UK Chocolate

This isn't just a touch-screen phone, you know. It's a camera, a movie player, a light in the dark, a window. Pretty much any other phone that isn't just a phone, then. Except you can scribble notes on this one. Hang on - if that's its USP, why doesn't the ad concentrate on it and tell us the benefits of being able to scrawl something indecipherable on the screen instead of tidily typing? Oh.

27 Feb 2014
A young woman is reading her e-book over a coffee in a quiet, elegant bar when a loud and unruly group tumble in; disrupting the calm with their tipsy laughter. It must be a good book (and, moreover, we learn it came free with a bar of Galaxy) because on behalf of the other people who were enjoying the tranquillity she finds a way to make the hoorays leave and thus restores harmony to the surroundings.

Galaxy
"Audrey Hepburn"
60s
24 Feb 2013
Audrey Hepburn is the star of a new commercial for Galaxy set on Italy's Amalfi coast. The long-dead Hollywood actress is aboard a bus that's broken down - but isn't stranded for long as an attractive young man in a sports car finds himself appointed as her chauffeur after she's inspired by a bite of the advertised chocolate.

"Moments"

30 Jan 2012
Animation forms on a satin throw lying across the back of a chaise longue as a woman considers the prizes she might win if she buys the advertised chocolate. It's decoratively done and clearly designed to exude luxury but it's a little rushed and doesn't really hit the mark.

Galaxy
"Silky Smooth"

7 Jun 2010
This highly product-oriented commercial is made up of a close-up of the chocolate itself (or, in all probability, an animated simulation), a little bit of piano music and a longing voice-over. It doesn't add up to a great deal of anything.

Galaxy
"Frog"
30s
2 Mar 2010
A woman is delighted to discover a frog in her bedroom as she eats some of the advertised chocolate. We thought she'd plant a smacker on the little fella... you know, just in case, but it's actually there to illustrate Galaxy involvement with the Rainforest Alliance.

Galaxy
"Sex And The City"
30s
19 May 2008
In the style of Sarah Jessica Parker's narration of Sex & The City, a woman describes her newly found perfect relationship... with a bar of chocolate. Galaxy chocolate, to be precise, for that's what is being advertised here with specific mention of a tie in with the forthcoming movie.

Galaxy
"What Dreams Are Made Of"
30s
22 Apr 2008
A woman sat outside a café enoying some Galaxy chocolate considers how much better life would be if the city were full of people on horses instead of people in cars. Her fantasy is fleshed out via a dream sequence which shows urbanites on horseback. Each to their own.

Galaxy
"Falling In Love"
30s
24 Sep 2007
Yet another chocolate ad which manages to suggest the brown sticky stuff is equivalent to or better than a relationship for a woman. In this one, we are asked if we remember what it is like to fall in love before it becomes clear that object of the woman's desire is the advertised product.

Galaxy
"Book Awards"
50s
30 Mar 2007
Series of sponsorship bumpers for the Book Awards presided over by Richard & Judy which saw literary giants like Steven Gerrard awarded for their ability to talk to a ghost writer for a few hours. A small variety of genres are represented by an attractive woman shoving choccies in her gob.

"British Book Awards"

What a relief... a chocolate bar ad where the product isn't equated with an edible sex toy and contains instead a scene that begs to be noticed as an excerpt from The Great Gatsby is dramatised to advertise a tie-in with the British Book Awards. More please.

Galaxy
"Christmas Gift"
30s
5 Dec 2006
A woman is wrapping Christmas gifts by the fireside, confident that the recipient of the present she has just incarcerated will be pleased with it. She eyes up the Galaxy chocolate bar and, of course, decides it's not for sharing. More evidence that chocolate is being pitched as Soma for women.

Galaxy
"Film Offer"
30s

Galaxy chocolate is promoting the film The Devil Wears Prada and a receptionist looks on with wry amusement as a pair of women behave in the same shallow fashion satirised in the movie before we then see a few brief clips from the film itself.
