French Connection
"Signs of Attraction"
30s
6 May 2014
UK Fashion Labels

As Mausi's Body Language plays, a gaggle of gals and guys loosely act out the signs of attraction which reveal if someone fancies you or not in this ad for French Connection. Fast edits and a plain background make it striking to watch; full of energy and verve. Plus it makes the clothes look good into the bargain. Which is always a bonus.

Funnily enough it's tenuous promotional sponsorships like this that leave a nasty taste in your mouth.

French Connection
"I Am The Magic Dress"
40s
29 Sep 2011
Another enigmatically cool piece for French Connection. It focuses upon a 'Magic Dress', using a series of images drawn from the vernacular of the illusionist to generate a surreal feel.

French Connection
"I Am The Suit"
40s
13 Sep 2011
French Connection continue to dazzle us with advertising that looks as though it's emerged from the posthumous dreams of Salvador Dali. Some viewers may be alienated by the surrealism but it's such a good fit for the music that it seems likely to appeal to the target audience.

French Connection
"French Connection A/W 2011 Trailer"
60s
2 Aug 2011
An intriguing montage directed and photographed by Leila and Damien de Blinkk designed to advertise a project which promises to celebrate "the power of clothes, each film is stylishly told from the point of view of a hero garment."

French Connection
"Pole"
35s
7 Feb 2011
The man last seen using a bucket to style his hair climbs a pole while surrounded by cheering villagers. The essential maleness of this enterprise is underlined by the ambiguous rewards of an electric shock at its summit. But does it ever look like he's really climbing the pole?

French Connection
"Fire Extinguishers"
20s
7 Feb 2011
Unlike the other ads in this series, this doesn't quite come off. A woman holding a pair of fire extinguishers with an inexplicable volume of compressed C02 (or whatever they contain) uses them in a vaguely decorative way before propelling herself across the screen. If this was an ad for fire extinguishers, it wouldn't be allowed.

French Connection
"Bucket"
20s
7 Feb 2011
A man with long hair uses a bucket to shorten his locks in this ad for French Connection which reinforces a stereotype about the cavalier approach taken by men when it comes to personal grooming. Well, sort of. In fact, the fellow in question has a distinctive style both before and after his improvised restyling but this is a fashion brand so what do you expect?

French Connection
"Piano"
50s
7 Feb 2011
This beguiling film features a woman who sits atop a piano and presses the keys with the business end of her stilettos. In defiance of a rule about pets, she has her dog with her and it's obvious to anyone with a smidgeon of nous that "she's the kind of girl you want so much it makes you sorry, still you don't regret a single day".

French Connection
"The Woman"
40s
12 Aug 2010
More charming Gallic nonsense forming a French connection for French Connection. This retailer's advertising continues to permit it to successfully straddle the narrow ground between high street convenience and fashion credibility.

French Connection
"The Man"
40s
12 Aug 2010
A neat slice of nonsense for the fashion label introduces us to a man with sensibilities so epically Gallic that you expect him to be riding a bicycle with onions around his neck. French Connection indeed.

French Connection
"The Man"
60s
19 Mar 2010
One of a pair of films for French Connection which dwell on the mystery of attractiveness. A bearded man is described in enigmatic terms by a man speaking with a heavy French accent. What's it all about? Just a way of excusing the other ad, if you ask us.

French Connection
"The Woman"
60s
19 Mar 2010
One of a pair of films for French Connection which dwell on the mystery of attractiveness. In this ad, a sulky looking woman is examined by a rather voyeuristic camera as a man with a heavy French accent speaks enigmatically about her.

French Connection
"Fashion Vs Style"
60s
13 Feb 2006
Kill Bill springs immediately to mind as two women square up to one another and have a fierce physical battle. They represent Fashion and Style and presumably French Connection is where the two can be aligned. Or perhaps it's all just an excuse for a homo-erotic fantasy ending in a snog. Yes, that's it.
