UK Bath Additives

The scene: a fashion show. Models slinking up and down the catwalk. Among them is one with a smile that's electrified rather than electrifying... in fact, she's something of a live wire. Not content with strutting her stuff for the journos and designers, she gets positively playful and sends a ripple of consternation through the room. Why? She's responding to the magical effects of Radox...

it's a great way of drawing attention to the idea that this is a form of relaxation that lasts well beyond bath-time. The 'slow release' will apparently have a long-term impact... though it remains for be seen whether it will be as much like a psychotic episode as it appears to be here.

We almost expected Kopparberg's dancing brewery worker to make an appearance in this entertaining Radox commercial, but the spotlight deservedly belongs to this twinkle-toed emo. While her long-suffering parents must have anticipated another day of silence from their black and purple-clad offspring, the protagonist emerges from her bedroom with a considerable spring in her step.

This is a companion ad to the Radox spot aimed at women, and is just as mystifying. A chap who looks as if his name currently escapes him stands in a multi-hued shower room with water cascading down him. The shower gel range has fragrances "inspired by nature's finest ingredients" (who gets to decide that, really?) and which apparently have restored him to wakefulness.

A green-hued figure huddles naked under cascading water, turning purple as the VO gravely announces that "Radox transforms your mood". Er, excuse us - isn't that the job of antidepressants or alcohol? What can a bit of pink grapefruit bring to the party? Where's the uplifting stuff we're being promised? Whatever we want to feel, we're not going to feel it with Radox, evidently.

This series of five films for Radox are part of an initiative that created an interactive experience for Facebook users. Anyone who remembers the short-lived craze for dancing plastic flowers in the 1980s may suffer a frisson of embarrassment on behalf of a whole generation as they watch this... what were we thinking?

A smart piece of animation is used to illustrate the idea that the advertised product will bring colour and vibrancy into your life. The outline of a woman moves into the shower and reaches for the Radox and as soon as she's got hold of it, she's transformed into a rainbow of flowers.

A young man tries to sneak off for a shower but his girlfriend has so many bottles around on the edge of her bath that it's like playing Jenga and he provokes an enormous collapse. We don't ever recall seeing a joke about this feminine habit before... top stuff.

This ad is fronted by a fictitious Bollywood star called Abhi Mumtaz. He explains that Radox have developed a product which enables men to match the tricks of women when it comes to pharmaceutical self-improvement... it's not clear what that's going to do for he's hairy back though.

An amusing spoof of an ad for a fruit smoothie has a female voiceover appearing to misunderstand the nature of the product. Don't know about you but they had us at "bum cheeks"... a nice piece of work in a sector that uses humour too rarely.

A woman seeks shelter in an antique clock shop where it dawns on her that's "it's quarter to you" and she should be in a Radox bath. A good deal of care and attention has gone into the filming but the script is clunky and 'be selfish' is several steps too strong for this idea.

The darkly-dressed characters from the earlier ad return to individually show off the variants of the new products. The bottles seem to glow in the dark so we hope they don't contain anything radio-active... mind you, if the ad boasted that a product contained Polonium 210, we'd probably think that was a good thing.

A number of women clad in black are against a black background to illustrate how Radox's deodorant will not leave white marks on your black clothes. This is obviously a big issue for women as an ad making this claim is recycled for one product or another on an annual basis.

A neat special effect here as a woman in a park is faced with a large soapy bubble which bursts over her face releasing an infeasible amount of water over her which then splashes across her horizontally.

People in their bathrooms wonder aloud how Radox manage to turn ingredients like coriander into relaxing shower gels. This is a bit like wondering how the people at Walkers manage to create crisps from cheese and onions as the relationship between the product and its stated contents is tenuous... at best.

Imaginative sponsorship films for The Royal... ITV's incumbent programme in the Sunday evening nostalgia slot... shows medics recommending Radox products for patients who are stressed. DAVID likes the rubber duck tie-in.

A collection of people begin singing 'I am what I am' as they get ready to pep themselves in a shower with a bit of help from Radox. Among them is a young woman who we have a strange feeling we'll be hearing more from... possible becoming a popular executive producer and one day becoming pregnant with twins.
