German supermarket EDEKA travel one hundred years into the future for their Christmas ad. Not much has changed… well, aside from robots taking over the planet.

As droids patrol the city streets, one breaks formation to investigate an abandoned cinema. Inspired by a festive matinee, the robot hosts its own Christmas do. Despite its best efforts, some things require the human touch.

Evoking Wall-E and A Grand Day Out’s skiing contraption, the likeable protagonist is all inquisitive bleeps and festive cheer. Good table manners, too.

The brand encourage shoppers to welcome all this Christmas - human or otherwise. Technophobes will require more convincing; for everyone else, it’s a lovely piece of work.

If you're aiming for 'over the top' then it's a good idea to go way over the top - as director Isaiah Seret has in this marvellously bombastic film for EDEKA. The narrator is a curious-looking old fellow who recites a poem detailing man's relationship with fire. He walks through a series of eras, speaking approvingly of the way fire is used to char meat.

German supermarket EDEKA caught the imagination in 2015 with their darkly touching Christmas ad about lonely relatives. Now they’re tackling another, erm, weighty subject: obesity. A boy despairs as his family gorges on an unidentified substance that makes gruel look appetising. When he spots a bird flying away, he's inspired to expand his palate.

This controversial German commercial has created quite a buzz in the media and appears to have polarised opinion. In it, an elderly man becomes so disenchanted with his family's habit of avoiding him at Christmas that he decides to bring them altogether for his funeral... only then stepping out of the shadows to surprise with the news that he hasn't actually died.
