SYLVAIN CHOMET JOINS DIRTY FILMS AND HUSH.

French director Sylvain Chomet has joined the rosters at both Dirty Films and Hush.

Chomet is the seventh director to join Dirty Films since they set up shop near Hackney Downs in 2015, while he's also the latest addition to Hush's expert animation stable. The arrangement means the UK market can look forward to both live-action and animated offerings from Monsieur Chomet.

He's joining two companies in one fell swoop? It's quite simple, really: Dirty Films will look after Chomet for all things live-action and multimedia, while Hush will take care of animation projects.

I see. Now that's all cleared up, why don't you tell us more about the man. I understand he was once nominated for one of those Academy Awards. Make that four Oscar nominations. Those well-versed in the Best Animated Feature category will appreciate Chomet's work over the years, including the 'The Triplets of Belleville' and 'The Illusionist'.

Chomet is a staunch advocate of hand-drawn animation. Doodles won't cut it with this man, which is why his illustrative prowess is in such high demand.

How in demand are we talking here? Well, he collaborated on an episode of The Simpsons - you know, nothing major. Chomet cemented his pop culture cred by directing a special couch gag on the show. His whimsical interpretation has Homer gorging on snails, Lisa mourning the death of a goose with an accordion, and Maggie lodged in Homer's derrière.

Très amusant! Looks lovely, too - it's tough to surprise hardened Simpsons fans, so this must have been a pleasant surprise. Evoking an audience reaction is one of Chomet's specialties. His unnerving commercial for Amnesty International literally hits hard with its tangible depiction of torture. Try watching without wincing.

Bruising, that one. Isn't it just? Chomet brings a heightened quality to this grave subject. It also underlines his ability to produce thoughtful results, whether it's on a film set or in the animation studio.

We always knew Sylvain had a mischievous side, and now we know he is as dirty as the rest of us.

 ”

That'll be why both Dirty Films and Hush have made their move. Let’s hear from the two camps, then. The Dirty Films gang like the cut of Chomet’s jib: "We always knew Sylvain had a mischievous side, and now we know he is as dirty as the rest of us. Welcome aboard, Sylvain!"

Friendly faces await Chomet at Hush’s South Hackney HQ, too. Hush Executive Producers Ru Warner and Lydia Russell know exactly what Chomet can bring to the table, having collaborated with him numerous times over the years.

You can enjoy Sylvain Chomet’s diverse reel at both Dirty Films and Hush's websites. For live-action enquiries, ring Alex Bedford at Dirty on 020 3095 9433. Got an animation project in the offing? Call Hush’s Ru Hunter or Lydia Russell on 020 3637 6969.
