BBC Radio 3
"Mendelssohn"
40s
19 May 2009
UK Radio Stations

A woman pushing a toddler in the park comes across the red circle which offers a sample from Radio 3's offering. The music is from Mendelssohn and, once again, there is a persuasive suggestion that the radio station can inject a little tranquillity into our lives.

Levi's
"Ice Cream Van Concert"
30s
19 Sep 2005
In DAVID's neighbourhood, the ice cream vans endlessly play the Match Of The Day theme music to lure children from their homes. In Coolsville, USA a young man plays Yankee Doodle Dandy in the style of Jimi Hendrix on an electric guitar but it works just the same.

NSPCC
"Speech Bubbles"
60s
19 Sep 2005
This clever animated ad urges us not to be complacent if we suspect a child is being abused or neglected. By demonstrating situations which any one of us may have witnessed, it effectively reminds us that the safety of the nation's children is the responsibility of each and every one of us.

Sainsbury's
"Try Something Different"
40s
19 Sep 2005
Sainsbury's investment in Jamie Oliver looks increasingly like one of the best advertising decisions of all time as one-time celebrity chef's crusade against the awfulness of food offered in schools has given him the kind of credibility enjoyed by Bob Geldof (before the Irishman madly decided he had Made Poverty History).

Cadbury Dairy Milk
"Zingolo"
60s
19 Sep 2009
Cadbury has opted to flaunt its Fairtrade credentials with this film which shows a giant mask making its way through an African village. The joyous nature of the reaction tells us most everything we need to know about the impact of a policy that is fair on local farmers.

EA Sports
"Eleven"
2 mins
19 Sep 2010
A number of well known footballers including Wayne Rooney, gear up for some play on the advertised device. Apparently, it doesn't matter how many of you there are, you will still make up a team of eleven in the game. You'd have thought Rooney would prefer that game where you get to murder prostitutes just now, wouldn't you?

Cybersmile
"Don't Retaliate"
1 min 45s
19 Sep 2013
One of the most stultifying effects of bullying is the sense of isolation it often creates in the mind of the victim. Teenagers are already inclined to imagine that others are incapable of empathy so how can they expect that anyone will truly understand the misery provoked by intimidating communication? This online film seeks to remind victims of bullying that there are people out there who understand their plight.

VW
"Take On Me"
45s
19 Sep 2013
If you're old enough to remember, this will whisk you back to 1985 from the very first frame. A-ha's iconic song and illustrated video technique act as a brilliant set-up to what in fact is a free maintenance deal on new VWs in the States. Just as speedily as you're plunged into the past, you're yanked back to the here and now... very funny indeed.

Nike
"PlayPinoy"
90s
19 Sep 2014
Nike's new spot pays homage to the deep love the Philippines have for basketball, and does so with great panache. There are rickety, ramshackle courts all over the islands and this 90" ad provides energetic glimpses of a diverse array. The heat, the intensity, the life-and-death emotional investment and sheer joyousness of the players are an enormous pleasure to watch.

Nimble
"Loose Jeans"
40s
19 Sep 2006
She flies like a bird in the sky-ay-oh-ay. A builder finds that his jeans keep sliding off his waist. Whatever could the explanation be? Only when he sees that his wife has secretly been making his sarnies with Nimble bread does he realise the awful truth. And not a hot air balloon anywhere.

Apple iPod
"Bob Dylan"
30s
19 Sep 2006
"The answer, my friend, is blowing in the... er, I mean... arriving in regular instalments in my bank account." Good grief, Bob Dylan in an iPod commercial, whatever next... Fidel Castro in a Hamlet ad? Watching from a balcony as the people storm the Presidential Palace as Bach's Air On A G String... etc?

Galaxy Promises
"Spreading Chocolate"
30s
19 Sep 2006
As a young woman pops lumps of Galaxy into her elegant gob, her whole apartment starts to be covered in molten chocolate in the style of a nightmarish horror film (picture blood instead of chocolate and a slightly more menacing soundtrack and you're seeing this ad the way DAVID does).

Alpen
"Chat Up Response"
30s
19 Sep 2007
A man's cheesy chat-up line is mocked by a woman who gives a full description of Alpen in reply to his enquiry about what she would like for breakfast. She prefers the cool fellow stood behind and it is he whom she scarily offers a 'nut crunch' the next morning.

Lucozade Alert
"Welcome To The Brain"
30s
19 Sep 2007
We assume there's a considerable quantity of stimulant in this new Lucozade variant. Indeed by the looks of things they may have eschewed the appeal of caffeine in favour of amphetamines. A neat illustration of what goes on inside the head of someone who has downed some of the new drink.

Boots Opticians
"Blurred"
30s
19 Sep 2007
According to this ad, 'two-thirds of us could be missing out on all life has to offer' by which they mean that we do not have sufficiently strong eyewear. Oddly though, in the ad's depiction of myopia, the blurring only affects the central image which is supposed to back up the metaphor but is, er, a bit short-sighted.

B & Q
"Let's Do It"
40s
19 Sep 2007
A decent B & Q ad. Ye gads, we think there's something about this in the Book of Revelations, so if you see four horsemen riding down your street and looking a little apocalyptic then it may be time to make like a contortionist and kiss your derrière au revoir. Various prettily-filmed scenes of different folks decorating.

Barratt
"Bricks"
40s
19 Sep 2007
Barratt's homes are 'built around you' according to this ad. This is a clever little pun which is neatly illustrated by people providing their ideas in the shape of bricks which Barratt then uses to put together a house. But 'built around you' could also mean a shed load of houses being put up all around yours... which is often the case.

The Sunday Times
"Rip"
30s
19 Sep 2007
A clever conceit here to advertise Style - the Sunday Times's fashion supplement. A woman who is trying on various outfits removes each by ripping them off as if they are made of paper. This both attention-grabbing and apposite because it reminds us that the styles have come from a newspaper.

Ford Fiesta
"Television Montage"
60s
19 Sep 2008
An impressively attention-grabbing piece for Ford has a number of televisions coming together and moving down the street. It has the slightly flawed movement of stop frame animation... whatever has been used looks remarkably good but might have been better still if the car itself had stayed on the screens.

Orange
"Cloud"
60s
19 Sep 2008
Impressively, each of the ads in this series so far has had a distinctive twist... this one introduces to a group of young London friends whose energy is depicted as a moving ball of cloud. The girls explain how they are taking advantage of an Orange offer which enables them to get hold of gig tickets.

Coca Cola
"Zero Zero Seven"
30s
19 Sep 2008
The build up to Quantum of Solace - the new James Bond movie - begins with this piece which is clearly designed to provoke memories of the film series' iconic opening title sequences. From the sounds of things, they couldn't gain use of the music... hence the use of something approaching a parody of the original.

Wrigley's Extra
"Cake Trolley"
30s
19 Sep 2008
Where are these offices where they have such exotic snacks being wheeled around to tempt their employees into obesity? A woman imagines resisting temptation by smashing the calorie-laden treats before it occurs to her that she could chew gum instead. An odd proposition indeed.

Beatthatquote.com
"No Blubbering"
30s
19 Sep 2008
Ever wondered what goes on in a call centre? Well, according to this ad for the advertised price comparison site, they achieve their goals by torturing their employees with wax strips. Odd as it is to say it... this commercial will probably succeed in letting the market know there's a new kid on the block.

BBC Radio 2
"Celebrity DJs"
40s
19 Sep 2008
Various Radio 2 DJs are seen clowning around in the studio during the broadcast of their programmes. The outcome is a terrifically engaging compilation which manages to convey the passion felt for the music by those who put it on the air as well emphasising the station's high quota of celebrity DJs.

Royal Bank Of Scotland
"Scott McGinlay"
60s
19 Sep 2009
Scottish vet, Scott McGinlay, explains what the Royal Bank of Scotland means to him in this attractively-filmed commercial. Mention is made of the banking industry's recent travails but McGinaly still trusts them. The fool.

This Morning
"This Morning, I..."
60s
19 Sep 2009
Various contributors to ITV's flagship daytime TV programme explain what they've done "this morning". This has been charmingly filmed with a nice energy and it's bound to appeal to the target audience... lapsed viewers as well as the regulars.
