Samsung continue their 'Unboxing' campaign with this energetic ad for their Galaxy S8 model (aka the one that doesn't explode). We see videos punch, kick, and drum their way out of the phone, smashing off the old design in pieces and revealing the new, sleeker 'infinity display' beneath. Overall, it showcases the aesthetic differences of the new model in a kinetic way.

This film for Samsung takes us inside the dramatic show of lights and colours on London landmarks which marked the launch of the latest Galaxy phone. We watch an audience cheer as they watch the immersive light show complete with very dramatic background music... though - from the looks of things - you, kind of, had to be there..

"This is a Smartphone"

29 Mar 2017
Samsung have worked hard to regain consumer trust over recent months, and this peppy commercial now encourages us to rethink how we perceive smartphones. Thus, from the literal ashes of the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 comes the new S8 smartphone. Now if they can just stop their stores from catching fire as well...

This ad for Samsung Galaxy 7's 360 and virtual reality recording gear demonstrates what a dad will do to keep his daughter happy... and the script so determined to avoid mentioning fire that it doesn't even call the boyband members hot. We're not sure he'd get past gig security with a Samsung right now, but it's a sweet ad that tries to claw back some appeal to the beleaguered brand.

Now that the Olympics are out of the way, Samsung get back to the day job of making their latest smartphone - the Galaxy Note7 - appear even smarter than the last. Thanks to some nifty visual flourishes and a backing track on the 'general hype' setting, the advertised device's range of eye-catching (and eye-scanning) features are rendered with enough polish to get the Android faithful going.

"Christoph Waltz"

6 Aug 2016
Christoph Waltz may be known for bringing a sense of continental refinement to his Hollywood roles, but this fun ad for the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 sees the two-time Oscar winner pondering what it is to be an American. One journey through American society and several costume changes later, Waltz decides he's quite taken with the Yankee lifestyle - one aided by the advertised smartphone, of course.

"Snail"

Samsung return to their partnership with the World Surf League in this gripping commercial starring a snail. Yes, you read us right - and you'll never look at a mollusc on the pavement the same way again. A narrator with the kind of voice that has a lot of stories in it relates the life and times of a humble snail as it aims to conquer its horizontal Everest: crossing the road in one piece. Inconsequential? Well, what are you doing?

Ever look at your watch and wish you could add just one more minute - heck, even a second - on? After all, it's all you would need to complete the day's to-do list... but what if said to-do list was on your phone and the battery's dead? Time to panic? Not so with the Samsung Galaxy S7 as demonstrated in this energetic commercial directed by Rogue's Stacy Wall.

A young man fears the worst when the young woman he fancies drives away without giving him her phone number. Sure, she has his but what are the chances she's going to call? In a highly relatable sequence, he constantly checks his phone, has his hopes raised when someone else with a similar ringtone receives a call and basically turns into a hopeful nervous wreck.

While this ad lacks the pizzazz of Samsung's most recent output, the brand have a knack for making their tech look presentable without over-exerting themselves. The film largely focuses on the Galaxy S7's suitability for happy snapping before demonstrating the phone can withstand a downpour... though the same can't be said for its owner.

"Why?"

1 Mar 2016
Launched during Sunday's Academy Awards broadcast, this amusing ad for the Samsung Galaxy S7 is suitably heavy on the star power while also letting its quirky supporting cast shine. This eclectic bunch has a lot of queries about the current state of mobile technology, enough to push even the most enthusiastic sales assistant to the brink.

Irish actor Kristian Nairn reprises his role in Game of Thrones in this direct assault on Apple by Samsung. Nairn wonders why they go to so much trouble if people are going to watch on devices with such poor resolution. The in-joke for fans of the series is that Nairn's character is almost completely silent - hence the glance to the side when he mentions all the lines he has to learn -making it quite funny to hear him eloquently berating the viewers for their poor choice of tablet.

While we doubt Samsung's meditations on beauty will find their way into philosophy lectures any time soon, it proves to be a serviceable method of promoting the Galaxy S6's camera. This snap happy ad should appeal to those always looking to capture the moments that will make a neat addition to their social media gallery, only now with a little more clarity.

"Love Note"

10 Nov 2015
This lovely commercial for Samsung reminds us of the mechanisms we used to use to send messages of love. It uses them to create a very modern message while drawing our attention to the advertised phone's ability to help us create our own personalised message (although the 'personalised' aspect of a templated service always seems arguable!).

After their ignominious efforts at this year's Rugby World Cup, England might as well give Mr Whitehall a call-up ahead of their final game. After all, it would be a fitting climax to this series of videos showing the comedian embracing the rough and tumble of the sport... while going easy on both the rough and the tumble. Lesson Five sees Jack Whitehall get to grips with the line-out.

"Lesson Two: Style"

Jack Whitehall makes another attempt to understand rugby culture as he discusses style with the greats. Would MJ (Martin Johnson) - sarcastically "the face of sexy rugby himself" - ever have considered sporting a man bun, or a little diamante? Whitehall's puny metrosexual ways cut no ice with the players and he's told not to do it again when he gives MJ a friendly pat on the bum.

Another amusing snippet from Jack Whitehall's England training session sees the comedian stake his claim as the fastest player on the field. Despite his admirable confidence, Jason Robinson et al show he's not quite the speed demon he thinks he is. Best get that hamstring looked at, Jack... or whatever it is you've pulled.

To say Jack Whitehall is up for learning the rules of rugby might be a bit of stretch, but Samsung get good value from the comedian and various England greats. Today's lesson revolves around the maul, even if Jack is perfectly happy to keep things non-contact. It's enjoyable stuff, though the clash between "the freight train" and "the Fun Bus" is rather one-sided.

Even the likes of Rita Ora can encounter a flat phone battery from time to time. Luckily, the Samsung Galaxy S6's wireless charging technology means she can bring her phone back to life while warbling away in a recording studio. She gets more attention than the advertised product, but those already enthralled by the phone's design won't require the extra persuasion.

Man of the moment James Corden plays both roles in this amusing ad for Samsung. Like Ricky Gervais, James Corden has the ability to deliver the same performance over and over again and somehow get away with it. That sounds like criticism but it's really not... it's a genuinely impressive trick and gives predictable material a lift.

"This is not a screen," informs the VO as we're taken through a series of scenarios in which the Galaxy plays the lead role. It's a portable cinema, it's easy to read in the dark, it's a notebook you can share with your friends. While vaguely annoying, it's still a solid ad that we imagine will appeal to the age group it features.

A stylish ad for the Galaxy Note 4 sees a wife and mum organising Christmas with the help of her phone. It's soft-paced and gentle; she's no smug control freak which she easily could have been portrayed as. Instead, we see her secretly snapping wish lists, buying last minute pressies and even ordering a gift to herself because... well, it's Christmas, innit.
