, it's tempting to join them.

"Wedding Dress"

18 Jul 2016
Another tribute from McDonald's to those who like to stretch their budget as far as humanly possible sees a newlywed deciding her bridal gown would make ideal business attire. Nullifying her conspicuous arrival at the morning meeting with a lovely aside about train delays, it's a nicely-observed performance in a diverting plug for the fast food chain's Saver Menu.

"What Do I Get?"

7 Jun 2016
McDonald's launched their wrap selection with a punchy ad brimming with attitude at the tail end of last year, and this new offering continues the rebellious vibe. With luminous hair and eyes to match, this employee provides a extra dollop of excitement to this lad's order. Busy visuals and a Buzzcocks soundtrack combine to good effect as 2AM Films's Jason Lowe grasps the restaurant's zestful direction assuredly.

Chuck's efforts to bring bonafide American flavours to the McDonald's menu this summer are once again made difficult by our nation's roadways. While he attempts to rustle up the restaurant's limited edition Tex-Mex Stack, his 'kitchen' experiences some unfortunate turbulence thanks to the grizzled driver navigating the logistical nightmare that is the local roundabout.

"You Know It's Summer When... "

It's actually been summer at DAVID HQ this week so while this may seem like cruel irony to Londoners after a week of being lashed by cold rain, this lovely paean to summer rituals works rather well for us. McDonald's isn't necessarily the first place we'd think of visiting for an ice drink but the advertiser's shrewd ability to associate itself with other things we enjoy - like sunshine - can make it feel as though they sponsor fun.

A gentle instrumental version of The Jam's 'That's Entertainment' carries us through this lovingly made ad for McDonald's which reminds us of the part it plays in the lives of so many of us. Whether it's the perfect hang-out for after school or a stop-off for coffee to enjoy in blissful solitude, it's a familiar and welcome destination for all generations.
