UK Opticians

You never know when a Boots optician is going to appear at your workplace, eh? This chirpy woman 'surprises' a make-up artist with a demonstration of the retailer's eyewear range. Despite Victoria's initial reservations, she soon finds her ideal pair of glasses. Even if the joviality feels a touch forced, the ad puts spectacle shopping in a positive light.

Boots Opticians return to their idea of replacing talking heads with talking spectacles. As before, this feels like a neat conceit that hasn't quite come off. Having said that, the voices are authentic and the glasses' movement corresponds with the script so it works... it just seems a bit lacklustre and lacking in anything to really grab the attention.

We like the idea of this - a 'talking heads' commercial in which the heads themselves are absent and represented only by the glasses each person is wearing. But it's visually unsatisfying with its stark background and although the voices are convincingly real, they don't half sound dull. Ultimately, it's all a bit grey.

One of the new 'Boots girls' demonstrates remarkable versatility when switching between an inane conversation with a colleague and an important one with her boss. She's aided and abetted in this by a change of eyewear... thus making the case for a spare pair.

Boots manages to steal some of Specsavers's thunder in this amusing ad which uses a series of vision- based misunderstandings to illustrate its claim about the High Street retailer's optometry service. Two little gags and a big one... not bad in just thirty seconds.

More shades of superman as three women change clothes in a photo booth, a lift and behind a sofa to complement the look achieved by popping on their sunglasses. Apparently you can get a pair of prescription sunglasses for free if you buy a normal pair from Boots.

A trio of women slip into their more glamorous glasses for a lunchtime assignation in this fun commercial for the high-street retailer which draws attention to a special offer which enables punters to buy two pairs of glasses for the price of one.

According to this commercial, Boots are so worried about the damage being done to our eyes by UV rays that they are giving us a free pair of prescription sunglasses when we buy ordinary ones from the outlet. Mind you, they are protecting their own interests... we won't need glasses at all if we go blind.

According to this ad, 'two-thirds of us could be missing out on all life has to offer' by which they mean that we do not have sufficiently strong eyewear. Oddly though, in the ad's depiction of myopia, the blurring only affects the central image which is supposed to back up the metaphor but is, er, a bit short-sighted.
