UK Train Services

There’s plenty of joie de vivre in this 60” ad for Eurostar. These travellers discover what can happen when you just say oui. A lot, as it happens - you’ve just got to have the right mindset.

There’s a vintage look to the film stock, giving the ad a chic, cinematic quality. Combined with some zippy visual flourishes, the overall mood is playful and freewheeling. Long lunches, lost and found love, and discovering one’s dancing shoes… sod the itinerary and just roll with it.

Each cut draws the eye with a burst of colour or a quirky prop. Even the simple act of asking for directions is told through a breathless montage. Your smartphone may feel neglected, but c’est la vie.

With the UK in the midst of a continental drift, as it were, it’s good to see Eurostar reaffirm the benefits of venturing across the Channel. The end result stems from Somesuch handling both the creative and the production. It’s a bold move, but the brand have been rewarded with a vivid paean to travel.

The tantalising promise of a trip across the English Channel is used to entice punters onto the trains of Eurostar in this lovely compendium of images created by HLA's Simon Ratigan. It was brave to imply that not everything we'll find on the continent will be entirely to our taste (these, after all, are countries where you don't have to commit fraud to persuade people to eat horse meat).

Jarvis Cocker and a couple of French pals appear to discuss possibilities for the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in this oddity for Eurostar. Even though they're on a train, this curious trinity picture themselves inside the stadium where their ideas are brought to life in alarming fashion.

This series of sponsorship bumpers advertises Eurostar's involvement with The European Market Update on one of the news channels. They show three high achievers enjoying the peace of the train and use a little post-production enhancement to add a special aspect reflecting the field of endeavour in which each of the trio made their names.

Eurostar's first ad for three years is a charming piece focusing on a little girl searching for a little companionship. She offers a "hello" to all creatures great and small and is quite astonished when she finally receives a reply.

Are the views from the window really an incentive to travel to the continent by train? And, if they are, wouldn't it be better to film them on a less dreary day? This commercial manages to make the journey look like a day trip to Swindon rather than a romantic voyage to the heart of Europe.

Eurostar sensibly allows their impressive new building to do the talking in this ad reminiscent of one of those films they used to run before the main feature in the olden days. Who else remembers the one that used to show the London to Brighton train completing the journey in four minutes? No-one? Oh bollocks.

The misery of air travel is captured perfectly in this ad for Eurostar which reminds us there is an alternative to the inconvenience of the airport. St Pancras becomes the new hub for rail travel to the continent in November and doesn't the station concourse look magnificent? That's because there's no people on it.

As Da Vinci Code fever hits town, Eurostar sets up a game which (they hope) will have people jumping aboard their trains to solve some kind of international mystery... try this one, just what is about Dan Brown's pile of hokum that has got everybody so excited?
