A CULTURE SHOCK AT MOXIE PICTURES.

Exciting times ahead for Moxie Pictures as the company signs the thinking man's thinking man Rob Hughes as their new Head of Culture.

Hughes's arrival signals a new mindset at Moxie HQ. As the company pursues a greater variety of projects, they feel it's time people know how just much they can turn their hand to. This is where Mr Hughes comes in.

Head of Culture, eh? Does that he's going to be taking everyone out to the theatre and such? No, no quite... though Hughes does have plenty of theatre experience. According to Hughes, culture is "everything humans do that monkeys don't". Take that, Oxford English Dictionary!

That sounds like a comprehensive brief. How on earth is he going to fit "everything" into his workload? More specifically, Hughes is interested in broadening Moxie's horizons, as it were. As well as building on the company's advertising expertise, he wants them to embrace more opportunities in movies, TV, streaming services, promos, and short films. In short, nothing's off limits.

Rob has always been somewhat of a visionary within the business... so we decided to bring [him] on board as a secret weapon.

 ”

Hughes is a man with a plan, then? You bet. For starters, he wants to create a more "nourishing" environment for Moxie's talent roster. Hughes wants their directors to enjoy bouncing ideas off one another and "sharing war stories". That way the company stays ahead of the curve on creativity.

What else does Hughes hope to achieve as Head of Culture? As well as strengthening Moxie's already talented roster, he intends to develop original ideas and formats, engage outside investors, and go for world domination (we made the last one up).

All the new exciting stuff that many production companies and creative agencies are experimenting with are already mature at Moxie.

 ”

What does Dawn Laren - Moxie's Managing Director - have to say about his arrival? "Rob has always been somewhat of a visionary within the business, and his peers industry-wide look to him as a taste-maker and for strategic advice, so we decided to bring Rob on board as a secret weapon.

We have charged him with changing our forward-facing perception and exposing us to new sectors within the industry."

And Hughes himself. What are his thoughts on the matter? "In these changing times, all the new exciting stuff that many production companies and creative agencies are experimenting with are already mature at Moxie. On top of that, they have an impressively solid foundation to start playing with."
