There's a neat demonstration of BT's ability to keep you online around the house in this ad featuring a little girl and her grandfather using Skype (or similar) to stay in touch. She's showing off her budgie but seems to have lost the little fella until fate lends a hand and it returns to her. Not BT's flashiest film of the year but impressive in its own way.

"Fran and Tyrone"

7 Jul 2017
Another film in the feelgood BT series 'moments' has CEO Fran thanking her former mentor Tyrone for the faith he had in her when she was a teenager; taking her under his wing and employing her as a youth worker. He encouraged her to use her sporting talents for good, and in 2016 she won the Prince’s Trust Young Achiever Award 2016.

BT
"Katie and Jenny"

7 Jul 2017
BT has created a series of online videos in which various people thank someone who has had a pivotal influence on their career. In this one, midwife Katie explains to an emotional Jenny how the latter changed her life and made her who she is today. It's movingly heartfelt, although it's not until we've visited the BT site that we discover Jenny is Katie's former midwifery tutor.

A portentous VO sets the tone for this spot, in which BT announces the arrival of US television powerhouse AMC to our screens. Astutely, it uses clips from critically-acclaimed cult series Mad Men and Breaking Bad (among others) to whip up excitement about Fear The Walking Dead (a spin-off prequel to the revered programme of a similar name) which we will soon be able to see exclusively through BT TV.

BT's new campaign starring Ewen McGregor was launched over the weekend with back-to-back showings of the first two commercials. McGregor plays himself as a group of comedy advertising folk (including Bluestone 42's Katie Lyons) try to work out the best way to exploit his celebrity for the BT cause.

Once again BT's comedy soap opera focuses on the gauche young man with no social skills - played with aplomb by rising talent Daniel Rigby. Here, he keeps annoying his friends while they're watching stuff on the telly box... luckily the advertised service provides them with plenty of alternatives.

After running their Hallowe'en ad until the middle of December, BT needed to pull something out of the bag for their next ad and they've done it... Samantha Bond is introduced as Simon's mother. The veteran actress has proved her comedy worth as Auntie Angela in Outnumbered and she should be able to enliven proceedings.

"Olympics"

28 Aug 2012
BT's Olympics ad has been augmented with pieces of action from the actual Games. All of the companies who paid to be among the corporate sponsors must be feeling pretty pleased with themselves as they vicariously bask in the glory of Britain's most successful performance since 1908.

"Bringing Us All Together"

This grandiose commercial for BT suggests that the people watching at home are getting as much from the Olympics as those at the stadium. They're not. We can't help feeling that they must have intended for this to run this slightly earlier in the month... halfway through the Olympics seems a tad late.

It's a shame the punchline is a bit swallowed as it's quite funny but otherwise it's business as usual for the BT trio. Having left his dull mum and step-dad to revive their flagging TV careers, little Joe is living the high life because compared with his geeky flatmate he looks like a fine piece of totty and clearly has a much better chance with the young Spanish women who are visiting London for the Olympics.

BT
"Synchronised Swimming"

5 Jun 2012
Surely BT are only the U.K.'s most popular broadband because of the number of people who can't be bothered to change supplier. This animated commercial featuring three synchronised swimmers drawing attention to a number of the advertised service's features is arguably the lowest level of Olympic themed advertising yet.

In the latest in the new series of ads for BT, the geeky flatmate is faced with a barrage of technical questions from his mother. She, it seems, has ventured into the uncertain world of the internet and is using him as a free helpline. It's easily the best ad in this new series as it painlessly draws attention to the breadth of BT's offer.

BT
"Skiing"

You have to wonder whether this was properly thought through. Does the animated skier represent a customer who's decided to take advantage of the advertised offer? If so, isn't it a bit unfortunate that he seems to be having such a torrid time?... an apt metaphor but not one that you'd imagine BT would want to propagate.

BT
"What You Really Wanted"

This bright and breezy commercial reveals to the people of Northern Ireland that the gifts they have bought for their friends and family are a pile of steaming crap. In fact, all that anybody really wants is fast broadband provided by BT.

BT
"Light Stream"

1 Aug 2011
Streams of light represent the various things you can do online in this ad focusing on BT's broadband offer. There's only a peripheral role for Jane (Esther Hall) and none at all for Adam (Kris Marshall)... which seems surprising after such an effort was made to stoke up interest in their 'wedding'.

BT
"Buoy"
30s
18 Jul 2011
This animated film has a soundtrack designed to remind the audience of the Beach Boys but not in a fashion that would encourage the iconic 60s band to contact their legal representatives. Other than that there's a lot of unpersuasive chundering about specific deals.

BT
"Competing Signals"
40s
3 Jun 2011
This ad posits the perfectly plausible idea that the airwaves are over-loaded with data. Plausible and yet... are they? And even if they are, what's so magical about BT's router that it can find a way around this problem? An attractively put together piece of nonsense.

BT
"The Wedding"

Adam and Jane tie the knot in the latest ad in the ongoing series for BT. As we've pointed out on many occasions, this soap opera hasn't caught the public's imagination in the way its authors clearly hoped it would but this doesn't seem to have diminished their ambition for it and they continue to broadcast each instalment in a fashion that suggests we're on the edges of our seats.

BT is associating itself with Springwatch in a bid to drum up business but as anyone who's experienced the Kafkaesque nightmare of their customer services can tell you, it's Crimewatch not Springwatch that should be invoked. Here, binoculars are used to enliven the metaphor.

"Jane Needs Your Help"

Jane (Esther Hall) Is having trouble choosing a wedding dress; the car to take her to the registry office and a song for her first dance once she's married Adam, the benign lump who's fathered her new child. Help her choose or, if you prefer, don't.

This is a remarkably good adaptation of a famous Johnny Cash song with Irish place names used to substitute the American names in the original. It's used to suggest the universal popularity of BT in Northern Ireland and it's quite neat.

BT
"The BT Wedding"

2 Mar 2011
You'd think that after the last time BT sought the help of viewers in determining what happens next, they'd be shy of repeating the exercise but that's exactly what they've done in this ad which has Jane (Esther Hall) speaking to her unborn baby shortly before going into labour.

BT
"Do More Online"

12 Feb 2011
The usual suspects have been duplicated in this ad to illustrate the multi-tasking capability of the advertised broadband service. Strangely, this particular device is a bit counter-productive as it inadvertently reminds us that we can only do one thing at a time and manages to suggest that BT Infinity may be more than we require.

BT
"Teddy Bear"
30s
31 Jan 2011
Presumably, this is a pre-watershed version of the most recent BT ad which had Adam leafing through an issue of The Joy Of Sex at the end. It's much more wholesome to have the poor sap holding a teddy bear in winsome fashion.

Gloomy Adam (Kris Marshall) is in the garage and contemplating the state of his life in this neat set piece but before he can start up the and welcome the sweet release provided by the ingestion of carbon monoxide, Jane (Esther Hall) intervenes.
