UK Pre-Prepared Meals

Danny Trejo instructs us - with characteristic forcefulness - to ditch dull dinners in this colourful ad. Alliterative instructions aside, we see the whole family practice their patriarch's trademark scowl as they assemble their stand n' stuff tacos just the way they like them. Actual Mexican people would never use the idiot-proof British kits, we're sure, but they look appetising enough here.

Danny Trejo meets Dinky Trejo in this well-shot film for Old El Paso which provides the former with some formidable competition in the taco-making stakes. When the cocky veteran sees his van roll off a cliff into oblivion, he's forced to hitch a ride with his young challenger as they set off on a culinary road trip.

This attractively filmed piece of content follows a couple of British punters on a trip to Mexico where they find out everything you'd want to know about the local food. It cleverly seeds the idea that buying Old El Paso's wares is the best way of enjoying exotic food from the other side of the Atlantic... even if that isn't really true!

Danny Trejo meets his match when he tries to skip the line at his local eatery. Finding that his trademark scowl will get him nowhere, he reproduces the same quality of food at home with Old El Paso's new variant. As ever, the erstwhile Machete comes across as a hard guy with a soft centre when the restaurant boss swallows her pride and wants to join him.

Danny Trejo reprises his role as the menacing patriarch of a Mexican family in this ad which promotes a new variant of Old El Paso's taco shells that look like little boats. That's right, folks, research must have uncovered the startling news that British punters would buy more of the advertised kits if the outcome wasn't so darned messy; hence they've made them twat-proof. FFS.

If this chap looks familiar to you, it may be because you've seen his head sitting on the back of a giant tortoise on the El Paso plains. Fans of Breaking Bad everywhere will appreciate the reference, and Danny Trejo plays his role here with suitable pantomime menace, wielding a cleaver as he cooks for his family.

Is there any point to Mexican food if it isn't spicy? Doesn't that just make it the same anodyne crap that we eat every other night of the week? This ad suggests that mild food doesn't have to be boring in its bid to persuade us to buy a new variant of the advertised food kits which caters to those who don't like the idea of eating spicy food.

Correct us if we're wrong, but we assume that the 'Chilli Chase' depicted in this commercial is entirely fictional. It's all good fun though and would appear to make sense in a country where we roll cheese down hills (when permitted by health and safety concerns).

Old El Paso have overcome one of the key difficulties of making a Taco... that contents slide away from you while you're trying to make it. They have made a variant of the product which you can stand and stuff because it has an upright groove. How these people still feel they are contributing is beyond us.

A boy using the new Old El Paso kit to make himself a Crispy Chicken Fajita is so excited that he forgets his family is watching and begins to dance. Naturally, he's embarrassed when he notices that they are watching but not embarrassed enough to skulk off to his bedroom. Unfortunately.

Shot with a little élan, this commercial enjoys the huge the benefit of not having the adapted version of La Bamba that has plagued this brand's advertising. The customisability of the product is brought to the fore as three people indicate the way they like to put theirs together.

Quite apart from the fact that this is a pretty dismal ad, if you read the small print (and you'll have to be pretty observant to do so) you'll notice that it says: "kit contains smaller tortillas than shown" which makes it pretty deceitful too.

"Zoo"

this ad, which looks as if it has been shot on a home video camera, has a young man telling his sister's boyfriend how he intends to ingratiate himself with the family by cooking Old El Paso for them and then put the boy back in the zoo.

A group of friends sit down to eat the new Fajitas with roasted tomato and pepper spiced with lime, coriander and extra chilli peppers and one woman finds it so much to her liking that she ends up sucking the remaining juice from her friend's fingers.

A Faye Ripley soundalike mocks her husband as he prepares food using Old El Paso. She tells her friend on the phone that she will speak to her tomorrow if she's "still alive". Any sane man would put some razor blades in her food but sadly that is not the case.
