UK Department Stores

Another eccentric VO for Clas Ohlson as they continue to assert their Scandinavianness through this aspect alone. This time Not-IKEA promise to not leave us in the dark as they show off their extensive lighting range, which includes everything from bike lights to lamps to head torches, and most importantly fuses.

Sweden's other well-known chain return to remind us of their extensive range of products. Usual spokesman Manfred must be off wowing a customer with his accent, so his equally chipper colleague is on hand to show off the retailer's selection of household and DIY essentials. Each shot has a new prop or two for her to pick up, and it's a neat device for selling the brand's approach to practicality.

Clas Ohlson's salesman extraordinaire is once again in his element as he aims to brighten the nation's Christmas. Thanks to the Swedish retailer's comprehensive range of fairy lights, shoppers are spoilt for choice - and "net light!" Zippy editing and Manfred's indomitable manner help give these ads a lovely eccentric feel without ever downplaying the store's practical benefits.

The salesman who could out-Swede the Swedish Chef himself returns to promote Clas Ohlson's festive deals in typically amiable fashion. In fact, Manfred is so excited about the retailer's audio equipment that he wields a Bluetooth speaker tower like a party animal. Even if customers aren't lucky enough to be served by the man, at least they can enjoy "beautiful bass" for less this Christmas.

The Scandinavian protagonist in this commercial for Clas Ohlson has such a thick accent that his performance is rendered comical by it. The weirdness is underlined by shots of his colleagues enjoying "modern dance music" in a fashion which demonstrates that enthusiasm isn't much of a substitute for grace when it comes to movement.

The Swedish hardware retailer pick a typically straightforward method of promoting their range of useful summer essentials. Against a baby blue background, products simply perform a gentle hop to the music as their tempting prices appear alongside. Nothing ground-breaking, but customers will be drawn to the range of holiday-friendly "Did you pack the... " items.

A man is struggling to put together some decking in front of his bewildered daughter in this amusing ad for Clas Ohlson when a blue button pops up in his tool box. Pressing it raises assistance from the advertised retailer in the form of an enigmatic handyman who provides a battery-operated alternative to the manual screwdriver he has in his hand.

"Clas Ohlson - useful shop." That has to be one of our favourite straplines of recent times. No messing about; practical in the extreme; who needs a definite article when you've got the words 'useful' and 'shop'? Besides, the brand is Swedish, so however you look at it, it's inherently stylish - it doesn't need to bother with a clever sign-off too.

A tour through the ages is used to persuade us that we ought to be buying stuff from the advertised retailer. How new is this company? We may be woefully ignorant at DAVID HQ* but we've never heard of them... has anyone ever visited one of their stores? What are they like?

* Stop sniggering.
