BABY TALK.

One of the stars of T K Maxx’s Christmas ad is helping Facebook users drop a big hint about what they want from Santa. The twist? Your gift guru is an eighteen-month-old baby. Well, sort of.

By visiting the retailer’s Facebook page, users can initiate a bizarre Messenger conversation with the ‘Baby Oracle’ - an automated bot configured to gauge your material tastes and unleash a barrage of festive GIFs and memes.

Those who answer the digital sprog’s questions - which are fittingly riddled with spelling mistakes - are rewarded with a personalised video to share with friends and family. Now your loved ones have no excuse for overlooking your love of shiny things or bathroom luxuries.

Talking to a cherubic chat bot is one of the more surreal ways to spend five minutes of your time, but it’s a fun diversion. Wieden + Kennedy’s online plaything encourages further engagement with the brand just as social media users are posting last minute gift ideas.

Straight from the mouths of bot babes.

While this campaign’s intentions are innocent enough, internet bots have received a bad rep lately thanks to scammers and ticket scalpers. However, brands are increasingly interested in the software’s potential. Channel 4’s recent promotional campaign for Humans featured a Facebook chat bot going ‘haywire’. For T K Maxx, it’s child’s play.
