Championing the underdog, eh? No wonder he's getting representation in the UK. You can see his signature brand of quirky, rueful comedy and focusing on the outsider in this splendid German commercial for Hornbach. Bosch explores and undermines tropes with a deft touch, and the pay off is touching and genuinely unexpected.
Hey, who raided my teenage wardrobe? How did Bosch get started out, then? He was actually working in a toy factory when he began to study film and photography. Funnily enough his job was to turn developers' ideas into workable games, which has surely stood him in good stead working in film.
Bosch then moved on to shooting backgrounds for karaoke videos, writing for TV, and editing documentaries. His work soon became known for moments of surrealism – usually delivered in an understated narrative style which can be seen in this ad for VW featuring a self-driving tree and a very confused trucker.
Wow. No wonder the guy was confused. That's the kind of commercial which demonstrates the unique point of view Bosch has become know for all over Europe and beyond.
The evolution in his work since the early days is clear in this film, in which he presents a serious subject in a humorous light without it being detrimental to the message.
That looks like a DIY nightmare for the ages. It'll be interesting to see what he comes out with next. All we know is - it's bound to be unexpected.
