UK Cards

Having long since cut out the archaic task of schlepping to a shop to buy a card for your nearest and dearest, Moonpig have finally solved the problem of physically writing a congratulatory message. The process does rather complicate things - you have to write, photograph, and upload your scribble - but grandmothers across the nation will appreciate the gesture.

With Motherís Day on Sunday 26th March (donít say we didnít give you a heads-up), Moonpig remind us that all mums are magic. These sons and daughters reveal what makes their mums special, whether itís home cooking or an uncanny cuddling instinct. Typical fare, though the online card and gift emporiumís brand of soft-focus sentiment must be working.

Moonpig encourage us to use every nook and cranny when hiding this year's Christmas presents. Whether it's up in the loft or under the bed, anywhere and everywhere's a potential hiding place for the online retailer's range of personalised gifts. So if you notice a loved one anxiously eyeing the linen cupboard over the next few days, you know what's happened.

Moonpig draw attention to their special offer in this festive ad - 10 personalised cards for £12.50. It's perfect for this flame-haired "Head of Cards" who we see posting and hand-delivering his cards before relaxing after a job well done. So if you want to look like you've made a bit more effort with your seasonal greetings than most but can't draw, here's the answer.

This ad from Moonpig does a good job of illustrating why their card delivery service is needed for people with busy lifestyles. The delivery of a long list of card commitments is pacy without being frantic, and the sheer number of birthdays and anniversaries to remember will be familiar to anyone with a big family.

Father's Day is once again upon us and offspring up and down the land will be on the lookout for dad-centric paraphernalia... and with any luck avoiding the same gift as last year. Luckily, Moonpig are brimming with personalised tokens of appreciation ahead of June 19th as this ad demonstrates. Snippets of animation add a whimsical feel to proceedings as various sons and daughters describe what their dads mean to them.

An air of expectancy mixed with ambivalence will descend on the nation as February 14th approaches. Women who place an importance on Valentine's Day will be hoping their other halves have clocked this ad and are making plans to surprise them. On the other hand, when the requisite special-offer roses and card arrive they'll no doubt also feel cheated so little thought has gone into their annual declaration of love.

A moggie who's been sent on a holiday of his own while his human is away gives his guardian the runaround. Arthur appears to vanish as a protest; not to be found under beds or in cupboards or - well, anywhere really. But he turns up just fine, and on return the long-suffering guardian gets an effusive thank-you from Arthur's human via Moonpig. Some very sweet touches in this.

This woman has a number of people in her life deserving of a greetings card, even if it sometimes takes until the last minute to get organised. Thanks to Moonpig's next day delivery option, both sender and receiver won't be disappointed. There's something a little odd about the lead performance, but it's attractively shot and presents the brand as a reliable option.

The online greetings card emporium informs us that it's our personal touch that really helps make a card special. As a mother enjoys a caravan holiday with her brood, nostalgia prompts her to thank her own mum for creating such special memories for her in years gone by. Once the personalised card arrives, all that's left to do is add a nice, handwritten greeting.

We're sure you can find the personalised Mother's Day card of your choice at Moonpig, but do we really need to be reminded with such a sugary ad? Mind you, it's hard to know how to tone it down without straying into the 'if you don't really like your mother but feel duty bound to acknowledge Her Day...' territory.

This spot for online personalised card service Moonpig features the Roberts family as they try and fail and try and fail to take a group snapshot to grace their Christmas cards. They don't succeed, but they do end up with a picture to represent them, and it's a nice way to plant the idea in our heads that we can make our own cards, even if no-one particularly cares.

Santa's hit a wall. No, he hasn't had an accident on his rounds - but it amounts to as much because he can't think of any gifts for his own nearest and dearest. Hurrah, then, for Moonpig - who not only do personalised cards but can recommend a gift to go with each. Now there's just those pesky carol singers to deal with.

This piece of self-knowing spoofery is almost good enough to stop us cringeing at the god-awful jingle. Men walk into a big warehouse and do manly things to remind us that Father's Day is imminent and that there's barely time to order a tacky personalised gift to let your dad know that you remembered.

Advertising is quite easy when there's something new to tell the audience and viewers may be surprised to learn that Moonpig has such a wide range of commodities. And revealing this by showing off the torso of an attractive man seems destined to appeal to the target market.

In this commercial for the online card maker, children are teaching parents about their favourite characters so that the latter can put together gifts featuring them. DAVID is assured by the clever people at Thinkbox that Moonpig's success is an aspirational example of what television advertising can achieve... but he still wants to go after the people who make their commercials with an axe.

An array of photography-based gifts are available from the advertised retailer and they're hoping Father's Day will prompt fledgeling designers to have a crack at making their own cards and products. Why don't any of these companies ever show a card that looks like it's been put together by someone with an eye for design?

Bored office workers are suddenly animated by the realisation that it's mother's day on Sunday. Whoever wrote this ad seems to have the impression that people who work in an office sit around doing nothing all day... how on earth could someone who works in an advertising creative department ever get that idea?

Meg is trying to work out which of her colleagues has sent her a Valentine's card using the advertised service. Plainly, it's someone possessing a tad more imagination than the millions who'll buy one from a shop but a hell of a lot less imagination than someone who'll make their own.

Moonpig are branching into other gift areas according to this ad which retains a jingle that's so annoying that DAVID would rather listen a whole album sung by the 'Go Compare' guy. A gay man appears to come out to one of his colleagues by using a personalised mug in the opening scene... strange but true.

This ad for Moonpig depicts an office romance that starts with a customised card ordered from the advertised service. It's actually rather sweet but it's hard to get past the campaign's signature music (which probably has a great deal to do with this advertising's success but still...)

Another pitch on behalf of the online personalised card making service. If you really lack the imagination and the equipment to make your own cards then it's handy to know that you can exploit Moonpig to introduce a pseudo-personalised element to your Christmas cards.

Moonpig provides wonderful proof of the power of the jingle. No matter what level of visceral hatred it may have inspired in your head, theirs is probably still the first service to which you would turn if you wanted to customise a greetings card on the Internet.

A young man discovers a note in his lunch box which says: "it's my birthday tomorrow". Now, we know what the advertiser wants us to think when he panics but we prefer to think that he's panicking because he made his own lunch box and now realises he's mentally ill.
