This whimsical Verizon commercial takes us into 8½ Maple Street - an address that takes the term ‘halfway home’ to extreme levels. Good luck to the estate agent who ever has to shift this place.

Still, the family seems content with their ultra-cosy existence. Even if brushing their teeth requires a little elbow room, they make the most of their confined space. Well, it helps when you’ve got rapid upload and download speeds in every cubby-hole.

To his credit, director Kevin Thomas makes it look like a rather neat place to live. The production design is lovely: everything’s in its rightful place, while every door and panel reveals something (or someone) unexpected.

Conveying speed is essential in this sector. Here, the telecom giant does so in a personable and well-crafted fashion, suggesting it’s the ideal option for households of any size.

This quirky film from Verizon shows a montage of things which only take a instant to happen in order to illustrate their broadband speeds. Bubbles pop, static shocks zap, and one chap loses a year's worth of beard in one snip. It's unusual for a provider to focus on their upload as well as download speeds, and director Kevin Thomas manages to emphasise both with style.

"Backdoor Brag"

30 Rock returns to our screens, albeit in a compressed format thanks to dodgy network coverage. Fans of the US comedy series will instantly recognise this exchange between returning stars Jane Krakowski (Jenna) and Jack McBrayer (Kenneth) as they discuss the art of 'backdoor bragging'. Alas, the set becomes far less roomy thanks to a stingy data plan. Verizon, on the other hand, aim to provide optimum telly binging.

"Bad Streaming"

Hang fire on giving your network provider both barrels - this Verizon ad starring cast members of 30 Rock is deliberately made to look like a buffering mess. Jenna and Kenneth's conversation is rudely interrupted by some ugly glitches, while Frank (Judah Friedlander) seems pretty chilled about his trippy streaming state - an attitude which won't be shared by customers looking for the kind of stable connection Verizon claim to provide.

This pleasing ad for U.S. communications giant Verizon celebrates the bond between motorists and their four-wheeled pride and joys. Whether a car reflects the owner's personality, lifestyle, or career, Verizon wants to ensure it's a smart one too thanks to its Hum technology. The ad doesn't offer a clue what the advertised product actually does, but its personable imagery portrays the company as being on the side of car owners of all varieties.

US actor James Franco has acquired a reputation as something of an omniscient renaissance man in recent years so he's the perfect choice for this piece of loveliness directed by Danny Kleinman. There's no 'Nigel Pargetter scream' when he loses his footing atop a high rise after heroically trying to retrieve a scarf for a young woman.

A thoroughly confusing but very entertaining spot for Motorola's Droid phone. We dread to think what the budget must have been, not least because it has a dead Ed Norton coming back to life and reliving the previous, extremely eventful 48 hours leading up to his demise. It seems to suggest that he survives this long because of the durability of his mobile phone's battery... but we're never quite sure why.

A man discovers a secret portal to an underground base where experiments are being conducted to combine one thing that DAVID doesn't understand with another. Visually impressive and expensive... let's hope it means something to its target audience.

The extent to which the advertised device captures the attention is illustrated by a sequence which shows a young man being trapped inside a futuristic console as soon as he touches it in this commercial for the US.

A man attaches a cable to a lightning conductor in a storm so he can use the discharge from a strike to create a superfast internet dongle. You have to love the super reading 'do not attempt' at the start of the ad. This was necessary because...?

A man discovers a 4G dongle in a tree trunk that's been hit by lightning in this American ad for Verizon. He immediately plugs it into his laptop and discovers download speeds he could only imagine in his dreams.

An impressive sequence of special effects are used to advertise some kind of computer game in this American commercial directed by Noam Murro. It looks as though the protagonists are on another planet but we're guessing it's the bit of desert used for the moon landings.

"What in the world is that?" asks a cowboy towards the end of this US commercial and it's a good question. Cargo released from a stealth bomber lands in various locations causing a dramatic impact but no-one has the faintest idea what it could mean.

This US ad demonstrates that we have a lot to learn from our American cousins when it comes to making aggressive comparative advertising. In the toy graveyard they wonder why an AT&T phone has arrived before discovering it's because of poor 3G coverage.
