Vegetarians rarely get a look-in when it comes to Christmas advertising. However, Lidl insist “humble herbivores” like this bloke can enjoy the big day without consuming a lethal number of Brussel sprouts. Thus, the supermarket promote their meat-free selection. Never has a man looked so excited at the prospect of vegetarian parcels.

Lidl show would-be hosts with the most how it's done this Christmas with their attractive range of desserts. Budding centrepiece show-offs need not develop Bake-Off style showstopper skills - they can get a chocolate sponge with a glitzy lava centre from Lidl for less than four quid. It might not get a Hollywood Handshake, but it'll impress the guests.

Lidl Finland’s Christmas film stars an unexpected house guest. Having presumably stowed away on Santa's sleigh, an elf crash-lands outside this girl's home. Fortunately, she’s an expert host. Despite multiple kitchen raids, her parents remain oblivious to their elven guest… but not for long. Just when it looks like the girl’s place on the naughty list is sealed, her friend repays the favour.

Lidl have eked admirable mileage out of alliteration this Christmas season, and this ad for their range of cheeses continues the trend. We're introduced to the 'Cheeseboard Champion' - a fromage fancier who can get all the gourmet stinky stuff their heart desires from Lidl for less than a fiver. Stilton celebrators rejoice.

Another alliterative ad for Lidl introduces us to a tipple technician ready to show off her cocktail-making skills. With precisely sliced fruit and a liberal amount of ice, she whips up a G&T with Aldi's Hortus gin and presents it for a taste test - earning a definite nod of approval. These festive chunks are fun and functional, each bringing a different product to the fore.

Lidl celebrate alliterative festive archetypes in this entertaining series of ads. We see a Buffet Botherer, a Finger Food Feaster (say that five times fast), and the Mince Pie Maverick at their Christmassy best as they gorge themselves silly on seasonal treats. The performances in Buffet Botherer are particularly great, as a woman commits the sin of double-dipping - much to her host's horror.

Lidl send another dissenting voice on holiday in this ad dedicated to showing the quality of their wine. A woman gets delivered to Saint-Emilion after comparing the plonk to mouthwash, and finds herself put to work picking grapes before she gets to try the wine itself. The inclusion of mobile phone footage gives the campaign an authentic feel.

"Heidi Klum"

Heidi Klum stars in this frantic ad for her latest clothing range - designed for Lidl. Things are colourful and high-energy from the word go, as shoppers strut around the stylised shelves. We're bombarded with prices as the clothes - which don't look particularly flattering - are given closeups. At the end of it, we're pretty relieved to say Auf Widersehen, Heidi.

Lidl take aim at Waitrose in another price-assassinating instalment of their latest campaign. This time they've gone even cheaper than their take down of M&S steak, pointing out that for the price of two sea bass fillets from Posh Supermarket, you can get a full meal from them for less than a fiver. Price comparison may be something of a blunt instrument, but it's wielded with finesse here.

Lidl go toe-to-toe with Mark & Spencer in this enterprising piece of work. Having established that their posh rival sell fillet steak for £12 a pack, Lidl point out that their equivalent is so inexpensive that you can also pick up an array of vegetables to fill the rest of your plate... and still spend less money than you'd be handing over to Mr Marks & Mr Spencer.

Lidl Ireland’s sponsorship of ladies Gaelic football looks to safeguard the sport’s future. This online documentary examines the camaraderie fostered by team sports. These youngsters describe what a team effort means to them - but will they become the next generation? The supermarket hopes more young footballers play the long game.

Lidl show a woman going to extreme lengths to have their new deals to herself in this amusing ad. We see her jump out of bed fully-clothed and rush off to the supermarket, pausing only to alter a sign and send other shoppers in the wrong direction. Vandalism aside, she gets to the shop on time and quickly nabs one of the ever-changing middle aisle deals - celebrating with a triumphant fist-pump.

A series of mums praise Lidl's Toujours nappy range in this brief ad. They appreciate the low price - seeing as their little stinkers go through so many - and also the quality of the product, going so far as to recommend them to others. The babies seem pretty satisfied with their lot too, although they've only recently learned to hold their own heads up so their standards may not be screamingly high.

Lidl vouch for the quality and provenance of their spuds in another cynic-addressing ad. The supermarket continue their fight back against fake news by assuring us that their Jersey Royals are - in fact - definitely from Jersey. This is explained by a bloke who emphasises doing everything by hand to ensure quality. No word on the potatoes' royal lineage, though.

Lidl Ireland kicks off a new documentary-style campaign with a pair of entertaining ads. Taking inspiration from the likes of Gogglebox and First Dates, the campaign by Chemistry uses a 'TrolleyCam' to get up close and personal with the public as they go about their weekly shop. This film - focusing on the Smyth family - perfectly captures the hectic experience of shopping with children.

Another funny film from Lidl Ireland focuses on the O'Connor family's weekly shopping trip. This time we're entertained by the balancing act of trying to stock the cupboards for a meat-eater and a vegan - quite the feat while deprived of caffeine. The awkward pause after Mum suggests a family pack of condoms is a highlight.

Social media user "Ladycrazycat" is stressed out.. and not about her supposedly deranged moggy. No, she's hosting her first Easter lunch and could do with some culinary advice. Luckily, the budget supermarket have enough meat, veg, and desserts to keep her guests satisfied. "Ladycrazycat" will be delighted... if she actually exists, of course.

As the supermarkets bid for our Easter custom, Lidl keep things simple as they showcase their range of seasonal confectionery. We're introduced to a cast of chocolate animals, including Bertie the bunny, Hettie the hen, and Larry the lamb. The VO suggests shoppers may need a bigger basket - hmm, perhaps they could borrow Aldi's bottomless one.

It;s hard to imagine Lidl being advertised in this fashion in the UK and it just goes to show how differently a brand can be perceived in one country as against another. It's a beguiling depiction of a relationship that looks too passionate for its own good... and the impact it has on a woman reflecting on it while picnicking on a high rise roof.

Another mysterious challenge which looks as though it was issued on social media (but almost certainly wasn't) is flatly contradicted by a documentary-style commercial. This time daffodils are in the spotlight because 'Samantha' doesn't think Lidl's look as though they'll last longer than a couple of days. Au contraire, you fictional mischief-maker... they'll last way longer than that.

Lidl have plenty available for romantics (hopeless or otherwise) this Valentine’s Day. So long as your date doesn’t find the receipt, you should be fine.

Lidl continue to prove they can provide literally every meal cheaper than their competitors - this time pizza. They offer the whole meal, including drinks, for less than a branded version. But let's talk about the real issue here: is it right or wrong to eat coleslaw with pizza? This ad raises more questions than it answers...

It seems Lidl has every meal catered for in this campaign; next on the menu is steak and chips. For the price of a Sainsbury’s fillet steak, shoppers can fill the entire plate thanks to Lidl. With rising sales and an increased market share, the supermarket will be especially keen to, erm, chip away at its rivals this year.

Having done packed lunches and fish ‘n’ chips so far, Lidl number crunch a Sunday roast. We're told we could buy a beef joint for £16 from Tesco, but Lidl have a better idea: buy all the meat, veg, and trimmings for the same price. The discount supermarket wants us to know they’re scrutinising their rivals’ price points.

At Lidl, you can get enough food to make fish and chips for four people - including the sauce and mushy peas, of course - for less than the price of four branded fish filets from Asda. This no frills ad gets the point across directly: Lidl is cheap as, well, chips.
