THE CHRISTMAS VERDICT

For our latest podcast, we asked comedians Simon Evans, Alice Frazer and Dan Antopolski to offer their verdict on this year's Christmas commercials.

It's always interesting to hear the perspective of outsiders and - while the conversation veered wildly off-topic at times - the insights into our world proved insightful and, occasionally, inciteful!

As before DAVID REVIEWS is massively indebted to our podcast partners String & Tins for their hard work, brilliant advice and endless supply of tea and biscuits.

It's available on iTunes for the Appleytes among you.

What was their favourite? As you'll hear, Havas's Heathrow commercial won their hearts with its ursine allegory. But, actually, they admitted to being overwhelmed by the aggregate emotional punch of watching one festive tear-jerker after another.

They know what they’re doing, don’t they, those ad makers!

 ”

Simon Evans professed admiration for M&S's though this is - in part - because he's an "M&S kind of guy" while - as a millennial Australian who doesn't own a TV - Alice Frazer was a bit baffled by the whole tradition.

Dan Antopolski feels sophisticated viewers are more inclined to think about production values than purchasing stuff but he - like the others - is a sucker for a seasonal bottom-lip wobbler.

Anyway, it was a lot of fun to record and I hope you enjoy listening. Remember, it's also available on iTunes if that's your preferred delivery mechanism.

Listen out for the next one in January when we'll be discussing the art of the VO... appropriately enough.
