STRANGELOVE IS ALL AROUND GREG HACKETT.

After launching earlier this year, StrangeLove are pleased to announce a new addition to their core roster: intrepid filmmaker Greg Hackett.

Hackett combines meticulous commercial and branded content work with a love of travel, and having caught the industry's attention with films for Sony, Phillips, and Barclays, he's ready to push his craft forward at StrangeLove.

He's rocking the desert director look, eh? How did his directing adventure begin? In a roundabout way, as it happens. As a history student with a knack for research, Hackett started off consulting on scripts to ensure factual and historical accuracy. After all, there are some details you really don't want fudged.

When he crossed paths with a photographer making a documentary on refugees, Hackett realised he fancied telling stories himself - like this bleary-eyed insight into Icelandic fishermen for Phillips.

Wow, that puts my lumpy mattress into perspective. You can tell a lot of care and attention went into this one. It's a quality that features throughout Hackett's reel. The harsh beauty of Iceland's fishing grounds complements Páll Pálsson's compelling narration. It's little wonder the film captured viewers' imaginations, as well as netting a Vimeo Staff Pick and industry acclaim.

I like blurring the boundaries between what's real and what's 'dramatic'.

 ”

Ambitious cinematography and storytelling have helped Hackett become a popular name with brands, too. Whether it's a commercial or a piece of branded content, he enjoys pushing the limits.

He says: "I like blurring the boundaries between what's real and what's 'dramatic'. In my films we capture atmosphere and texture that you'd expect to see in the cinema, but we apply them in journalistic stories."

Interesting. What more can you show us of StrangeLove's new man? One of the many things that got StrangeLove excited about Hackett was this brilliantly executed ad for the Sony Action Cam. Here, a boxer and a drummer's stories intertwine to exhilarating effect. It's another example of his painstaking approach, and we've got a feeling there's plenty more where that came from.
