Guinness
"Match Highlight"
15s
5 Oct 2017
Guinness is the highlight of the match in this sleek ad from Rogue Films' resident food expert Charlie Stebbings. We see the stout pour luxuriously into a glass, with a loving attention to detail as the distinctive white bubbles swirl and settle. The upbeat soundtrack creates a carnival vibe, as a final drop of beer takes the form of a football. Tempting stuff.

Guinness
"Compton Cowboys"
90s
18 Sep 2017
The Compton Cowboys are a perfect fit for Guinness's 'made of more' campaign and Henry-Alex Rubin has created a lovely film celebrating the unlikely juxtaposition of urban gangs and equestrianism. But we find ourselves obliged to point out that this bears an uncanny resemblance to a 2016 film examining a similar project in Philadelphia.

Guinness
"Gaelic Athletic Association"
60s
5 Sep 2017
Guinness and sport go together like a cold pint and a comfy chair. This Irish commercial pays tribute to those who volunteer for the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA). Whether it’s fundraising, groundskeeping, or even wet work, these community-minded individuals are the GAA’s lifeblood. As well as lauding the sporting elite, the stout respect those who make grassroots play possible.

Guinness
"Power Cut"
30s
17 Aug 2016
Another punchy Guinness commercial for the African market which plays with light and dark to eye-drawing effect. When the power goes out, bright sparks get to work and make sure the game is back on without delay. The advertised Foreign Extra stout contains a little extra punch percentage-wise than the domestic option, and this ad conveys the difference with a vibrant display of fandom and self-expression.

Guinness
"Ski Resort"
1 min 45s
11 May 2016
The words 'ski resort' and 'equator' are not the most natural of bedfellows, but this stylish spot from Guinness proves that they can nestle comfortably in the same sentence. A group of friends decide to set out in search of a rumoured resort in the unlikely setting of Indonesia and this is their journey, ably assisted by bottles of the black stuff.

"Alive Inside"

30 Mar 2016
Up-and-coming director Kibwe Tavares helms this electric commercial for Guinness Africa Special with nary a pub nor bar in sight. Instead, the film is a restless celebration of what it means to get that heart-rate pounding - and it's not afraid to get in your face about it.

Guinness
"John Hammond"
65s
2 Feb 2016
This piece for Guinness celebrating the music producer and civil rights activist John Hammond for ignoring a ban on black musicians is too cautious by half. The problems Hammond confronted nearly a century ago remain with us, and that makes this appropriation of his advocacy of tolerance feel rather wishy-washy. It looks good but it's a missed opportunity.

Proof that 'shooting the mood reel' isn't always a bad idea, this impressive Korean commercial for Guinness aims to turn the brewer's toe hold in the Far East country into a foot hold. It's fascinating to see how differently the drink is advertised from culture to culture - the contrast between Guinness commercials in Britain, Africa and Korea is quite astounding - this could easily be a promo for a cool EDM act.

Guinness
"Ashwin Willemse"
30s
21 Sep 2015
A suitably worthy companion to Guinness' excellent Gareth Thomas commercial, this ad pays tribute to South Africa wing Ashwin Willemse. Seemingly destined to remain trapped in the gang culture of his hometown, Willemse eventually found his true calling as a Springbok. After the team's recent shock defeat to Japan, South Africa could do with a man of his ability on the field again.

17 Sep 2015
It's always interesting to see how the famous stout is presented in the Pan-African market and this restless ad doesn't disappoint. Bursting with colour, pace, and even some snippets of surrealism, a rowdy night spent watching the football depicts Guinness as the favoured tipple of those always ready and willing to party.

Guinness
"Never Alone"
60s
9 Sep 2015
It speaks volumes for our progress as a society that - ahead of next month's World Cup - Guinness should opt to focus their marketing muscle on Gareth Thomas, the former Welsh rugby player who came out as gay in 2009. The momentousness of this may not be obvious to those who've grown up in a climate of ever increasing acceptance of sexual difference but - for many people - this represents an almost unimaginable shift in attitude.

Guinness
"Gareth Thomas"
3 mins 55s
8 Sep 2015
Guinness's affinity with the game of rugby rings loud and true with this absorbing profile of Wales legend Gareth Thomas. Ahead of the glut of gruelling encounters at this year's rugby World Cup, Thomas shines a light on the battle that took place inside his head while on the field. Every inch of honesty has been coaxed in this online film by collective Tubby Brother and the "made of more" tagline takes on even more value as a result.

Guinness
"Golden Ale"
30s
13 Jul 2015
The creative bods behind the gates of the Guinness brewery add another string to their harp with the launch of their new Golden Ale variant. Once the Guinness alchemists have concocted their new drink, it's then enjoyed in the sun by a group of discerning Dubliners. Gentle and classy, the ad shows the brand are as acquainted with the light as they are with the dark.

Guinness
"Porter"
30s
14 Dec 2014
A classy ad which whets our whistle with the promise of porters whose original recipes go back to the late 18th century. Guinness boffins pore over pages of their brewers' diaries; showing us the stained and fragile paper on which handwritten instructions still sit... waiting for twenty-first century interpretation.

Guinness
"David and Goliath"
65s
20 Nov 2014
This joyous spot is a modern-day tale of David and Goliath. Back in 1978, the Irish team from Munster learned they were going to be playing New Zealand's All Blacks - a giant of a team in the sport whose sheer stature in terms of success could crush their opponents before they'd even stepped on the field. But Munster refused to listen - and as the footage shows, demonstrated that they were made as much of determination as they were of skill.

Guinness
"Sapeurs Documentary"

21 Nov 2014
This longer look at the Brazzaville Sapeurs was directed by Héctor Mediavilla - the photographer who first shone a light on the well-dressed gentlemen of the Congo. It's a terrific companion piece to the TV commercial and hats off to Guinness for commissioning it in the first place... this is a fitting reward for someone whose work was integral to the more prominent strand of this campaign.

Another in the excellent series from Guinness, this particular spot revolves around Bill McClaren - the legendary rugby commentator whose own playing career was cut short by a diagnosis of tuberculosis the day before he was due to play for his country. While that might break lesser men, McClaren merely found the closest thing to sport that he could in those circumstances.

Guinness
"Mind Over Matter"

18 Nov 2014
A very touching spot in the 'Made of More' campaign which features former rugby player Shane Williams. Once told he was "too small" to play the game, he showed what he was made of by becoming one of the best rugby union test try scorers in the world. This is a lovely series, and Williams' evident emotion on the pitch shows just how important the game is to him.

Guinness
"Jonny"

8 Nov 2014
This latest Made of More spot for Guinness focuses on rugby star Jonny Wilkinson, celebrating the qualities of the man himself rather than his sporting abilities. Not just here in the UK, but in Toulon, France, where he won the hearts of the locals during his time there. It's a very moving piece of film. Young and old alike praise him with heartfelt sincerity, staring straight into the camera to ensure we see the depth of their feeling.

Guinness
"Gates"

15 Sep 2014
This is a lovingly-crafted spot for the famous stout; emphasising its heritage via the brewers who have maintained family traditions and continued to work in the business generation after generation. Cillian Murphy's VO has surprising gravitas as he describes the ambition and scale of a company who are only a few hundred years into the 9,000 long year lease that they've taken on their brewery.

Guinness is currently running a campaign in Ireland called Amplify, designed to support up-and-coming music acts by connecting them with new audiences via live pub gigs. This film, narrated by Game of Thrones actor Liam Cunningham, follows bands as they go about their daily slog; setting up their gear, rehearsing, playing. Beautiful and atmospheric.

Guinness
"Made of Black"
1 min 50s
28 Aug 2014
Badass, hi-octane, supercharged - this is nothing if not rammed to the gills with attitude. Made for the Pan-African market, it's a slick paean to a mindset: black's not so much about the skin you're in as what's under your skin when you scratch the surface. Indeed, the spot's sheer polish and verve, fuelled by Kanye's Black Skinhead is impossible to resist... even if you're not a Guinness drinker yourself, you'll salute those who are.

Target market, target market, target market... that's what you have to keep saying to yourself while watching this beautifully crafted piece of schmaltz out of America. Never mind that you - as a Briton - will be waiting for the punchline that doesn't come, the punters at whom this is aimed will be wiping away a tear or saluting or something.

Guinness is in excellent form at the moment, and this true-life tale of sororial sacrifice is a perfect fit for their 'made of more' theme. Unfortunately, the Olympics police have forced its withdrawal because of licensing issues - presumably, a rival drink is "the official porter of the Sochi Games" - but the publicity gained and its availability online will still do a job for the Irish brewer.
